If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already read other very mixed reviews on the Rosedale Inn that advertises as “luxury suites”. I was very hesitant to book this inn, as the reviews ranged from “Great, love this place!” to “Never staying here again”. Here is an honest, detailed review of our stay in room 105.||We had our baby with us, so having a suite with a bedroom and small kitchen was a priority. So we will start with the pros. This is a true suite with a bedroom, and a kitchenette area. There was so much space, it was great for our baby to crawl around, and sleep in a separate room. ||The location of this inn also can’t be beat. The 10 minute peaceful walk through Asilomar to the beach was wonderful. ||The cons. This suite is quite rundown and there is evidence of major neglect. The couch was very broken, which as a result we couldn’t sit on. The curtain in the bedroom is also broken and you can’t close it all the way. Peeling wallpaper, rusty everything, stains on the walls, etc. While the room still felt clean, it was very obvious it needs a good update. ||The heater worked but something was off with it. We had set it to 64, however the baby monitor was reading that the room was 72 degrees. ||Just a few nitty gritty things: |Their website advertises that a crib is available for a fee. They actually do not have cribs available at all. ||Also the room is advertised online as suite with a kitchenette, however there are signs in the room that say no cooking is allowed. I almost brought the griddle to use, I’m glad I didn’t though because I wouldn’t have been able to use it. I will say though that they provide a few dishes and silverware that came in handy. A drying rack would have been nice. We washed the dishes and just used a small bath towel to dry them with. ||Lastly, we noticed that there was only one smoke detector, and that was in the living room area, there was no smoke detector in the bedroom. ||I would like to finish with this isn’t a review just to complain, it is just possible recommendations for how the owner of this inn could improve their suites. It was not luxury in any way, however I would say it was cozy. I’m not mad, I kind of expected this experience based on other reviews. ||I think if you have kids, just looking for a place to stay near the ocean, don’t care about the state of the room and have low expectations, this would be a good option. I feel that the room price was fair, based on location alone. ||At the end of the day, we had a great weekend and none of the cons really hindered our stay… except the couch. My only real complaint is get a new couch in...
Read moreUgh apparently Google Reviews doesn't allow spaces. The Rosedale Inn looked quite pleasant when we first arrived. We're not sure why it's classified as a hotel and not a motel, considering there's no one at the front desk after 8pm (or apparently at around 9am when we called the next day). We only stayed one evening.
Every single window in our unit was open, which suggests that people had checked out that morning and maybe the whole place got sprayed down (or just ventilated). It was a nice little suite that looked like it was remodeled fairly recently, although the arrangement seemed rather off - bed was right against the entrance by the parking lot, and the "sleeping room" was connected to the bathroom (with a jacuzzi), and a little "coffee station" with a sink and minifridge which lead to the main suite area, with a very stiff couch, desk, gas fireplace, and a second TV. There was a back entrance that lead to a non-private small back patio which consisted of four cramped plastic chairs and a bunch of dead overgrowth.
Location was pretty decent - a seafood restaurant and the beach both within 10 minutes walking distance, and a very short drive to one of the entrances for the 17-Mile Drive tourist trap.
There was a "coffee room" that seemed like an abandoned shack that used to serve continental breakfast, with a waffle machine that hasn't been used in who knows how long. The door was locked in the morning during regular breakfast time.
Biggest complaint - noise. Absolutely no noise insulation whatsoever. We were quite impressed the first night because we didn't hear a peep from our neighbors, so we thought the walls were thick enough. Noped. The next morning, we heard everything - regular indoor voices barely muffled, footsteps as though someone heavy was walking in a unit above us (and there is no second floor at this place), and all sorts of luggage being moved and dragged as the couple next to us was checking out.
Definitely not worth the $250 or so that we paid. Half of...
Read moreI still can't believe what a great deal this was! For me, it was perfect and I'm still savoring the time!
Pacific Grove is my favorite place to retreat since it's incredibly peaceful, beautiful and has so much to enjoy! I can walk through the quaint neighborhood, visit the bookstore/coffee shop, explore tide-pools, walk on amazing white sand beaches, watch surfers and sunsets, and even visit nearby Monterey & Carmel! I couldn't ask for more!
This time I didn't expect to find a place I could afford, so I was elated when such a great deal at Rosedale Inn came up! And it didn't disappoint! 5 minute walk to my favorite beach! Quiet location, extremely comfortable bed, jetted tub, fireplace, kitchenette and extremely clean! WOW!!!
The negative (which doesn't personally really bother me much, especially considering the price), was that it is definitely run down and needs some TLC for sure. The carpet was frayed in one area, the shower curtain had some lace ripping off, framed art was sitting on the fire mantle with the nail above it still in the wall, the fan only has one setting which was pretty much "extra low," wallpaper peeling off, one lock on a window missing (2nd lock was good enough though), tp holder half broken, no a/c, etc. My parents would complain for sure, but to me, these are minor issues compared to what I DID get! And like someone else said, the cleanliness makes up for all of it! Crisp, clean sheets, awesome pillows, large bed, great shower head....etc. The lady at the front desk was very kind, but it seems they may just be very low on help and maybe finances. No one was at the desk a couple of times I came by, and one time she had been walking her dog. I was fine, but this might be frustrating for some.
I just hope that if anyone fixes all of those little things, that I'll still be able to afford to stay here! :). I'll be...
