We had a great ski vacation at The Stein. The Stein is a little older than some of the lodges and resorts in the area but has an old world charm. The service is impeccable and the location is blue chip.
Accommodations: We stayed for a week in 119 1-3 which is a combination of three lock out accommodations. 119-1 is the main suite comprising a large mountain view bedroom with a large en-suite bath, vanity area and closets. All the baths have heated floors. The primary bath shower has a steam unit but it was not working as the bath was just renovated and I guess the contractor had not finished setting it up but as you will see with Stein Service, facilities set us all up with day passes to the spa for the rest of our stay which got us access to the dry & wet saunas, cold plunge, whirlpool etc. Great for after work outs at the fitness center which is free to guests. The bedroom enjoys a balcony with hot tub. The living room is quite large with 8 foot tall windows and a stone gas fireplace. The kitchen has a long granite island that seats five There is also a dining area with a round top that seats 6 and a powder room. There is also a small sitting area next to the kitchen island for watching the sun sets. The floors are hardwood. A little scratched up but expected for a ski lodge. The furnishings are quite nice. A huge leather sectional and a couple of upholstered chairs outfit the living area plus about a 50 inch tv for watching the games. 119-2 and 119-3 open up to the shared foyer. We just left the main door to 119-1 open all the time so that it felt more like a home and not separate units. 119-2 is on the very corner of the building and enjoys lots of glass windows. It also has a balcony and a hot tub plus a gas fireplace. Of course an en-suite bath. 119-3 is on the road side and looks out to the drive up to the main entrance of the lodge. No balcony but a large room with sitting area, gas fireplace and en-suite bath. Next time I would request a residence in the actual lodge.
Service: First class from the door men to the folks who run the ski locker. The door men whisk away your luggage and make sure that your ski equipment gets put away in your personal lockers slope side. There is always a hand when you need it. Make a call and someone is there in minutes. Lynette, our concierge, was great. She made wonderful off site dinner reservations at Riverhorse and Shabu both of which exceeded expectations. The guys in the ski locker would have your skis out side ready to hop into before you could ever get your boots on and they will gladly assist helping you with your boots although we never took them up on it. Everyone is always smiling and and asking they could do anything for you.
Dining: Make sure you get the breakfast package otherwise it is $25 pp. So good! The buffet is out of this world with just about anything you could ask for from smoked salmon to eggs Benedict, greek yogurt, fruits of all kind, prosciutto ham and on and on. Just walk in with your ski clothes on, enjoy a hearty breakfast and then slip down to the ski locker, get your boots on and ski right out. The skier's lunch buffet is popular among all the skiers at Deer Valley so make reservations. You get preferential treatment when staying at the Stein. Everyone else is walk in only. Crab legs, shrimp, smoked oysters, carving stations, daily special cooking stations like Philly cheese steaks or stir fry. You have to be careful or you'll need a nap apres lunch. And ask for slippers at the hostess stand. We had dinner one night for our daughter's birthday and really ran up the bill with great dishes and wonderful wines. It was fantastic. The elk tenderloin is out of this world as were the scallops. Two restaurants are side by side. The Glitretend and Troll Hollen. Troll Hollen has more of a bar menu while next door Glitretend has a more extensive menu and the buffets.

Read moreI’ve stayed twice at This hotel, once for a couples getaway in 2020 and one recently in 2023 with a baby, both in the summer season.
Pros: views are amazing, great landscaping, great customer service on site. The food at their top tier restaurant is amazing. Get the octopus. Tall cushy bed - almost too tall. Apples at the front reception areas were my toddlers fan favorite. Hike to Bloods Lake is worth the effort.
Cons: I don’t know if they went downhill, they were just better in Covid, or what.
The first time we were in an amazing room, modern and updated. Peaceful.
This last room? Outdated. I get the outdoor rustic thing - I do, but I mean old and broken.
Beautiful modern bathtub but the first night I had to hold my foot on the drain for it to hold water - they fixed promptly afterward late in the evening interrupting my family time.
We had a jacuzzi on the balcony. When turned on, starts bubbling. Like the jets are creating bubbles from either cleaner or whatever the last person put in the water. Then the filter is broken and this these two large plastic pieces keep floating up into the water. Maintenance fixes this while here late at night.
Behind the bathtub has conditioner bottle and wasn’t cleaned from the previous person.
This is my first night. Instead of relaxing, I have broken and people coming in to fix.
As previously mentioned, they keep the temps kinda warm, so we opened the door to get sweet mountain air in. First, the screen door is completely off track and not in a way I can fix - I’m so over calling for engineers at this point.
This is great night one, the next day? Wow. The have a party directly under our balcony roasting several whole pigs and lambs. Like, smoke everywhere, party noises till late, and I’m glad my daughter is young because all of little Bo peep’s sheep’s are roasting head and legs and all right in view. My eyes and my toddlers were burning from all the smoke. My fiancé is a cancer surgeon on a rare 2 day get away and needless to say this health issue sent him over the edge. Nor did the door seal enough to keep the smoke out
We vacated the room, forced out by smoke till the party was over. Came back to large fans blowing the smoke around the room. Because that’s relaxing. Not the Dyson air filter kind… not with the door open blowing the air out… just big fans blowing the air around hoping the air intake sucks it in and the filter isn’t cheep and might filter the smoke out.
Room still smelled like a smoker. So “no smoking” anywhere at the hotel unless it’s baby lamb and they’re doing it.
Then the food at the lower tier food place? Greasy, waaaay overpriced, dried out and gross. How can something be greasy AND friend out? Their ranch was good. $30 a piece for dry greasy stadium style food. We would have just eaten out each time at local restaurants but they are a decent drive away. Nice restaurant food outside the resort per person cost less. A lot less.
Needless to say I don’t mind all this at some $150 night mass hotel, but our room was like $1k a night! Fix it before I arrive. Don’t smoke me out. There is a whole outdoor massive dining area away from open balconies. Smoke the whole pigs there.
I realize you have a convention “MasterClass” of top sales people that need entertaining but they did so at the expense of...

The staff treats every guest like a celebrity.
When you stay here, each member of the staff addresses you by name, and goes above and beyond to assure that you are comfortable, relaxed, and happy.
The suites are absolutely luxurious, and gorgeous. They are very spacious, with very high vaulted ceilings. The master bedroom has a fireplace, and a huge private bathroom with waterfall showers, and a large sitting room with lots of room for more than one person to do hair and makeup, etc. The suites have private wrap around deck/balcony with tables and chairs, and a hot tub. Nestled in the beautiful Utah mountains, it feels like you're floating in the clouds. During the warmer seasons, sitting outside on the balcony is heaven. We especially enjoy sitting out on the balcony early in the morning, in our fluffy, soft, Stein Eriksen provided robes and slippers, drinking the delicious house roasted coffee, and enjoying a wonderful, delicious breakfast with our children. Whether you stay in your suite, and prepare your own meals, or you order room service, eating out on the balcony as a family is an incredible experience. There is an in lodge restaurant that is amazing. You really cannot go wrong when having a meal there. They also have an extensive wine list, and if you're not sure about which wine to pair with your meal, the chef is always more than happy to recommend one for you.
There are swimming pools and hot tubs on the lodge grounds. The grounds are beautiful, and meticulously taken care of. Stein Eriksen Lodge has the feeling of an authentic Swiss chalet.
There are several shops inside of the Lodge that sell everything from clothing, to souvenirs.
If you would like to see what the lodge, and suites look like, visit the Stein Eriksen Lodge website.
The website also offers the full menu of the restaurant inside of the Lodge.
I recommend visiting The Stein Eriksen Lodge for Mother's day, Father's day, Thanksgiving, and especially Christmas. Christmas time at the lodge is absolutely magical. The kiddos will love it!!
I highly recommend visiting The Stein Eriksen Lodge at least once in your life. You won't...
