I'm not even sure where to start. Before arriving, I received a phone call saying that they manage many properties and I needed to tell them when I am arriving so they will be there to give us the key. We were also told there were no blankets but sheets were provided. If you look on their website versus other ones there is conflicting information, depending on the room. While one says there is a toaster and grill to use, the other says there isn't. It specifically lists there is an outlet by the bed, but ours didn't have one. It also says sound proof rooms, which is an outright lie. At night, I actually had to look outside to see if our neighbors were sitting in front of our door because the sound of them loudly and drunkenly talking was traveling straight into our room. They were in front of their door, not ours. We had to blast the TV to drown them out, even with our AC on high. Luckily, the TV was working because it had been working only intermittently.
I should really start from the beginning though. We checked in and as soon as we walked into the queen room we saw that it hadn't been swept. There was dirt, sand and dog hair very visibly all over the floors. I opened the mini fridge to put some of our things away and decided to keep it all in our cooler because the shelves were dirty and there was even food left in the freezer. Before I even walked into the bathroom, the reeking stench of urine hit me. It smelled like people had been peeing on the floors for multiple days. By then, I started to look up any other rooms available at last minute nearby. As you can imagine, I didn't find any. We put some of our things down and I saw that every surface--on top of the fridge, tables, dresser- were dirty. I imagine that one stay wouldn't have caused so much filth. I really feel as though it went multiple stays without being cleaned. Someone had also dropped a bag behind one of the tables. With corona on the prowl, I really felt uncomfortable touching other people's things. Although, with nothing being wiped down already what's the difference? We called to tell them about most of these issues. We were told that someone would come by to clean it properly. We waited around about 10 minutes and the man who checked us in came to clean. He sprayed some very noxious bleach cleaner and did a quick wipe down of the bathroom. Nothing else was done. We had to go to Walgreens ourselves to buy cleaner and paper towels just to feel like we could stomach staying in the place.
We were also told that there was a pet fee when we checked in. Nothing on their website said anything about this. We were already there with our dog so we had to choice but to keep him with us. Later on, the charge was put through without any other word about it. I wasn't asked to sign for the charge at all.
On top of the filth we encountered already, the sink barely had any flow at all. It took a long time to wash our hands. There was no hand towel provided either. Luckily I had brought a small one. Only two small bath towels, two wash cloths, shampoo, conditioner and a bar of soap was provided. No bath mat either. I really cringed getting out of the shower to put my bare feet on the floor. Not that it mattered so much, because the paint that's peeling off the shower floor provided my feet with some coverage as it stuck to my feet. The shower, as you can imagine, had a low flow as well. It also loudly dripped all night no matter how tightly we turned the handles off.
The only positive is you can walk to the beach from here. It's only about a 6 minute walk. If you don't feel like walking to the beach you can head over to the pool, if you don't mind dog hair. People were swimming in the pool with their dog while we stayed.
The only positive was the close proximity to the beach. Was it worth a filthy, uncomfortable room? Absolutely not. The condition of this place is disgusting. With corona looming, it's simply irresponsible and unsafe....
Read moreWe just spent the weekend here in one of their 2-bedroom cottages and we were extremely disappointed. Not only was the cottage SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than we had anticipated (there is absolutely NO WAY it can accommodate 6 people as advertised on their website - the two of us and our dogs could hardly even move around without trampling over each other), but there were several other issues as well. First off, the entire cottage was in great disrepair and was very dated. It wasn't even all that clean, especially the bathroom/shower. The floors were filthy are our socks were incredibly dirty just from walking on them. The bathroom door did not open without extreme difficulty from the inside. I actually got stuck in there on our first morning and I had to wait for my boyfriend to get back from the store to let me out! There was even a cockroach in the shower when we first arrived. Gross!!!! I emailed them about this and Ron outright refused to believe that there was a cockroach and said it was "probably just a bug from outside." Please...we KNOW what a cockroach looks like! Secondly, we could not adjust the volume on the TV in the "sitting area" and the volume was up way too high. Then, the handle came off the toaster as well as one of the knobs on the gas stove. The couch wasn't very clean, was uncomfortable, had a musty odor, and the bedding was paper thin, so we were freezing both nights we were there, even with the AC turned off. There were also only 2 super uncomfortable pillows on the bed. Probably one of the biggest concerns is that the shower floor was VERY slanted. My boyfriend actually slipped in the shower as a result of this. This is a huge fall hazard and someone could be seriously injured! I won't even go into detail about how ridiculously tiny the bathroom was. We couldn't even get the window to open to let steam out from the shower and there was no fan.
Lastly, the pool area is TINY. We were so looking forward to lounging by the pool and swimming, but it was full of kids the entire weekend and there was no place for us to sit. That was a huge letdown for us.
We frequent Old Orchard Beach quite often in the summer and we have stayed at several different hotels and resorts here, but this was, by far, our least pleasant experience at any place we've ever lodged. The only positive is that this place is dog friendly, but our overall experience will surely prevent us from ever returning to Landings Inn & Cottages. We definitely overpaid for what we received. What was supposed to have been a relaxing and fun weekend getaway turned into stressful chaos and extreme disappointment. I requested a refund, but Ron refused, basically implying that all of these things were OUR fault for "not saying anything sooner" and he refused to assume any responsibility whatsoever, even denying a partial refund. Honestly, the entire weekend, we stayed away from this place because we couldn't stand it, and only went back at night to sleep. AVOID THIS PLACE AT...
Read moreWe just spent the last two days in cabin 1. Our party consisted of my husband, our teenage daughter, her best friend, and me. We did some quick research and noted that the reviews were mixed, but seemed to be okay after the new management took over. Plus, we were not looking for anything fancy, just a clean and comfortable cabin (our main intention was to explore Old Orchard Beach - not stay in the room.) Firstly, I will say that the location was great, and was conveniently located near the beach, beautiful memorial park, the amusement park, etc. However, that was about the only redeeming factor! When we first arrived, the cabin looked adorable from the outside and upon checking in, a very nice gentleman greeted us and gave us a quick rundown of where the beach, stores, etc., were located, and we found this helpful. However, when we went into the cabin, we were extremely disappointed for the following reasons: 1. It is VERY small. The two bedrooms are tiny, and with the exception of a nightstand and a bed, there is no way to store your belongings or even walk around the bed itself. We had to constantly pack and unpack - there isn't even a hook or anything to hang a towel, clothing, etc. 2. The kitchenette and "living room" were filthy. The floor was dirty and the appliances were disgusting. The refrigerator had rusted racks, and the top of the stove looked as though it hadn't been properly cleaned in months. 3. The bathroom....sigh. Again, we were just looking for a clean place to shower and sleep, and were not expecting a lot. However, the bathroom was so small, that you could not sit on the toilet and fit your knees - you had to sit sideways. The bathroom sink was so small that just running water to wash your face, wash your hands, or brush your teeth resulted in water spraying EVERYWHERE. The shower had (as my husband said) an "outdoor shower" look, as it was a tiny stall with a very pronounced slope towards the drain - almost dangerous. The faucet handles were old-fashioned (okay, no big deal) and nearly impossible to turn on or off. We forgot our noise machine, but it was fine, because we listened to dripping water throughout our stay. The floor was gross, and when we put the bathmat down on the floor it was dirty on the back. 4. The beds were comfortable, but we were only given a very thin bedspread - we stopped at the nearby Walgreens and bought some beach blankets to use instead. While I was there, I picked up some cleaning supplies and cleaned the cabin that we spent almost $750.00 for (2 nights, with taxes and fees.) We don't have an issue spending the money, but we definitely expected more. Not happy, and very...
