On Monday, January 4, 2016 around 8PM my friend went to Happy Wok at 1742 N. Harlem Ave. Elmwood Park, IL 60707 to buy some wonton soup. Instead of the 6 wontons that come with it, she wanted 12 wontons. "Oh, you want two wonton soups," said the server. "No I want one wonton soup with 12 wontons."
The server gets the manager, and my friend asks, "Can't you just put the wontons into one soup -- I don't even want the liquid from the second soup." Manager's response: "We can't do that. If you want twelve wontons, buy two soups and combine them when you get home." Friend: "Maybe I should go to New Star (a well-regarded local Asian restaurant) instead." Manager, belligerently: "Yeah, you do that. Go to New Star!" (Which my friend did -- New Star was willing to accommodate her.)
It seemed like such a minor request. My friend would have paid for two soups. What was the problem? Perhaps it was just that the manager was having a bad day. Still, maybe they should call it the...
Read moreA regular customer at J-Wok/sushi junki, I learned of this location by receiving a menu in the mail. We decided to give it a try, as sushi junki has never disappointed. This location is vastly different, only set up for take out. Feel free to dine in, but you must order and pay at the front counter and get served in Styrofoam containers/plates/cups & plastic forks. Sushi rolls were mediocre at best, mostly shrimp and avocado, use of fish was sparing, and doused in sauce - so definitely not worth the cost. Chinese food entree was mostly rice, but serving size was quite large, which I assume I was charged for the large, instead of the small I ordered. Maybe I’m wrong and their servings really are that big? Biggest oddity - even though there was soy sauce on the table, and we were dining in, the employee brought us two plastic take out containers filled with “sushi sauce”. Um, yeah....more soy. Very odd experience, we will...
Read moreOrdered from this place about 5x's if not more a month spending at least $60-$160 each time. Well today I placed an order for what I typically get, SPICY pad thai noodles extra spicy among other things. I picked up the order to-go as I had a meeting to be at. Once I arrived at my meeting, 20 minutes later, I opened my meal and it wasn't spicy and didn't even have their typical pepper in it. So, I called. I explained the situation and the manager told me to "save the dinner until the next time I order. Otherwise, they will not replace the meal." So hold on to the meal for days on end until I want place another order?!!! I told him "I've never heard of that before" He said, "YOU DON'T HAVE TO, DON'T ORDER HERE ANYMORE". You better believe I elk bring my...
