Black Bear Lodge is located in Silver Lake which is mid-mountain at Deer Valley Resort. It is across the street from the Stein Erickson Lodge and a short walk to the lifts. There is complimentary ski storage slope side so you don't have to schlep your equipment back and forth to the room. We chose BBL because of it's location in Silver Lake near a few restaurants and shops. We chose unit 408B because it was a large top floor unit with an updated kitchen and a beautiful view. All of the units at BBL are different as far as layout, furnishings and upkeep. We rented the unit though Wyndham Vacations which manages a number of units at BBL. The rental process was simple and straight forward. The online photos accurately reflect the unit. It was very clean and had a considerable amount of furniture, kitchenware and linens which made it comfortable for our large party. Be aware of a couple things regarding the loft. First, while the loft sleeps 6, there is no bathroom in the loft. Second, the stairs to the loft are dangerously steep. I insisted that the children/teens in our group descend the stairs backwards to minimize the risk of falling. The unit price included daily maid service which entailed replacement of towels, making of beds and placing of any dishes in the sink into the dishwasher. There was also a mid-week "deep clean" which included changing the linens and running the vacuum. There are televisions in the living room, bedrooms and loft and WIFI access is included. However, neither the cable nor the wifi was working during much of our stay. This was very disappointing because we were there over New Years and had planned on watching the NYE celebrations and the football games in our unit. The lack of wifi made it difficult for my son to submit online homework and my husband to perform work. My understanding is that this was a result of the owner not keeping their equipment current. A special thanks to Jason, the general manager, for all his help trying to solve this, but this avoidable problem definitely affected our stay. Consequently, I have rated the value lower because one would expect to have working cable and WIFI in a place renting at this price point. Although the general manager was very responsive, on the contrary, I found the front desk staff very unhelpful. Most every time we walked by or went to the front desk the person working there was on the phone. One day I became impatient waiting for the front desk employee to complete her personal phone call so I simply wrote out a note in front of her as to what I needed. In spite of the few issues we experienced, I would recommend BBL and...
Read moreThe merits of the Black Bear Lodge's location have been well-documented, so I'll focus on other attributes. It was a true luxury to soak in a personal hot tub after a long day of skiing, every day. My husband and I had loads of space in our sparkling clean one bedroom, two bath unit on the third floor. (308A) ||||The rustic leather furniture was comfortable for lazing around after a day on the mountain. The kitchen was well-stocked with supplies, so breakfast prep was a breeze. Wifi was rocket-fast, and the big screen televisions were a pleasure to use during the Super Bowl (except when our team was losing). The unit could reasonably accommodate a family of four, with the kids sleeping on a blow-up mattress in the living room or large master bedroom.||||Unfortunately the mattress on the kingsize bed was so soft and saggy that we woke each morning with aching backs. Since units are individually furnished, I don't know how often owners replace mattresses. ||||We stayed during a very quiet February week when few units were occupied. When the large fourth floor unit above us was used, we heard every sound. At 6:15 AM on our last day, I awoke to the sound of water, dripping through the ceiling above the tub in our master bathroom, from an overflowing tub or toilet above. A phone call to the "Front Desk" connected me with a Wyndham operator in Florida, who told me she was unable to do anything about the leak, and that no one was yet working at the Black Bear Lodge front desk. When we checked out later, I alerted the front desk host, who had not been told about the leak. I wondered how a more serious situation would have been handled, given the remote management.||||I liked most aspects of this lodging, and would recommend it as a good place for families to stay...
Read moreThis was our fourth time saying at the Black Bear lodge, and once again the place did not disappoint. The location is perfect for access to the Sterling lift at mid-mountain. There are also plenty of ski rental shops, free storage for skis, poles, boots, and a Deer Valley lift ticket window. The Bear has 24 hour coffee, tea and hot chocolate available, and if you hit it right, warm chocolate chip cookies. The pool and out door Jacuzzi are always heated, while the workout room has just about anything you would want for cardio and weight training. Our unit was a beautiful one bedroom with two full bathrooms. The bedroom is very big and has a king bed, fireplace, master bath with Jacuzzi tub and a walk-in shower. The second bath is almost as large as the master and also has a walk-in shower. The kitchen is a good size and is fully stocked with everything you might need for cooking complete meals. All of the appliances are up to date with all the bells and whistles. The living/dining area is very open and spacious. The fireplace is more than powerful enough to heat the entire area. Worked great in the morning to take the chill off while eating breakfast. Another feature of the unit is the 4 person Jacuzzi spa located on the balcony. The view of the ski slopes on one side and the mountains in the distance is not to be missed. The Black Bear also has a car service that will take you into Park City and the surrounding area, and will pick you up as well. The service at the front desk, as well as the rest of the staff, is first class. If you are thinking about staying at Deer Valley, you have a lot of choices. However, when it’s all said and done, the Black Bear is the best bang for your buck. No...
