We decided to go to Ojai for my wife's birthday on March 22, 2023. She thought it would be fun to stay in a place that was built the year she was born and so did I. ||The online photos and aesthetic are admittedly cool, but that where it ends.|I get really peeved with a too cool for school" attitude in restaurants and other establishments in the hospitality space.|That's this place. But aside from that vibe, there are HUGE issues with this “hotel” (motel really), chief of which are the PAPER THIN WALLS. Next is the bathroom. Remember. This renovation was done in 2020. So with Covid, wear and tear should be minimal by early 2023 when we visited. The bathroom door is made of particle board which was completely swollen and ruined by water damage from the shower that features a fitted glass wall that only covers half the stall. As a result water sprays all over the wall and floor and even if you try to use the bath mat, it's completely soaked after a shower.||Poor, impractical design.||The Daiken brand AC was also odd. I've used many mini-split systems, but this one did not feature a remote that operated as a thermostat. Sure, it had a temperature setting, but no readout out of what temperature the room was CURRENTLY at, so there is no way to know where to set the temp relative to that.||The in-room coffee and tea consists of a kettle and instant coffee. No Nespresso or other coffee service found in other boutique hotels of this price range. I assumed they were encouraging us to come to the lobby to enjoy their coffee "service" which features paper cups (okay fine) but no lids. Crazy.|And Like seriously - do you think people aren't going to want to take their coffee away or back to the room? Where’s the kids?! ||Oh, and as a cherry on the top, add bad WiFi that only worked part of the time. Good thing our t-mobile data devices worked there. ||A cheap, ill-conceived cosmetic renovation does not a boutique motel make.||Others have mentioned all of these things in prior reviews, so l'm not saying anything new here. Listen to them, and us.|I don't know if there are better options in Ojai, but I know you should...
Read moreDisappointed After a Previously Wonderful Experience||I’m writing this review with genuine disappointment, as our recent stay at The Capri Hotel in Ojai was a stark contrast to our first visit which was so lovely that we decided to return.||On our previous trip, we felt warmly welcomed and truly comfortable. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff was kind, and it felt like a perfect fit for a family getaway. Unfortunately, this time around was a very different experience.||I brought my kids to the pool, along with their cousins and a few friends who also had children. The kids were well-behaved, just playing, laughing, and enjoying themselves like kids do. We were the only group at the pool aside from one adult quietly reading, who didn’t appear to mind us at all. Despite this, the staff repeatedly told the children to be quiet. It wasn’t like they were screaming or being disruptive, just typical, joyful poolside laughter. It felt unnecessarily strict and, frankly, very unwelcoming.||We paid to stay here and expected to feel like guests, not nuisances. It was disheartening to be made to feel like our presence, and more importantly, our children, weren’t wanted.||I understand wanting to maintain a peaceful atmosphere, but when you market yourself as a family-friendly boutique hotel, there should be room for kids to enjoy themselves without being constantly policed for simply being kids.||It’s unfortunate to say, but we left feeling like we wouldn’t return. I hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously because it has the potential to be a truly special place, if it’s welcoming to...
Read moreIncredible hotel & experience! We found it Googling for dog-friendly hotels in Ojai, and this place surpassed our expectations! It’s a remodeled motel (very Ace Hotel Palm Springs vibes, but dare I say BETTER than Ace!?). Property itself is a tropical hideout with palm trees and retro furniture. The rooms were remodeled just like the photos - rooms were sparse but clean and well done, they didn’t skimp on quality and style. Loved the bathrooms too, and all the small attention to detail. They had a huge backyard dog run grassy area which was perfect for our pup & to hang with other fur guests. The pool and jacuzzi are open all night (unheard of!) so we enjoyed a late night peaceful jacuzzi dip. The staff are super friendly and accommodating, and they have an easy text communication service. Free (good) coffee and tea in the lobby was a nice morning treat. Complex was super quiet at night. Despite having a street-facing room, it was quiet enough to sleep and cars were just a faint background hum. Great location just a short drive (or long walk) to the main drag with shops and restaurants. We will absolutely be back, as this has become our new go-to Ojai spot! Only two downsides: the bed was hard (my boyfriend loved it but as a side sleeper, I woke up with a stiff neck) and it was pretty pricey ($450/night), but we were here on a holiday weekend so we weren’t surprised. Still plan on coming back and would...
