Judging by the other reviews, maybe I just got a bad room. I could see the effort they put into the remodel, but our room looked more like a remodel without fixing the underlying issues. The exterior and bathroom doors took concerted effort to close, door seal wasn't very good that let in bugs, the drain in the sink didn't have the lever to open/close the drain and was stuck closed so I needed to pull it open with my fingertips, but the biggest issue was the flooring. The laminate was bubbling up and cracking in a few places but right down the middle of the room was a giant crack and one side of the room was 1 inch higher than the other and they had just thrown a rug over it. Serious tripping hazard. Also made one side of the room rather bouncy and the bathroom a bit slanted. Sad since the room was clean and ordinary otherwise.

How this hotel has over a 4 star is beyond me. It’s a disgusting excuse for an “Inn”. Duct tape around the door, to cover a huge gap. Ruse all over the bathtub. Only a tiny window unit for heat/air. And with it being 20° outside and they didn’t have the heat on, it was cold. I didn’t stick around long enough to see how warm it would get. Ohio in January, snow on the ground of course. But they had not plowed their lot or cleared walkways to rooms. And in fact when I returned to check out, I got stuck and couldn’t get all the way up. The rooms are also tiny, the mattress had holes where the springs met fabric. The price may be nice but DO NOT STAY HERE. Do not be deceived by the pictures on the website. It’s a waste of money!

If I could give six stars for service, I would. My room was clean, comfortable and the price was right. The family running this is very kind and dedicated to excellent customer service. I’ve been doing a lot of business travel lately, and I actually got a lot of good sleep here. Each room comes with a full bath, of course. They have a small refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee pot along with an alarm clock with plenty of lights and air conditioning unit and heat pump. The area is very quiet considering this is a college town, but I would definitely stay here again if I have to work here again. It was a great home away from home and I miss it already.

This place was better than expected, but not perfect. The Good: The lady at the front desk was very friendly. Actually, one of the most friendly front desk people I've encountered. I stayed for three nights, and she texted me each night to make sure that my stay was comfortable. The place is remodeled pretty nicely. They chose modern finishes that gave it a really warm feeling. The parking lot and location are great. I will also mention that the building is set up so the front office can see across the whole property, which made me feel safe. This type of motor hotels can be sketchy sometimes, but this one was not.

The Bad: I mentioned how they remodeled, but the fact that it is an old building presents some challenges. There was a clear mildew smell present in the room. The air filter in the a/c unit was old and dirty. The comforter had a burn hole in it.

I will add 2 things. First, it's really impressive to see an older, updated, independent motor hotel that hasn't sold out to a big company, and still manages to keep away sketchy people. This is only the second one I've seen like this. That said, I think that there are a few repairs that need to be made that would make this place a true gem.

Do I recommend it? I guess. For the price, you can't beat it. But would I recommend it more if they did a little bit of...

I could not find anywhere else to stay in Oxford for visiting the college. |Online, Butler Inn has decent reviews, I am now wondering if they are fake. I checked into my room and there were several issues that made it a really bad evening of rest: |-it reeked of cigarette smoke. |-there was a buckle in the floor, like a big one, they have taped a rug over it, so I could not get a good picture, but it is a safety hazard and I don't think it would be up to building codes.|-the caulking in the bathtub has really big gaps|-very old mattress that is way too soft.|-dust on the nightstand, plus sticky remote, I do not think this room was well cleaned||The owner seemed nice, and was apologetic, but that was it. He still charged $160 to stay in a horrible room that no one should stay in. When I told him about the smell he brought me Glade to spray. At that point, I had a terrible headache and did not want to make it worse. I informed him of the serious issues in the room and he said they were going to renovate, at no time did he offer any kind of refund. ||Tripadvisor, please do not delete this review. I think their renovations are cheap fixes and this is not a clean property.|Note: I was in room 13,...

I would give it a 5/5 for customer service and check in. Received numerous texts during stay from front desk checking on my stay. I actually like the motel aspect of it, being able to park directly in front of room was great. While it is close to Miami, it’ far enough away that it’s not really walkable. The room itself was clean. It’s been updated with paint, furniture, and flooring. The mattresses in my room however were pretty bad. We also had a soft spot in the floor where the click flooring would unclick whenever you stepped on it. Also, some of the photos show white doors on the interior with updated showers and bathrooms. Mine didn’t look like that. Shower was an insert and sink was very small pedestal with nowhere to put toiletries and there were no hooks to hang towels. Door was old painted door that didn’t close all of the way. Maybe my room wasn’t completely renovated yet? Biggest issue was second night we came back to slight sulfur or sewer gas smell in the room. I’d say it was a good stay overall and would stay again in a pinch. If you don’t have the budget or dont want to spend on a hotel it’s a good option. I hope they can correct everything because this place...
