My wife and I planned a last minute trip to Monterey. I read a lot of the reviews for Deer Haven Inn and dismissed the bad ones and gave it a try and we are glad we did.|| We reserved the king bed with fireplace ||The fire place was simple and a nice touch to the room ||The bathroom was huge with 2 shower heads. The front desk was very pleasant and the price was extremely reasonable ||10 minutes from The Monterey Bay Aquarium and the 17 mile drive Very close to Carmel.||You are 5-10 minutes from food and a Safeway market Best part, only an 8 minute walk to the beach Pure white sand and a beautiful area. You won’t be disappointed ||It’s not a huge room, but I’m not one to hang out in my room all day. ||We will stay here again on our next visit ||It’s simple, affordable and in the middle of everything you need to have fun and a great vacation ||Small tip, if your going to the aquarium, take an Uber and save time on finding parking ||It’s only about...

We were really looking forward to our stay at the Deer Haven Inn, but unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The room had several issues that made it far from comfortable.

First, the fireplace didn’t work, which made it so it was cold the first night. On top of that, there was no hot water for showers the first morning — not ideal when you’re trying to get ready for the day. There were four of us in the room, but only three bath towels were provided, and we had to ask for an extra one.

The cleanliness also left a lot to be desired. The shower had mold in the corners, and there were a couple of brown stains on the bed comforter. To make things worse, the wall heater gave off a bad smell whenever it was running.

Overall, the room felt neglected and not well-maintained. With some attention to basic maintenance and cleanliness, this place could be much better, but as it stands, we wouldn’t stay here again or recommend...

We loved our stay at Deer Haven. It is in a very quiet neighborhood area, just 1 short block from Asilomar. You can walk down through the historic conference center to the beach. In California, place names often refer to animals, plants and geographical features that could not have existed there. But Deer Haven is the opposite. You will see deer in this neighborhood. Even as we were checking into our room we saw deer across the road, including a "bambi." The staff were very helpful and courteous. The room and bed were very clean and comfortable. The exterior is well kept and has many suspended flower pots to brighten up the verandahs. Just around the corner, at the gate of Asilomar, is a bus stop for the MST 1 bus. We used this one to get to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Most of the Pacific Grove peninsula is within about 30 minutes walk...

I have stayed at this budget motel many times and unfortunately, the rooms and customer service have hit rock bottom. For $225/night I received many bug bites in the morning, gnats all over the room, stains and holes in the sheets. Nasty. What's nastier is the response I got from the 20 year old girl at the front desk. She hasn't a clue about hospitality. I tried to change rooms and contact a manager many times before leaving negative feedback. Unfortunately, past taking your money, they can't provide any problem solving as they simply don't care. Such a shame to see this change.

What a cute motel! Less than 30 rooms but they are pet friendly and clean. We had a fireplace in our room and 6 pillows. Yes the bathroom is small, but the sink and vanity are outside the bath. No traffic noises, the motel is in a quiet neighborhood. This is one of the best values in our trip across the U.S.
