Edit: Brodi the general manager and Sabrina was absolutely amazing and helpful. They made things right and were about to more then satisfy and make up for the inconveniences. Thank you to them for the promt action once brought to there attention. I wasn’t going to write anything until our visit was completely over to see if anything would be addressed, changed or fixed but as of this moment it has not. I traveled here with my partner and my 2 kids, a 6 hour drive away. I have a toddler and a newborn so they are little. Upon arrival the staff that checked me in was nice. This hotel is right off the freeway and that’s convenient. There in a remodel or something happening so there’s materials all over the place and carpet raised which imposed a tripping hazard. The room was nice and clean. It had a balcony attached which was nice aswell. It was 90 outside so it was hot, around 7 ish the ac stopped wanting to work. It started to blow hot air. We tried everything fast forward to 10 it just got unbearable in our room. I called front desk they promptly sent someone up to check it. The person that came up was incredibly nice but she did exactly what we did and it honestly made it even hotter because we had to let it run like that for 30 minutes to show it wasn’t working! It was 75 degrees outside and once they realized it couldn’t be fixed they brought us a fan and said to open the windows and that’s all they could do till maintenance got here at 8am, I’m sorry but our room temp inside was 80+ degrees I had to undress my children to diaper and watch them close the whole night, we aren’t even used to this type of heat. We woke up feeling exhausted, sick, over heated, it was until 9am that they finally came up. And when they called to confirm that could come in, I expressed my frustration and was told as long as I check out before 11 today they will refund me for tonight’s stay😒 like in reality I should be refunded for last nights stay weather we stay or not. It was absolutely miserable. The maintenance came and finally worked on it and ac is blowing cold now but what about last night? We just have to deal with this as if nothing happened? I feel like they didn’t honestly do what they could’ve or make it right. I’m not even this time of person I’m one of the most laid back Christian moms there probably is. But I am frustrated and after driving a 6 hour drive that was insane we had plans for today and now don’t wanna do anything cause we’re so tired from last night. I definitely think things could’ve been dealt with differently, and then for breakfast unfortunately it was a very light serving. Wet scrambled eggs bacon and potatoes, and then cereal. It’s okay, I just guess had higher expectations, this hotel looks like a damn castle lol, so having better options and breakfast coming from hotels that are much much worse was a bad assumption I guess. But anyways that’s why...
Read moreI have been staying at Red Lion Hotels for thirty-plus years. Trust me. Go look up my other reviews of Red Lion Hotels. I’ll wait.
I last stayed at this property in the mid-2000s. It was still one of those old-fashioned Red Lions. Massive footprint, old school style, struggling to maintain that PNW vibe while other major, often international chains, were eating their lunch. At that time, this was still a great representation of the Red Lion brand.
Here’s the thing: this property still is, for the most part. Putting aside the remodeling garbage in the Section C entry, you felt like you were stepping back in time, while not worrying about the present. First thing, the receptionist was great. In that huge lobby, she was standing behind the desk with a smile and a quick wit. Easy check-in. Second, rooms had the feel of the last remodel before Red Lion went south: fabricated plank flooring, no coffee pots, nice bedding, and Cascadia branded shower mats and toiletries. Pause on that. They had all of the Cascadia branded stuff, which was the last push of the then-CEO before Red Lion merged with lower-tier brands (America’s Best, etc.), then shifted to a “property light, franchise high” format, started selling off their legacy properties to a bunch of no name, often international, slum lords, then moved their corporate out of Spokane, then finally became Sonesta (which sounds like a sleeping aid/budget cruise line). Third, the hotel has working security doors. It has great outdoor lighting for both patios and the parking lot. Fourth, it is in a great location. It is right next door to the college and close enough to the “world class” offerings of the Tri-Cities (there is a bit of sarcasm in that comment). Do I think the cost is a bit high? Sure. But the cost to stay at a hotel is high everywhere these days.
I am not sure who owns this hotel. I am not sure if the Columbia Center property, also once a gem in the catalog, is doing as well. But whoever owns this one is trying to keep the Red Lion legacy alive. The Red Lion in Kelso? A security risk. Jantzen Beach? Rebranded. Vancouver? Demolished. Sacramento? Gone. Spokane? Sold off and doing better. Post Falls and Redding? Also keeping the brand alive.
Thing is, as a stand-alone property, this hotel deserves praise. And I recommend it. Thanks for making my present stay feel like I was almost experiencing what it was like...
Read moreThe girl at the reception desk wasn't wearing a mask when we checked in. She had it below her nose a while later. Like that's doing any good.
The refrigerator was not working in our room. There is NO housekeeping on Saturday night. I went to ask this particular girl at the front desk if we could please have a working refrigerator, as we had perishables. She looked like asking the manager was totally scary. 90 minutes later, still nothing. No word.
I went back down to the front desk. That girl was gone and apparently had not mentioned our request to anyone. I spoke to the hotel manager. He was really nice and receptive to getting us a working fridge and another chair. BTW, there was one swivel chair in the room. We are old people, it's uncomfortable to sit on the edge of a taller bed. A club chair is essential in every room.
He showed up in under 10 minutes, with a chair and a larger refrigerator. He checked the plugs, figured out the problem. (The little fridge really didn't work). We really appreciate his going the second mile to help us.
There was plenty of hot water in the showers and the room was clean. The bed was very comfortable. It was fun to have a balcony we could actually step out onto, and large windows to see the sunset.
The bar served a very good vegetarian pizza, and it wasn't stingy on the veggies. However, be warned. The tomato sauce is overly spicy. Everything else was tasty. They serve Mac&Jax beer for those who like good beer.
The breakfast buffet is included with the price of the room. It's a real buffet! The biscuits and gravy, and eggs were nice. The oatmeal wasn't that good. They also had a variety of bread, yogurt, and fruit cocktail, as well as coffee, apple, and orange juice.
The hotel is older but still kept up. They have a gigantic parking lot, which is helpful when you have a moving truck.
Overall, it's a...
