([Response to owner] It's not rocket science, if we buy three drinks? but not each shift? but on 1st or 2nd shift. You want more because we didn't buy on that say 3rd shift specifically. Three shifts means three drinks, no more no less. Not "Oh shift change, okay give us more money" regardless of amount of products we buy prior. So in response? I'll just only buy one per shift because it's not worth spending more on one if I have to pay for every shift. Furthermore, I may not have the best spelling or grammar? But I'm certified in my soft skill by the state of Florida and endorsed by the national work readiness council as having good problem solving and communication skills. No one's fool me in this situation. The girl i was with was paying for both us. Already degrading as a man. But after all those drinks ? All that money? Your servers "not the owner" have been pressuring her to buy more, regardless of how much she buys. When sehs already paying for two people. Because the purpose is "to chill here for the day" they know shell just fork over more money to not get kicked out. Rather then the server being reasonable. My point? Is that the drink per shift rule should only apply to patrons obviously trying to slide by on one drink, not patrons that are clearly buying multiple things but are on a budget. Its just an easy way for the servers to extort her out of more money. If you really want to enforcethis rule? It needs to be re worked. Drink minimums, in every buisness? Is to keep the broke homless people out from free loading. Not to press your already paying customers for more money as you please. She wasnt even upset. Or understood what they were doing to her. I had to explain it to her that their trying to extort her for more money as a way to levrage us to leave. Basically, give us money AND leave, beacuse its not "enough" money. Ive regulared multipe places. Ive spent 100 of dollars. Ive spent 5 bucks before, your regulars? Are people. Not wallets) Has a buy in per shift policy, basically meaning you could buy 100 dollars worth of product during the first shift, but if you forget to save enough for the following shift ? They'll ask you to leave. Not due to lack of seating either, they're not at max cap. Not even close. So its purely, pay me specifically or we will pressure you to leave. Put patrons in a position of feel less like their playing to enjoy their time, more so keep paying "or else". You can be here, "if you spend enough money" there is no minimum. It's use to be one drink? Now its one drink per shift. It's a way to pressure your patrons out of more money because you want more money, not because their not paying to be here lets be honest. It's also fairly discriminatory because depending on the server ? Their friends do not get that kind of treatment. All this tells me? Is instead of tipping y'all? we'll just use that money to pay for each buy in. If you have three shifts ? That's 3 buy ins for a full day and you withhold the right to service if say we spend all our money on first two shifts and forget to save some for the 3rd. Conclusion? They change the rules at their own discretion, changing not the prices themselves, but the "amount you must buy" to satisfy themselves that you paid enough to be here. If I go to Starbucks ? It's one thing, and I get all day, no hassle. So why tip people that give me a hard time about the amount that we buy when we are here. I save that exclusively for the servers that don't complain because specific patrons haven't bought from you specifically during your shift and you feel entitled to more tips. Seeing how you just started your shift? Fine, well buy more products since you're forcing us to, but you won't be getting a tip for last minute rule changes. Enjoy the review, all this taught me is don't tip my servers anymore to pay for more buy-ins. Enjoy the review and the lack of tips, we will most definitely be fine with this rule change. Means more products, and less giving you free money for poor service. Thank you actually, enjoy the boost in...
Read moreI am a frequent flyer, I've been going to Mad Hatters for about a decade now, regularly, and while my personal bias may skew in favor; I hope to show why I enjoy Mad Hatters. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope everyone has a fantastic day.
I live in Bradenton, FL and I drive at least 50 minutes over the Skyway bridge ($3 in tolls, to and from total) to get to Mad Hatters in St. Petersburg FL. I make this drive 3-5 times a week as I work, study, hangout, contemplate life, etc., while enjoying well brewed tea of the Kratom, Kava, and loose-leaf varieties. With only a single drink order serving as the minimum to be able to hang, use Wi-Fi, talk to friends, etc. This lounge/cafe/ethnobotanical tea bar serves as the linchpin of my social circle. Some-days my tab is less than $10 other nights it might be $100 as it all depends on what I order. If I order my double-sized green (Meang da) Kratom with peach flavor (Monin) then I know I am ordering a $13-$15 (tip estimate included) beverage. If I chug my tea like I am at a frat party on campus then I generally feel no effects until I drink 3 teas, but if I sip on it like I'm a dainty princess at a tea party (pinkys out and all) then I only need 1 double kratom tea. Therefore, the strength of the product is without question, it is there in the well filtered beverage, immaculately mixed with my flavor(s) of choice. Additionally, I don't always get Kratom or Kava, sometimes I get loose-leaf as there are 2-3 dozen options and add in the 30-40+ flavor options the drink combinations just in tea (soda, lemonade of the dirty variety or regular, etc. are offered) becomes an astronomical decision. Moreover, should I find myself hungry in the afternoon I can grab a hibachi dinner at the food truck company outside (multiple options, rice or noodle for the starch with meat and vegan meat option available). Want a snack instead, they roll a buffalo chicken dip eggroll that I cannot get enough of (sizeable - for an eggroll - with 7 other options available). Food aside, I make the drive primarily because of the atmosphere. There is a billiards tournament, Tuesday night at 7 that is a lot of fun, Wednesday nights at 9 is bingo ($10 entry for a 10-game sheet = $1 a game) the money goes to a local community non-profit/charity it is a fantastic cause that Mad Hatters hosts, but the organizers are a separate entity, and prizes are offered in both bingo and billiards. Wonderflow on Saturday night starts at 9 and encompasses a series of fire spinning spectacles, with live music (DJ), and vendors selling wears in the front of the building. Therefore, it can get busy, but still daytime is perfect for study, work, chill game sessions when you don't want to be stuck in the house. Kavatenders Sol, Heather, Natille, Mike, Rodger, Mitchell and David do get busy, but when I give a minute then make my request, I have never been failed at receiving service, even before I was a regular (it's just good practice even at a regular bar). Unless the place is a mad house, under regular conditions, everyone on staff behind the bar asks if I want a refill on my beverage, otherwise on busy nights I do WALK UP TO THE BAR and make a request by grabbing their attention in a polite way. I have always felt genuinely welcomed by everyone including the staff. To the point that Mad Hatters is a home away from home, I've meet amazing people here, life-long friends, this community feels like a family at times and can seem at first impression "tight-knit," but I assure there is absolutely no judgement. Just a hybrid of productivity and relaxation where all are welcome to come as they are. Whether to work or to hangout I make the drive and continue to spend my money here because there is no other place quite like it. I've had a lot of good times at Mad Hatters and never had a bad time. It's worth checking out as there is a little something for everyone, if you're not sure what that is than ask the Kavatender as they all excel at...
Read moreI've been actively working on growing a business through my laptop lately, driving up an hour every weekend from Sarasota county to spend the weekend's in St. Pete. My business partner and myself have been looking for somewhere that would provide a nice balance between the work and trying to relax, that also has wifi and good hours.
Hands down, Mad Hatters is the absolute best establishment I've been to in the state of Florida. There is something here for everyone. I will spend 8-16 hours every weekend getting work done here and enjoying myself.
First the vibes here from everyone are impossible to beat, everyone is always upbeat and it's easy to intermingle here. The bar tenders are easy to get along with and great to talk to. The owner has always been friendly.
As far as entertainment goes, take your pick. You've got an indoor and outdoor area, filled with all different kinds of games and fun. A pool table, dart board, gaming machines, giant connect 4, big Jenga blocks, big chess table, and a ton of other things you can find in any corner of the lounge.
There is always ample amounts of seating, whether you want to hangout or work. It gets busy on the weekends but there's always an event or something similar going on. The music is always good, especially on Saturday nights.
The options for Hookah / Kava / Kratom / Tea / etc. are endless. If you don't like something, theres a hundred other things you probably will like. The green and white mix Kratom is always my go to with an extra shot, combined with a Stoopify Hookah. Every weekend.
If you don't know what Kava is, it's worth reading into. It definitely won't taste like a fruit smoothie, but you're not drinking Kava for it to taste good. The effects are very strong and enjoyable, I'd highly recommend anyone who's interested to try it.
I rant and rave about Mad Hatters to all of my friends, and bring people here whenever I get the chance.
We spend almost every Friday/Saturday night here until 2-4AM in the morning. I will continue to come here every weekend. This is a great place to be, and I'm grateful Mad Hatters exists, it definitely helps to have a place like this to go to when balancing out life while...
