Okay people, some people have one issue and leave a bad comments just because. I am calm and being honest mainly because my dog is treated with Revolution, a good quality flea tick heartworm Etc ointment. This place is full of fleas. This place is full of gnats. This place is full of flies ( anywhere this can happen and gnats I supposed) also, dogs are allowed to stay as well as other pets per guidelines. However, I'm in a room that is not a typical room that allows pets. My dog is a service dog, for my Anxiety Disorder. However, flies, fleas, gnats, and shockingly a tick. I warm food up in microwave and notice small cockroaches underneath rotation tray climbing the sides of unit. Small refrigerator / freezer has sticky red liquid everywhere. Remote control had so much oil I had to wash it down with a wet wipe. Beware, I know most people never do, maybe small children might, walk on the floor with no shoes and only socks or Barefoot because of the swimming pool. I used wet wipes to wash a square section of floor the size of my 12-pound dog's crate. Just so she does not get filthy. These are not aftermarket wipes, Huggies, Blackness came through my hand. I used 6 wipes in one area and went to CVS for disinfectant spray. I know Red Roof Inn is not high class nor expected to be. The cost was 70 something dollars. I just expect a room that is not swarming with insects. I'm not a nagging Nancy or a complainer. Not normally. I'm not exaggerating at all. I'm probably giving them too much credit when I say the rest of the room was decent and as far as I know, clean bedding. Shower was beyond nasty. Nice parking lot. A larger pool than most Red Roof Inns I've stayed at. To backtrack, first negative review I given the chain. It's hard to find trash cans nowadays at locations, this place has them available, not hidden or running out to a dumpster. Front desk is very nice. Vending and ice machine. I'd suggest buying ice in a bag from gas station. Most ice machines, Motel, hotels, even gas stations, do not regularly clean that ice machine area. The insides of these units have strips and vents that grow mold. I have a friend that works at a large chain gas station and has said they have not cleaned in there since he worked there. 4 years now. Off-topic. More or less, bring wet wipes or Lysol wipes or some type of spray disinfectant. Try to spray down shower best as possible. Wipe down areas like alarm clocks door knobs light switches sink knobs microwave handles since they hold bacteria and MRSA or a staph infection would not be fun while on vacation. There is enough things here to eat your flesh already... always keep shoes or sandals on and don't what's your towels touch the floor. One good thing, I have not heard carts being pushed in the middle of the night or early morning loud knocking banging talking screaming on this visit. Five stars in this area. You never know who will be staying while you are visiting but at least you don't have to worry about wild staff wildcards and banging on Doors. Take advantage of your do not disturb sign for better comfort. I wouldn't recommend staying here though. However, Red Roof Inn looks a lot better then the other five or six small motels lining the area. A nice place to take your kids in swim though. Or a dip yourself. It seems as if you can stay in the pool and pool area longer than most locations or they don't bother saying anything to you....
Read moreHeed my warning, weary traveler!
I found myself stuck in this fleabag motel for a couple of nights this month. As a frequent traveler who spends 50-100 nights a year away from home, I can unequivocally say that this is the worst place in the country.
You see, the management is using this property for low-income housing. What you get is a busy place, filled to the brim with people that range from weird to downright scary, who all have been there for many months and know the place much better than you.
From actual crack pipes in the parking lot, to women sitting on the pavement smoking while their numerous children run around out of control, from police siren in the middle of the night, to motel staff using marijuana in the middle of the day right in front of you, this place is the definition of a ghetto.
My first night here. At 2:30 AM the room phone rang. I woke up and picked it up, only to listen to incoherent grunts on the other end of the line. An hour later, at 3:30 AM, somebody started pounding on my door, yelling “it’s me, let me in!” As a solo female traveler, this didn’t feel safe and made me stay up the rest of the night. Around 5:30 AM I heard police sirens right outside.
First thing I was greeted with in the morning when I went out of the room was an obvious alcoholic asking me to “help him get some food”. I was approached by two other people during that day, one asking for money, another asking for cigarettes. I observed several cars coming and going, stopping in the parking lot to drop off small packages into hands of people waiting for them. I’m sure I was looking at drug dealers.
Back to hotel staff smoking weed. That morning I saw a cleaner standing by her cart in front of a room’s open door, enjoying a joint. The fact that the smoke blew into the room she just supposedly finished cleaning, as well as several doors up and down the building, didn’t seem to concern her.
Speaking of cleaning. The only way COVID has affected this property’s policies is the fact they don’t clean your room during your stay. You’re invited to swim in your own garbage and use the same towels over and over. I was appalled that the room was dirty, layers of dust everywhere, dirty TV remote, sticky phone, dirty mirror and toilet. My white socks turned jet black within minutes of attempting to walk on that floor. Housekeeping is too busy smoking weed to do a passable job on cleaning rooms.
You’d imagine staying at the ghetto you’d pay ghetto prices? No, not at all. All this pleasure is brought to you at $80 a night!
The worst part is that when you book online, as 99.9% of travelers do, you are given no warning. Nobody tells you this is the projects. You’re lured in by the average price tag for the area and the promise of a familiar brand. By the time you get there, they know you have no backup and are stuck, unless you want to sleep on the street.
I am a Red Roof member, but I will definitely be reviewing my brand loyalty going forward. There are plenty of other chains that provide a better experience. In fact, anything would be better than this sorry excuse for decent lodging.
I am absolutely appalled at Red Roof not warning people who book that they house marginal and even criminal elements long term on...
Read moreSaturday night, February 19, 2022, my husband and I, along with four other people booked rooms at Red Roof Inn located in Saint Petersburg, Florida (4999 34th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33714). We booked this room with no expectations for a luxurious, top of the line experience. Our intent on booking with Red Roof Inn was to have a nice, clean room, that we could return to that night.
The room was booked earlier that week, and my husband also called the location to inquire on if our room, along with the two other rooms booked in our party, could be placed next to each other. The company understood the six of us (three rooms total) would be arriving Saturday afternoon. When we arrived 2/19 (closer to 5:30pm)- it was quite a shock to hear that they had no rooms available and that they were now "over booked." We spent close to an hour and a half calling multiple hotels in the area with no luck of finding another room. Every single hotel in the area was completely booked, and at that point we were having to consider sleeping in our vehicles unless Red Roof Inn could make something work. A couple hours later, some of our party began walking the premises to find several vacant rooms which were dirty (but noticeable vacant). When this was brought to the management’s attention, they miraculously were able to provide all six of us a room. The overall check in took about two hours.
I'll start with the room that my husband and I had which was supposed to be a non-smoking room. The room reeked of cigarette smoke, there were cigarette burn holes in the side of the tub, the tub was extremely dirty, mold in the tub, bathroom light wouldn’t work, no towels, no toilet paper, and no batteries in the remote. I was honestly scared to even put my feet on the ground with how disgusting this room was.
One of the other rooms- same level of uncleanliness, along with black mold on their ceiling. Also reeked of cigarette smoke. This couple reported having bug bites all over their bodies after their stay, which required medical attention.
The third room we had was also the same level of uncleanliness, but to add, there was blood on their sheets (Yes, I said blood).
I am extremely disgusted in Red Roof Inn after this experience, and I will never book another room with this company, or at least that location. Having mold and blood in our rooms was extremely unacceptable. Furthermore, the staff were extremely unprofessional (walking around in their pajamas and slippers while assisting customers) and were very irritable with not only us, but the lobby full of customers told their rooms were overbooked, only to find out they simply didn't want to clean any of the vacant rooms. The level of rudeness that was directed towards us was unacceptable.
The lack of professionalism of the staff and customer care provided that night was by far the worst I have ever...
