Tuesday afternoon around 4-5 pm. Our family stopped by for ice cream. We chose this location over Bliss simply because Bliss seemed to pretentious in their marketing. I understand people want more choices like vegan, organic, and the such, but ice cream should be simply good ice cream. None of our children asked if the ice cream was organic or vegan. They just asked if they could get an extra scoop. About this shop...it's OK. Great selection of flavors. Fudge and sugar free treats are available. Service was fast enough despite only one person in the shop. She was okay. Nothing special with the service. She did help answer questions about the flavors and was well experienced with her scoops and techniques. Flavors I can review are Rum raisin, Expresso Coffee, mint chocolate chip, sugar free parline, pineapple, peach, and cookies and cream. Rum raisin did have good amounts of raisins but lacked rum flavor. Expresso Coffee was great for coffee fans and strong enough to have a great aftertaste for a while. It does have coffee bits in the ice cream so be warned. Mint chocolate chip had good amounts of chips but mint flavor is weak. Sugar free parline is creamy and delicious with flavor that will make you doubt it's sugar free. Pineapple is a sorbet. Flavor is good and seems natural. Refreshing. Peach has a good flavor. It tastes like peach. I didn't notice any peach chucks. Cookies and cream is as expected. Nothing special but always a kid favorite. Place is rather small with almost no seating. Best to order and eat outside on benches or across the street in the park. At $3.50 a cup or cone (enough ice cream for both kids and adults in a single size), the ice cream is worth a try. Find your favorite and enjoy. Eat quickly as the ice cream tends...

The shop was left to kids running the place, serving samples, scooping ice cream, and handling cones WITHOUT gloves or any type of paper on the cones, at the same time as handling cash and no hand-washing in between. In the moment, it hadn't occurred to us, but, in hindsight, the thought of bare hands in the vats of ice cream, touching the ice cream as the sample was handed over is just disgusting to think about.
We're not sure if it was from the ice cream or the bare hands, but, within hours of our visit, my husband suffered terrible food poisoning, the worst he's ever had, he said. We had a red-eye flight the next evening, which also happened to be my birthday, and we had to cancel our last outing with family before leaving because he was absolutely miserable. Needless to say, our trip home was very unpleasant for him. He suffered from the aftereffects for...
Read moreAs a local of Ojai, I am extremely disappointed in the customer service I experienced today and highly embarrassed for this being the type of customer service others (local or tourists) would receive. Whoever the older woman is that I interacted with today has no business being in customer service. Doug Rydbeck, the Owner of Ojai Ice Cream, you should fire this person immediately as she is an embarrassment and toxic for your business. For this reason I will never recommend their store to anyone no matter how good their ice cream may be. I can just as easily support other local friendly shops here in town like Bliss Frozen Yogurt or the Ojai Valley Inn and Libby's Market where they sell McConnell's Ice Cream. You only received this 1 star rating because this review requires something to be entered. Too bad there isn't a negative rating option as that's what your employee deserves. My advice to anyone thinking of going...
