Front desk staff #1&2 were both disingenuous and rude when we stated that we paid extra for M Club Access, but it wasn’t unlocked. So, my daughter had to go back down to front desk (staff #1) after they were rude about the status not being the required level, even though I paid for that specific addition…and had to show proof of extra payment for the benefits to get access. Why can’t they see that on their side???(software issue?)—I was already checked in and headed to the Royals game. Staff #1 didn’t even apologize; just had another staff hand my daughter the new keycards when she got off the elevator…no apologies apparently needed. THEN after returning from the game, I found out that I had to go back down to the front desk to get breakfast tickets for M Club, since they serve in the lounge on Saturdays, and Darci (front desk staff #2) was skeptical and rude, so I showed proof of my confirmation email to avoid the hassle. Then, called about a toothbrush (they or she doesn’t really want to help if you forget something, so I had to go back down to the desk to wait in line while Darci was busy messing up someone else’s credit card payment change and waited in line in my PJ’s for 10ish minutes; she handed it right to me no questions asked, but could’ve put it out on the counter or sent it up to the room anytime before that…so while waiting 10 minutes I had my daughter call down to housekeeping (apparently forwarding to the front desk at that point) to get towels for our post-morning swim showers, and Darci hangs up after stating that she’ll have some sent up and makes a snide remark grunting “ugh” & something to the effect of “what in the world.” Lots of teaching moments here and maybe some needed software updates so that when us lowly guests that don’t have either a traveling job or millions of dollars to earn executive privilege and that occasionally splurge to purchase executive privilege can get access without being treated like we’re trying to “pull one over on them.” MAYBE THIS IS WHY COLLEGE KIDS THAT AREN’T OLD ENOUGH OR GOOD ENOUGH TO BOOK HOTEL ROOMS WILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VRBO & AIR BNB MARKETS MOVING FORWARD. Very dissatisfied that our hard earned money (probably way more annually than the snooty front desk clerks combined tonight…so I’m not sure about the judgement from them) isn’t good enough for them to let us simply enjoy a night at a hotel with silly M club access, a Suite at the Big Slick Celebrity / KC Royals Game, some shopping, some PF Changs, etc. in KC. Just for clarity, I called and spoke to the male manager on my way to the Royals Game about the lounge extra purchase and he didn’t apologize and didn’t mention the breakfast coupons…just said he could have it added and that he would talk to the clerk…maybe they put a note on your account that you complained and that’s Darci’s excuse/reason for being rude, but there’s really no excuse here! Read moreThere are a few things you should know about the hotel before booking which I wish that I knew.
This hotel does not have a microwave in the rooms
This hotel does not offer hotel lobby coffee.
This hotel charges 10 dollars a day for parking.
This hotel charges $14.95 dollars a day for internet and breakfast is 12 dollars plus tax if you want it.
The pros.
This hotel has the best gym that I have ever stayed at. A full weight set with updated treadmills, stair master, bikes, etc. The beds are extremely comfortable with good pillows.
The bad
This hotel has very little privacy sound wise from your room to the hallway. It has to do with the large gap underneath the door and no door sweep. I used a towel to help prevent the light coming in from the hallways however you can literally hear conversations and every door opening and closing. This hotel comes with a very large TV which is awesome with hotel remotes instead of the factory one. This was unfortunate because I could not get into settings and turn off the stand by light for when the TV was off. Unplugging the TV was very difficult because the cord is hidden in the furniture.
There are no plastic bags in any of the 2 trash cans in the room. The sink in our room did not drain properly and we had to get it fixed. The vent in our bathroom by the shower head was dirty. The toilet also sometimes would run constantly and we had to mess with the handle to get it to finally fill properly. The duvet cover does not fully cover the duvet.
The brunch is 12 dollars and is just OK. The fruit selection was the highlight for us. There are no boiled eggs or eggs to order. It is just boxed scrambled eggs. The coffee is not very good. Hot water tasted like old coffee residue probably because it used to have coffee in it. The hot water and coffee were the exact same model containers. I guess they want you to use the Starbucks in the hotel for good coffee.
The last straw for us was when we tried to use the pool and hot tub. The hot tub was not working (no vents) and was barely warmer than the pool. The hotel phone in the pool area does not work. We called with our cell phones and they told us they would send a mechanic. We waited 20 minutes for the guy to show up. 10 minutes after that I tried to get an eta from the guy who we could see through glass however the door to him was locked. He refused to talk to us, so we just left.
I am military going on 14 years and have stayed at 100s of hotels through PCS, vacations, etc. I have had really good luck with Hilton hotels in the past but decided to try this hotel because of a Traveluro deal which brought the pice down by like 30 dollars a night cheaper versus other hotels in the area. I would say it was not worth it because of the issues above and all the add on fees with parking, internet, and breakfast not included. You...
Read moreLobby is being renovated - I will ignore for this review except to mention there is a Starbucks on the first floor which is open. My room, a single King, was on the 9th floor and was newly renovated.
Location had easy highway access and is centrally located in Overland Park. There's plenty of on-site, flat lot parking. The parking has a key-controlled gate but the gates are not currently in service, possibly due to ongoing renovations.
The room decor is very much a boutique hotel style with unique wallpaper intended to reflect Kansas agriculture and a very mid-century modern aesthetic. The blue chaise is striking but the color and fabric reveal hair and fibers if not cleaned thoroughly. I appreciated the USB fixtures beneath the lamps - plenty of chargers for all your needs.
The TV can be controlled with your phone after scanning a QR code - nifty, but I didn't find it preferable to using the physical remote.
The bed is pretty firm but not uncomfortable and the linens were befitting a hotel in this category.
I don't know if all of their showers are like this or if I had an accessible room, but I thought the accessible features were actually very nice looking. I also liked having a wand along with the rainfall showerhead.
There were fairly large foods crumbs on the floor upon my entry - this oversight in room cleaning is one of three reasons for my 4-star rating.
The towels, compared to the bed linens, are substandard. The size is fine but they're not very soft. I may be pickier than most, but when the hotel's towels are significantly worse than my own, I notice it.
The last (and most significant) reason is the constant cycling of the A/C. It was in the 60's overnight outside during my stay and the thermostat was set to 68'. All night, it would cycle on and off in short bursts (1-2 minutes) and is rather loud. This constant cycling made it quite difficult to fall asleep both...
