We wanted to adopt a dog after we just lost our little baby girl in November 2023 by getting hit by a car who was going too fast down the road. We were very excited to adopt a puppy and for some reason they forced us to do a 2 week foster to adopt program when we were just ready to take her home and have her be ours. Then my wife was hospitalized and we didnât make it back in time on the second week and they told us our price was only 10 dollars then all of a sudden it changed to 50 dollars just because and in my mind you canât say one thing then go back on it. Itâs wrong to do to people including the fact that we bonded so well to her and really loved her as well. When we finally got a hold of the human society to explain what had happened they forced us to bring the dog back and demanded we pay 50 dollars that day and not the 10 we agreed on and after we had bonded so well with her they could not even wait one more day for us to get the 50 dollars and they caused lots of drama at my mothers house and broke my wifeâs heart because we had to return the dog after she put work into starting to train her. The humane society said itâs about the dog and we just had gotten her settled in and bounded with her and now she is ripped away from us and gone. We lost our little baby girl in November and now we have lots another one because the human society couldnât work with us. We loved her so much and now the heart break continues. We will be looking else where for a dog from now on because they hurt us and let alone confused the poor puppy about what was happening we would have given her an amazing life and it is so sad that the people who work there were so rude and hurtful to do this to my wife and I after we went through such a sad loss. We are...
Read moreNormally I would have to say that I thought very highly of the Ojai animal shelter but unfortunately one individual particularly has broken my 2 daughters hearts and mine as well not only because our precious cats Steven a beautiful black haired,, big yelloq/ green eyes was a loving, talkative snuggle buddy and was my daughter Sally's inseparable companion as well as our super smart, huge Golden eyes, sort haired grey and white strips, tiny but trick Master. My daughter jennea found him alone at a ranch, tiny, malnourished and still required to be bottle fed. Pepe was nursed back to health a was a pleaser! Jennea actually taught Pepe to sit, stay and wait b4 he would sit up and enjoy his treats. Steven and Pepe were in short term care of a woman whome I thought could be trusted while my daughters and I were in the process of moving but instead and without my consent she surrendered them to the shelter..when I was made aware of this cruel and malicious behavior I immediately began emailing, calling and was not getting any positive assistance from a particular person who was the person that apparently handles situations like mine. Enail after email informing her that Steven and Pepe NEVER should have been there in the first place and they have a family that loves them and wants them returned. Everything I was told to do to prove that they were mine, she disregarded and both Steven and Pepe were adopted by new people even though I begged, cried, sent pictures of my daughters with them and now we still can't believe the cruel and plain out wrong behavior of both our cat sitter and the women who owes us a huge apology and to make right by returning Steven...
Read moreI scheduled my Female Bully to be spayed at the Humane Society in Ojai, 3 weeks ago. There was a backlog because she weighed over 50 lbs. (59 lbs). She is a bully and short and stocky. My previous vet at 101 vets, said her weight and body mass were normal for her breed. This am, I went to her scheduled appt, and was checking her in. One of the techs announced to the front desk that my dog was obese and looked as if she has recently given birth, without any prior history. When I told her she is only a year old, and has not had any puppies, she said âhave them sign a waiver.â We agreed to sign the waiver. While weighing our dog, the Front desk assistant kept pushing my dog with her foot and telling her to STAY, while yanking on her collar. My dog had gained 1 lb since the appt was scheduled and I was quoted $175 for dogs weighing 50-80 lbs. We were informed that they would be adding on $50-$125 due to her âobesity.â Forward to this afternoon when I picked my dog up. I was charged an additional $75 because they said my dog was âstill in heat.â Her last heat ended on April 1. When I brought this to the Front Desk Asst attention, her only response was â youâd be surprised!â I would be surprised! I thought the Humane Society was a not for profit organization. I feel betrayed, preyed on, and disgusted by the treatment of my dog. She is a professionally trained service animal. I feel like due to her âbreedâ, we were subjected to unfair charges, and disrespect from the staff. O/10⌠would...
