This place was better than expected, but not perfect. The Good: The lady at the front desk was very friendly. Actually, one of the most friendly front desk people I've encountered. I stayed for three nights, and she texted me each night to make sure that my stay was comfortable. The place is remodeled pretty nicely. They chose modern finishes that gave it a really warm feeling. The parking lot and location are great. I will also mention that the building is set up so the front office can see across the whole property, which made me feel safe. This type of motor hotels can be sketchy sometimes, but this one was not.
The Bad: I mentioned how they remodeled, but the fact that it is an old building presents some challenges. There was a clear mildew smell present in the room. The air filter in the a/c unit was old and dirty. The comforter had a burn hole in it.
I will add 2 things. First, it's really impressive to see an older, updated, independent motor hotel that hasn't sold out to a big company, and still manages to keep away sketchy people. This is only the second one I've seen like this. That said, I think that there are a few repairs that need to be made that would make this place a true gem.
Do I recommend it? I guess. For the price, you can't beat it. But would I recommend it more if they did a little bit of...
Read moreI could not find anywhere else to stay in Oxford for visiting the college. |Online, Butler Inn has decent reviews, I am now wondering if they are fake. I checked into my room and there were several issues that made it a really bad evening of rest: |-it reeked of cigarette smoke. |-there was a buckle in the floor, like a big one, they have taped a rug over it, so I could not get a good picture, but it is a safety hazard and I don't think it would be up to building codes.|-the caulking in the bathtub has really big gaps|-very old mattress that is way too soft.|-dust on the nightstand, plus sticky remote, I do not think this room was well cleaned||The owner seemed nice, and was apologetic, but that was it. He still charged $160 to stay in a horrible room that no one should stay in. When I told him about the smell he brought me Glade to spray. At that point, I had a terrible headache and did not want to make it worse. I informed him of the serious issues in the room and he said they were going to renovate, at no time did he offer any kind of refund. ||Tripadvisor, please do not delete this review. I think their renovations are cheap fixes and this is not a clean property.|Note: I was in room 13,...
Read moreI would give it a 5/5 for customer service and check in. Received numerous texts during stay from front desk checking on my stay. I actually like the motel aspect of it, being able to park directly in front of room was great. While it is close to Miami, it’ far enough away that it’s not really walkable. The room itself was clean. It’s been updated with paint, furniture, and flooring. The mattresses in my room however were pretty bad. We also had a soft spot in the floor where the click flooring would unclick whenever you stepped on it. Also, some of the photos show white doors on the interior with updated showers and bathrooms. Mine didn’t look like that. Shower was an insert and sink was very small pedestal with nowhere to put toiletries and there were no hooks to hang towels. Door was old painted door that didn’t close all of the way. Maybe my room wasn’t completely renovated yet? Biggest issue was second night we came back to slight sulfur or sewer gas smell in the room. I’d say it was a good stay overall and would stay again in a pinch. If you don’t have the budget or dont want to spend on a hotel it’s a good option. I hope they can correct everything because this place...
