Read before judging the star ratings : This is a quaint albeit rustic motel located in a fantastic area close to all of the Pacific Grove and Monterey Cannery areas. The staff was fantastic and provided amazing service. The motel is woodsy, has ample off-street parking and was wonderfully quiet. The insulation between rooms was minimal but the guests themselves were respectful of others. The breakfast included coffee, tea, juice, waffle maker with normal and blueberry pancakes, very nice pastries, a small selection of fruit, and boiled eggs included in the room price. They also have an evening reception with cheese, crackers, salami and red and white wines.
The room: The motel was probably built in the 50s which is its charm and it's drawback. Our room was large, room 113, and looked and smelled very clean. It has a real wood burning fireplace stacked with wood and matches for chilly nights. It also has conventional radiant baseboard heaters. The TV was old, but we never turned it on even once. The furnishings are older and were showing their age. The bed was flat but lacked any pillowtop or other padding. Linens were spotless! The downside to the room was the carpet which was still in reasonable condition, but needed even more deep cleaning. It had obviously been cleaned, but is starting to look less than perfect.
The bathroom was large and very clean, but the sink area small. The original fixtures and doorknobs were part of the charm, but part of the drawbacks. Everything worked well, but the counters were worn and a few of the details need attention. Patches in the sheetrock had not been repainted yet, and a few fixtures loose. It is just a minor thing.
Grounds: The grounds were attractive and nicely maintained. The hotel has two inground spas that were crystal clear!
We had a really nice stay and the rates through their website were great. The motel was well worth the priced paid. We really enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again when...
Read morePlanning a trip for 3 years to see the Monarch Butterfly migration we searched for a place that would take our two dogs, close to everything we wanted to see and priced right to still enjoy our trip. After looking over many different options, reading reviews this seemed to be the best 3.5 star choice and we weren't disappointed. Even better our dogs had the BEST experience making our trip relaxed and amazing for us to enjoy all that we wanted to do.
Pacific Gardens Inn is tucked in the woods within walking distance to the Asilomar Beach that was convenient and perfect for getting our dogs and us out to relax while taking in the sunset or have the mornings greet us each day of our visit.
Our room although the decor was a bit dated was ample in size with a king-sized bed, plenty of floor space and an actual wood burning fireplace plus coffee and popcorn maker. The Inn even has complimentary continental breakfast with quite a spread that we were able to grab coffee for our mornings on the beach each day and in the evenings the complimentary wine and cheese in the lobby was nice to chat with other guests as we sat on the outside deck sharing with us that they had been coming to the Inn over the years with their fur babies. We even got additional inside scoop on some great places for the next time we visit. Seems all the guests felt the same as we did GREAT little place to stay with your furr babies and be in the heart of Pacific Grove.
Pacific Gardens Inn gave us a wonderful, relaxing getaway and experience. The staff here definitely deserves 5 stars from the moment we checked in, suggestions around town and offering to make reservations like the big fancy places, to housekeeping taking care of our room with our furry family members with us, the wonderful complimentary continental breakfast and wine & cheese evenings plus the gorgeous grounds. We look forward to our next getaway here - we'll...
Read moreMy friend and myself came for a few days to get away ,she has stayed at this place many times over the years with no real issues except the beds were that great but ..this time the beds were so worn out they squeaked horribly and you felt like you were sleeping with a spring in your back all night long We slept very little and woke with extreme back pain and hip pain for both of us. We went and let Robert the manager know of our concerns and he said we'll he has never had a compliant about the beds before very unprofessional and condescending. He said he was busy getting set up for breakfast and would talk to us later. We came back a hour later for him again to say we'll no one has complained before but he would have a guy but a board under the mattress . I could not believe that he thought that would fix them. We let him do it just for the sake of the argument . We went back several hours later and laid down on the beds they were no better at all. So we went back again to let him know that there was no improvement in the beds .He yelled so do you want to check out and I will refund that days money . We said yes and I told my friend to stay there and get her refund for that day and I would get the stuff out. He started yelling at her go go go go hurry up and get moved out and he would get her money ready. Shortly after we got back to room and started to pack up he came to the door and gave her the refund then not even 5 mins later and I'm not kidding he was banging on the door are you done yet. Robert had the worst attitude I have ever come across and should not work in hospitality ever and whoever hired him should reconsider that decision , no matter how long he...
