We stayed in a beautiful second floor beach facing room with many windows. Separate sitting room with a TV. King size bed very comfortable.
Bottom line- we loved our stay here and want to return- have made reservations for next year already.
Please know that all reservations/check ins and outs/face to face interactions with staff for requests, etc. are made at the office at the Waves Hotel, down the street from this hotel.
As we travel a lot (my husband and I), I will give some things that I would want to know before I booked any hotel.
In the main Ocean House where we stayed, I believe all of the rooms have been renovated, and I love the bathrooms- super important to me to have a clean/updated bathroom. I'm sure every room has some variations in configuration. Although we had a lovely room with many beach front windows, there was no closet- the room only had five hooks to hang a hanger or two on. We actually bought a portable hanging wardrobe on the first night, so that we could hang our garment bags/hanging clothes on. There are also suitcase holders in the room, but we were part of a singing group and needed to hang clothes for performances. If you need an iron- bring one. I believe there is a hair dryer but I brought my own. There is no microwave, and we brought one. There is a small refrigerator and freezer, which is great. There are four glasses, but no other "kitchen wear/utensils"- bring disposable paper products if desired. There is no kitchen sink, so you wash dishes/utensils in the bathroom sink. The bathroom mirror in this particular room was not in front of you, but on the side. It worked. There isn't housekeeping unless requested. We requested a replenishment of towels once via phone in the room- and they came promptly outside of our door. We did our own "housekeeping" each day (we don't mind at all), and were able to empty our trash right outside the room into a larger covered receptacle. The Keurig didn't work so we requested a replacement, which also came promptly but hadn't been cleaned (old k-cup in it of unknown age) so we didn't use it. We just bought coffee each day locally. There is direct access to the beach. You could also use any pool at a variety of properties as they were all owned by the same person. The Seaview pool and Ocean House pool were right next to each other- both nice, clean, and not too crowded. BBQ grills at the Seaview also. The Waves pool was close by down the street. The Ocean House foyer and first floor public rooms (like 3-4 areas) are lovely- great gathering place- will bring board games for next year's stay. Consider using the room with the bar to serve AM coffee or soft drinks. You get one parking pass for one vehicle and can park on any of the Lafayette owner hotel properties. This was never a problem. There is no elevator in the main Ocean house. Nice walk on this road right down to the pier.
Not sure if I should mention this- but I will- there was obvious smoking occurring in a room near ours, which we could only smell in the hallway when entering and leaving our room. A slight annoyance.
But to reiterate, it was a lovely stay, and we are looking forward to our stay again next year, and hopefully for...
Read moreDrove up from the pier side & the whole place was trashed, I wondered if we had been totally scammed! I found a spot to park & asked an employee picking up trash where to check-in & he just kept saying "at the front desk". There was literally no 'front' let alone a desk. On one of the buildings out front there was a sign directing me down to another hotel. Once I figured out where to check-in the process was seamless. They claimed I could use the pool at waves but I never made it over there because we were supposed to wear these bracelets (like at concerts or amusement parks) and I didnt love the idea of myself and my kids walking around advertising where we were staying! Also I didnt feel like walking 3 blocks with the kids excited to go to the pool but risking it being crowded or whatnot, so I just told them ours was closed. We had a queen/sofa streetview on the 2nd floor. The 'patio' was blocking walkways & I had to go up another flight of stairs bc people were sitting outside thier room blocking the path. There were two windows - the large front one which we never opened the curtain because it was such a privacy breach & the small one in the bedroom which went to the construction site. The kitchenette was a great addition I didn't realize we had though. An overhead light in the kitchen area didnt work & niether did the bathroom fan. The small dim light in the living area was insufficient to actually sit & chat near. There was candy on the floor in the bedroom & a large pee stain on the sofa bed's mattress cover, also no bedding for the sofa bed. I called to have them replace the cover & bring bedding, even changed the door sign to "Please makeup room" when we left, but noone came so we put a flat sheet over the actual sofa & slept on that. Walls are paper thin, I could hear neighbors in all directions as if they were sitting right next to me and the ton of times the train went through across the road woke us up & shook the building. The location is still what kept us there, it was 3 nights & we survived just fine. Definitely wouldn't recommend for families! Still regret paying $150 a night but young adults looking for a place to crash & not spend downtime in, the place...
Read moreLafayette Hotels now owns Ocean House (to go along with the adjoining Waves, Kebec 3, Sea View, and Gull). We used three of the different pools (and a hot tub). All of the pools were really good. We also used the picnic tables at Waves. Check in is at Waves. Our room was in the motel behind the big, old, original Ocean House. So we were facing West Grand. (We did have a view of the ocean through the bedroom window). It can be noisy being so close to the street. (The other guests were all quiet). Parking was great, right outside our door. We had a queen bed, pullout sofa and a cot. We swapped the first cot for one that was really good. The bed was good. The sofa bed was not so good. And it was broken, although we jerry-rigged it so it worked okay. The floor was updated and it had fresh paint. Huge tv. Had a fridge and microwave, a Keurig, and a good AC unit. Also ceiling fans. Had a two-burner stove and plates, silverware, etc. The living room needed another light, but we brought in one of the lamps from the bedroom. Wi-Fi worked good. Shower was good. We went to the beach after checking out, then made use of the restroom in the Waves lobby to change out of our swimsuits. That was much appreciated. And guests are usually allowed to leave their cars here until 1:00 after checking out. This location is the best in OOB. It appears that Lafayette is really investing in this grand old gem. (The entire original building was rented by a private group while we were there, so we couldn’t go in and explore the common areas or check out the interior improvements). It was not cheap to stay here in early August. But we keep coming back to the Lafayette complex at OOB because they are friendly and deliver a good...
