Negative Star I was VERY disappointed after driving over 10+ hours and dealing with sleet and heavy rain We decided to stop and get some rest before finishing the last 4hrs to return back home after the weekend, being extremely tired We were excited to stay at the Best Western Plus as We travel past Ogallala often We knew it was new and recently opened....We had a price from an online booking site but was told my military discount would give a better discount...after getting to the 2nd floor room We were pleased to be accommodated for an end room right by stairs as We travel with our service dog and go out more than other guests and don't want to disturb others. Upon unloading and getting into room it was after 11pm and shift change had occurred, my husband was using the toilet and looked down to water running out from under the toilet seat, as he was sitting ;) his pants were drenched and now I had to bring in all the suitcases that we were trying to avoid for a fast leave in the early am...We called down to the front desk and was offered more towels to soak it up....and the TV kept shutting down/off line so NO channels would work....and kept turning off...We tried to get some sleep as now it was almost 2am....as the hotel is Very Clean and New and was refreshing to have the option for actual hot breakfast options....there were many open/unused available rooms to have been moved to....I called down in the morning after 8am was told by the original girl that checked us in manager would be in later in the morning..no time given? I explained the events and disappointment and unrestful night...she did apologize once but wasn't sure what to do....about an 40 minutes--hour later the manager came to our room as this was NO little leak 4+ bathsize towels at a time soaked the water up....as he came in my daughter was using the toilet and he could have cared less and said yes they have been having problems with them not being sealed correctly...and he did get the TV to work as We had reset the top button on the cable box behind TV??? As there are direction inside the guest book that I followed 3 different times that never mention this box mounted at the top behind TV on the wall...he did not identify himself or apologize at ALL.. he said would discount the room 1/2 price and said are We checking out today and turn to walk out... We asked when was checkout and could We have till noon as I was gonna try and sleep a hour or so as I was very tired....he said yes and left.. again NO apology and money CANNOT not buy back the time missed to sleep....then as I was packing back up the last items to leave 11:15 the front desk staff same girl that checked us in called the room to ask me are you staying over or checking out...I said We are getting ready to leave now and she said "Oo I was only told the room was discounted 1/2 off " then the most disappointing is as my husband got a printout of the charges/bill an additional$600+ YES six hundred dollars in charges were added and then credited back on the bill and yes 50$ taken off of the original room charge but as anyone would be shocked to see all these charges the manager came back inside from smoking as the front desk staff had just done before him..yes both outside together as We were just trying to check out that they were rushing us to do! The manager came in loudly not really knowing what was asked but said your card will be credited in 3--5 business days.. beyond rude!!! Have your card charged that ridiculous amount $656.64 the manager needs some serious training and support from the Best Western us franchise as I will be contacting them as well if possible I will attach a copy of the bill to support and demonstrate my accurate and 100%truthful account of my experience...it was obvious the only thing the manager wanted was us gone as it inconvenienced him not taking the time to attempt to improve the experience money or discount was NEVER asked for on our end as I said you can't pay for time to be given back for such a New Nice hotel it was very...
Read moreI’ve worked on the road for eight years. Spire Elite at IHG, Platinum Elite at Marriott, you get the idea- lots of hotels. I don’t leave TripAdvisor reviews because my experiences at mid-tier brands (Holiday Inn, Marriott Fairfield, etc.) are fairly comparable. The rooms are clean, the wifi works, the breakfast is hot.
That is, until I met the general manager Gary. I have never been so frankly bamboozled and disrespected at a hotel.
Starting at check-in, I ask the friendly desk agent to use my Best Western gift card. She is new at the position and does not know how which is completely understandable. So she summons the general manager, Gary.
Starting off, he’s pulled his mask down. He proceeds to tell me that he’ll need a printed copy of the gift card. I don’t have one in 2020; it’s on my phone. And so I ask, can I hold the room with a credit card and give him the printed gift card later in the day? No, he says, that would mean he has to reverse the charges on the card and then reapply them to the gift card. To my mind, this would be the point of a hotel reservation system but ok, printed it is. I do some problem-solving for myself and email the gift card to the front desk agent and she prints it for Gary.
But there’s a rub. I want to use more than one gift card. Oh boy, sighs Gary, that’ll be a pain. Because I’ll have to enter each one into the reservation system and make a separate transaction for each one. My eyes glaze, my interest fades, and so fine, just use one of the gift cards. He thanks me for only using one gift card.
Things are great. The room is modern, spacious, positively delightful. I go to check out and ask a different front desk agent for an itemized receipt. Maybe she knows a trick Gary didn’t, never hurts to ask right? She is stymied and calls Gary again. He is, again, maskless and two feet away. The Best Western “We Care Clean” advert plays above the elevator at this point as my eyes glaze, my interest fades, and there’s nothing to be gained here. I leave politely.
This is Sunday morning.
I then go on down I-80 to the Best Western in North Platte for the next night. What a great time there- they take my gift card on the first try and give me an itemized receipt. Well, I think, maybe I can just send him the itemized receipt from North Platte and there’s some magic button he could push to create an itemized receipt. Or failing that, he could call North Platte and ask them how they performed this wizardry? And so I email him: “Below you will see what N. Platte gave me. Perhaps you could do the same?” This is Monday morning.
Monday afternoon, Gary emails me back. To quote: “Absolutely not. The way you left that room was disgusting. There was vomited and urine all over the bathroom. We have to remove everything out of there and disinfect the whole room!”
I’m 31 years old with a firm grasp over my bodily functions & fluids. That didn’t happen.
But people lie as Dr. House says. I might be lying; how would you know? So I call and ask that afternoon- would you please send me photos? Of course, Gary said, I’m on it. He didn’t call, email or text about the (alleged) damages or reach out afterwards with a receipt showing the amount of damages.
After a brand experience this poisonous, I will never stay at a Best Western again. They have lost a business customer for life with...

When you first walk into the room, the "landing" was tiled, but the rest was carpeted - really enjoyed the design of that. I hate when the whole floor is tiled, but I liked that the entryway was.
Great TV channels according to my companion, appreciated the TV guide more than most hotels.
The lighting was inadequate - it seemed dark even with all of the lights on, although the underlighting on the desk was a great feature and gave us soft lighting that didn't seem too obtrusive in the morning.
The staff were all very pleasant, the front desk people, the breakfast lady, did not meet one person who was unpleasant.
The sliding door to the bathroom is the worst, I hate that design, it leaves gaps to the bathroom and IMO, should never be used for hotels.
The beds were TERRIBLE, very uncomfortable and the pillows were not much better.
I would give this place 4.5 stars if i could because of that, the beds alone make me not want to recommend this hotel because that's a major reason why you are staying.
The ice machine in the hallway was well placed, easily accessible by all rooms and great for refilling our cooler.
It is a pet friendly hotel, plenty of areas where you can allow your pet to relieve themselves. They had a dog bag dispenser at almost every grassy area which is so nice to have so many access points. They were also full! I can't even begin to explain how many times the bag dispensers have been empty at other hotels. I always wish that pet friendly hotels would have a little fenced area to allow dogs to go off leash, especially as this was near major roads and there are NO dog parks in Ogallala, but c'est la vie.
There was a DQ and a nice coffee place nearby within walking distance which is always nice especially when you are driving for hours and hours every day.
The breakfast was great, had so...
