We usually love a good self-service check in boutique hotel in Palm Springs, but unfortunately we had a sad experience at Jazz and won't be returning.
Decided on a day trip with an overnight stay for my husband's birthday on 9/14/25. Check in was relatively easy-you're provided a gate and door code, and they let us check in earlier than usual since the room was ready. Room was nice and clean and the amenities are good. The pool was nice as well. We enjoyed our first day here and got some lounging time by the pool, which is what we wanted.
Unfortunately, the next morning, we were awaken at 6:50am to loud banging on our door. It literally startled me awake. We both thought it odd that anyone would be knocking this early, so my husband peaked through the curtains to check who was at the door. The individual appeared to be a disheveled man who looked out of it and was just standing expressionless outside our door. We were shocked and not expecting this, since the hotel has a gate code.
The man stood at our door in silence and would not leave, so we quietly attempted to call staff. Given it was 7amish, no one was answering. We ended up texting the number that texted us the check in information and the owner called us back a few minutes later. She confirmed the man was still outside and that she doesn't know who he is or how he got in. She then advised she would contact the manager to see if someone could assist.
After a few minutes, we got a call from the manager, who stated that it appears the man was still standing outside our door and that she was not sure who he was. She then stated she would send the maintenance worker out to check on the property, but that it would be about 30 minutes until they arrived. The man would not leave, and he knocked again loudly about 25 minutes into him standing in front of our door. We sat in our room in silence for about 45 minutes feeling so incredibly uncomfortable and somewhat scared.
At some point after the 45 minutes, my husband quietly looked out the curtain and saw that the man finally relocated to another room and was standing there for a few minutes, before he relocated again and was out of view. Not sure if anyone was in that room or if the man knocked. The manager called us back to confirm he was no longer on the property. It appeared the maintenance person came shortly after the man left, but we had no interaction with them, and they didn't come to speak to us.
While the owner/manager on the phone was apologetic, I left feeling so incredibly sad/disappointed by the lack of urgency by the staff to make its guests feel safe. They recommended us not to call the cops (we didn't have plans to anyway), but it took so long for anyone to come to our aid (and in the end, no one technically did since the man left). We let them know about how unsettling this all was, and all they could say was that it's never happened before. They didn't offer any sort of remedy to the situation or make us feel like our fear mattered. The only thing they said was that we could stay past check out if we wanted more time, but we were so unnerved by the experience that the last thing we wanted to do was stay in the hotel after feeling like hostages for an hour inside our own room.
As we were leaving, police arrived. I'm assuming maybe another guest or staff ended up calling them, but who knows.
So yeah, we won't be back. I'm assuming the staff will use this as an opportunity to tighten up their security/lock code process, or know to have a better response to something like this in the future. Sucks to be the one to have to experience this...
Read moreI found this gem through Expedia, and it was just as beautiful as in the pictures. I stayed in room #9, which was spacious and thoughtfully designed. I loved the small details, like a table for two by the window overlooking the pool and mountains. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the bed sheets, towels, and entire room were exceptionally clean! The lighting in both the room and bathroom was perfect—especially for applying makeup.
The decor outside the room was just as charming, and the shared kitchen was well-equipped. The owner was super attentive, ensuring everything was restocked daily. The pool was also temperature-regulated, which was a great touch!
The location is convenient, with restaurants and stores just a five-minute walk away. Downtown is about a 30-minute walk (slow pace). Communication was easy and quick, and the cleaning staff were friendly, helpful, and very attentive to guests’ needs.
I even had a 30-minute conversation with other guests in the hot tub about how amazing this place and its staff are! The nights were peaceful, and I met some wonderful people during my stay.
I highly recommend this place! I also encourage future guests to treat it with kindness and respect so it continues to be such a great experience for everyone. I will absolutely be coming back for my next winter scape...
