Merriam Theater—now known as Miller Theater (hopefully that alleviates confusion for some)—is a decent theater in a great location. Besides some particular issues, I had a great time.
I saw a comedy show here and the place was fairly packed. Located just a few blocks from city hall on broad street, this place is a very short walk from DOZENS of parking locations (all of which typically have vacancy to some degree). You can expect to pay about $15-25 for parking at most places.
At the theater's entry, there was some very professional staff allowing people into the building, scanning tickets, and directing attendees to their seats. The lobby is quite cramped, but the staff was experienced and could make do. The entire building is a bit labyrinthian and I half expected to find a minotaur somewhere amongst the halls. [Note for performers: there was only single-side crowd-to-stage access via stairs on the stage-right side]
On my quest to seek a minotaur, I went looking for the restrooms. The men's restrooms were AT THE BOTTOM of a hefty set of stairs, and were fairly unclean and had at least one out-of-order toilet stall. (This experience is what gives this place 4 instead of 5 stars for me)
Beyond the restrooms, the theater seats are a bit tight, cramped, and a little bit uncomfortable (as many of these old theaters are) but they serve their purpose relatively well. The whole space could use an update, but the ornate architectural detailing is quite beautiful.
If you're a larger person, you may find it a bit difficult to squeeze between the rows, but the seats themselves are relatively wide :)
In the end, however, you likely can't choose your venues as a viewer/attendee... so just...
Read moreThis was my second time returning to the Miller Theather for an amazing show. This time it was Cirque Dreams Holidaze. The Miller Theater always has great shows and performances. But that is not the best part. My favorite part about this theater is the architecture. I absolutely love looking around at all the detail that went into the theater. Another aspect I really like about this theather is that upon entry to the theater, it is a fairly smaller theater, so getting to your seats is quick and easy.
Both times I have been here, I have sat in the orchestra area; however, due to its smaller size, you'll get a great view of the stage from any area. The attendants are also really great here. Each one greets you warmly and provides you assistance with finding your seats quickly and easily.
The only concern I have with this theater is the seating itself. The seats are not the most comfortable and could definitely use some upgrading at some point. They appear to be quite worn and do not provide support. It does make the theater have an elementary type feel. However, this will not stop me from returning for upcoming shows. I truly look forward to returning later in...
Read moreSeveral things disrupted our experience of last nights show, Shen Yun. First, was that the ushers allowed latecomers to be seated in the center of our row during the prettiest dance with the long flowing sleeves and we missed a large chunk of it, as well as I’m sure the people behind us, as everyone needed to get up and exit the row to seat two people. They should not allow those who are this late to interrupt everyone they should wait until they are between acts or dances. Second was the two people behind us who obviously smoked a LOT of pot before coming in to the theater and were not only smelly but talked through the entire show. Lastly was someone from the production actually tried to jump over my mother and myself and the two women next to us to get to a very old man who was recording the dance with his phone. I told them to wait and let us at least stand up before smashing into our legs! He was adamant about stopping this man and once again we missed a whole portion of the dance because of this interruption. We spent hundreds of dollars to see this show and the theater should handle things differently especially knowing that the seats are so...
