Mixed Experience at Mi Carreta Restaurant & Bakery– A Taste of Colombia with Room for Improvement I recently visited Mi Carreta Restaurant & Bakery in St. Petersburg Fl., eager to enjoy some authentic Colombian cuisine. While the food offered a glimpse of Colombian flavors, several aspects of my dining experience left much to be desired. Food: Solid but Not Outstanding The dishes we tried, including the Bandeja Paisa and Picada Carreta, were decent in taste. The portions were generous, and the flavors were authentic. However, nothing stood out as exceptional, and some items lacked the depth of flavor I had hoped for.TheFoodMenus+1MenuXP+1Trustburn Entertainment: Disappointing Live Music A live singer was performing during our visit, but unfortunately, the performance did not enhance the dining experience. The music was loud and not to my taste, which detracted from the overall ambiance. Atmosphere: Noisy and Overcrowded The restaurant was quite loud, making conversation difficult. The space felt cramped, and the noise level was high, which made it challenging to enjoy the meal comfortably. Service: Slow and Inattentive Service was notably slow, with long waits between courses. At times, I felt ignored, as staff seemed preoccupied and not attentive to our table. This lack of attention impacted the overall dining experience. Additional Charges: Convenience Fee Concerns I was surprised to find a 3.99% "convenience fee" added to my bill. While such fees are becoming more common, it's important for restaurants to clearly disclose them upfront. In Florida, there are no specific laws prohibiting such fees, but transparency is key to maintaining customer trust. Conclusion: Potential with Improvements Needed Mi Carreta offers a taste of Colombian cuisine in St. Petersburg, Fl, but several areas need attention. Improving service speed, managing noise levels, and ensuring transparency with additional charges could enhance the dining experience. With some adjustments, Mi Carreta has the potential to become a standout spot for Colombian food...
Read moreI visited this restaurant on August 7, 2021 at 2PM with my wife and 2 young kids. I am white American man and my wife is Colombian. Many times I get bad service in a Colombia restaurant because the Colombian employees do not like to see a white American man married with a Colombian woman. This restaurant took it to the extreme. From the moment I entered this restaurant something was not right. We were looked at very badly by the staff. Many tables were available and the host was not in a hurry to sit us. It took nearly 15 mins for somebody to attend us and give us a table. When we sat at our table, nobody came to see us for 20 minutes. Many other customers arrived in the restaurant were seated promptly and were then attended by a waiter or waitress right away. We had to stop a waiter to be able to get our an order in. Many of the customers who arrived after us, got their food and their drinks within 10-15 minutes. It took more than 20 mins to get our drinks and also our appetizers but not all the appetizers we ordered. One of them came 30 minutes later. We then waited more than one hour without getting our main courses and we kept seeing more customers who arrived after us and kept getting their food but no food in sight for us. We waited and waited and nothing happened. None of the employees tried to help us. We decided to leave and complained to the manager. She had nothing to say other than their system was broken. This was such a lie because everybody was getting their food but not us. My wife told them that they had discriminated against us because I was a white man with a Colombian woman. We told them that it was not right to make kids wait like this for food, our kids were very hungry. Not only they treated us really badly but they did not treat my kids well by making them wait like this. The manager had nothing to say. She did not apologized and she did not care. Do not support this restaurant. If you are white and your spouse or girlfriend is Colombian woman, do not go. What they did to our kids was...
Read moreMy family and I had dinner at this restaurant last night. Upon entering we noticed the 'one man' live music was really good! However, it was ridiculously loud!!! I got the idea he thought it was all about him. He was asked to turn it down. He did but soon turned it up again. It was the volume of a bar setting. We were sat immediately. Our drink order was taken right away. The sangria was awesome! The waitress soon took our order. We waited nearly an hour for our appetizers. The waitress said they had a party of 50 people, but there was only about a quarter occupancy in the restaurant. No parties. In total we waited an hour and 15 minutes for our dinner. The food came out in increments. The food wasn't even hot anymore after everything came out. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen, but it appeared they weren't organized at all. If they knew they had a party outside of the restaurant, then they should've planned for it. Perhaps with more help in the kitchen. Everybody in the restaurant had to wait just like we did. I asked to see the owner or manager three times. He never showed. I didn't appreciate that at all! I ordered the shrimp and fish in garlic sauce, which was 'out of this world' good! My wife and one of my sons ordered fajitas. They said they were 'just ok'. My other son had the hamburger and said it was one of the best he's had. You've got really good food. Get the rest of it together if you want to fill those seats. Until then, we...
