If you’re looking for a hotel with unsanitary conditions, out-of-control guests, and a negligent security team that does nothing to ensure your safety, Cambria Hotel Philadelphia is the place for you.
Shortly after checking in after a late work day, I laid my head down next to the heavily stained build in bed board over the bed. Then a party started in the room next door—so loud that my lightbulbs and hangers in my room were shaking. Since I was in town for a work assignment, I wanted to get some rest and requested a room change but was told none were available. The front desk sent security to request the music be turned down but their intervention was ineffective.
The music stayed loud, the party continued, and I started experiencing direct harassment. People hanging out in the hall tapped on my door, laughed about not knowing “who lives here,” and when I opened my door to ask why they were tapping, I was greeted by the person standing directly in front of me smoking a cigarette, which explained the foul smell wafting in all night. After multiple calls to the front desk, security made repeated weak attempts to control the situation, but the party only escalated.
At one point, a man from the party knocked on my door. When I told him to leave me alone, the next-door guests seemed to retaliate—asking the hosts to crank the music volume to max, shouting in their room for me to "wake the f up" and about how they're going to keep the party going all night long. Two more men from the party talking about how drunk they were came to my door, knocking, attempting to look through the peep hole, trying to listen into my room, and lingering in front for several minutes waiting for me to come out. I called the desk and the security caught them in the act in front of my door, and did nothing but warn them that if they don’t quiet down, “they (me, maybe the desk) might call management”. No firm action was taken, there was no attempt by security at having them stop. I felt completely unsafe in my own room knowing they weren’t deterred from harassing me.
Security then brought the room owner to the lobby, then the room owner came up and told their friends the desk told them the party guests had to leave in 5 minutes. However, the party never stopped and there was no follow through from the hotel after that.
About 45 minutes later, I overheard people outside my door talking about me as “the opposition” and saying “next time she calls—” followed by the other saying “there won’t be a next time.” That was enough—I was scared for my safety and called a friend to pick come me up. I checked out in the early hours of the morning.
At checkout, the front desk staff (two women doing the evening and then subsequent overnight shift) were the only kind and sympathetic people I encountered. The overnight desk rep got a woman named Cinquetta on the phone; who authorized the third-party booking site to cancel the charge (which didn't seem to work as I was just charged today anyway). The desk rep also expressed confusion to Cinquetta about why security didn't bring in the police that were patrolling outside.
As I was leaving, I was given Cinquetta’s email address but was also told that I would be contacted first thing in the morning. Now more than 36 hrs later, nobody has called me, the corporate contact form I submitted was never answered, and my email to Cin bounced back as it turns out I was given an incorrect email address.
The lack of security, intervention, and basic guest safety at this hotel is appalling. After checking out, I saw multiple reviews stating that new guests checking in were given room keys to already occupied rooms—what if these men had been given access to my room? Stay here at your own risk, it may end up becoming a genuine risk to your safety.
I do not want to hear “come stay with us again on the house and let us make it right”. Me and anyone else who has gone through this would have to be out of their right mind to put their trust in this hotel again. Just search these reviews using the search keyword...
Read moreI booked 4 rooms (within a wedding block so we had a special rate) for 7-May to 9-May. I checked out and was told receipts would be mailed. I have only received receipts for two rooms. When I checked my charge card i was charged for 5 rooms. I called the hotel (10-May) an spoke to the frot desk. One room charge thatvwas on my card (I have no receipt yet) was for one of the rooms we were given but was not the block rate. In discussing this with the employee on the phone (front desk) she said that was the rate plus tax. I said we were moved into that room when our original room bathroom lights did not work. Engineering said it could not be fixed quickly so we had to change rooms. - I should NOT be paying more than my guaranteed block price. I had a handicap ♿️ suite that I am also missing a receipt for. The price the person on the phone says I was billed is no where even close to what is on my charge. Then she said she does not see a fifth charge- which i have on my card. I asked to talk to a manager and was told no managers are on - on the weekend!
My wife is handicapped and in a wheelchair- this hotel does not have a ramp or any accommodation to get onto the sidewalk when pulling into valet. This is a ADA requirement!! In fact the curb was so high that when lifting the wheelchair, a leg rest hit the curb and snapped. I spent the morning of May 8th driving around Philadelphia to purchase a new wheelchair (they dont sell just leg rests).
We ordered room service, 3 orders total. 1- french toast with sausage and extra syrup, coffee. 2- scrambled eggs with english muffin, and container of milk. 3- omelet, rye toast and coffee. When the food came i was handed a brown bag (no way close to room service). I asked if there was ketchup in the bag- the attendant said she did not know, she didn't pack the bag but would bring some up. While waiting for the ketchup, I unpacked the bag. The food was correct BUT- I ordered 2 coffees only received one. I ordered extra syrup - which i got charged $6.00 for but on received 2 small syrup packets- so I assume I was with the order- 1 was the $6 extra. TOTAL ROBBERY. There was no butter or jam/jelly for the rye toast or English muffin. Now the best I ordered 3 meals and given plastic utensils for 2. Total cost for breakfast $98.00 - total robbery.
Monday I will contact the hotel manger to straighten out the charges or i will notify the credit card company of the erroneous...
Read moreAt check in I was over charged and the hotel never realized their mistake until I called questioning the charges after looking at my bank statement. I was told they believed I was charged twice for incidentals and that I would receive a call back in 10 minutes from the manager to confirm and resolve this issue. No one called after 40 minutes, so I walked back to the hotel to speak to the manager in person which was a huge inconvenience. When I get there and ask for the manager, the girl behind the desk with bright red hair seemed confused so I started to explain the situation and she giggled and said “oh yeah, that was me you talked to” and then proceeds to tell me he never called her back. She then rushed to another room and I don’t think she ever called him in the first place because after waiting another 10 minutes, she informs me he’s not even there and left a while ago! Surely she would have known this an hour ago if she had called him, no? She then tells me it is most likely a double charge and that their system does this frequently to people and charges them the incidental fee twice. She says me that the manager will be here in the morning to speak to when I check out. Fast forward to check out, I ask to speak to the manager and they said he isn’t there and doesn’t come in until 1 on Sundays! Check out ends at 11 so he never would have been here by the time I was leaving and I was once again misinformed. The woman checking us out was nice and took our information and she also told us that their system does this often to clients and that the manager will call me when he is in at 1. It is now well past 1 and I have yet to ever hear from this manager. The issue at this point is not even the double charge anymore but the lack of accountability and communication within their team. Do not promise something to guests multiple times and then consistently fall short… I expect much more from a hotel of this quality.
UPDATE: I was NEVER called by the manager and was not correctly reimbursed for the “accidental double charge of incidentals”. When I called to speak to the manager, once again the manager was not in!! Had to call the corporate headquarters to finally try and get my money back and actually got somewhere. Don’t waste...
