Worst hotel visit I have ever experienced! Made a reservation online through Wyndham for 2 nights. My husband and I decided to stay another night, so he stopped by the front desk on his way to work to pay for one night. We agreed on staying a fourth night. My husband drove me to the front office. After I paid, the receptionist had me sign a receipt. When I got back in the car and told my husband I paid and signed, he stated the receptionist didn't have him sign something the previous day. We thought that was odd, so we looped back around to the front office. The receptionist was already standing in the office doorway. My husband got out of our car and simply asked him what he had me sign after I paid. My husband's a calm person and doesn't like conflict. For some reason, the maintenance man decided to stop what he was working on to invite himself into my husband's conversation. Both the receptionist and the maintenance man started yelling at my husband, saying things like it didn't matter what he had me sign and asking him what we were so worried about. My husband got overwhelmed and got back into the vehicle. They approached my passenger side front tire and started yelling at my husband to "come here" and "get out of the car." My husband didn't know what to do, so I stepped halfway out of the vehicle. I did not fully exit the vehicle, nor did I shut the car door. I then politely asked the men to back away from our vehicle because they were making us very uncomfortable, and they did not have our permission to approach our vehicle. The maintenance man immediately snapped back, saying we needed to check out, and the front desk associate followed with stating he would give us a refund. So my husband went inside to get the refund while I stayed in the car to call customer support. My husband was gone for almost ten minutes, and I already knew they were ganging up on him. My husband said both men were still yelling and verbally attacking him in the lobby. They kept stating I was the reason they were asking us to leave because they didn't understand why I was "acting like that." My husband stated repeatedly that they are two strangers walking up on our personal vehicle without permission showing signs of aggression, and we felt threatened. We have every right to ask them to step away from our vehicle for our comfortability and safety. They eventually understood because the front desk associate made the comment, "If you feel so threatened by us, you probably shouldn't stay another night anyway." The receptionist also admitted to my husband that he was supposed to have him sign a receipt the previous day but didn't. He even threatened my husband, stating he was going to call Wyndham and have our account deactivated. After we got back to our room to pack our belongings, the maintenance man kept pacing the parking lot, watching us load our items into our car. When we drove off, he laughed as he watched us leave. The room itself is awful. Incredibly small, had bad smell in room, thin walls, limited amount of channels to watch on television, the windows are very old and painted shut so you can't get natural air flow, cracks around AC unit leads directly outside and allows bugs to crawl in, no bathroom fan, very short shower head. I'm 5'3" and had to hunch over to rinse my hair. My 6'6" husband had to literally squat to rinse off. There was dried toothpaste from the previous visitor on the toilet paper roll, so I can assume they don't clean thoroughly. Very loose wall outlets. Couldn't keep phones charged because the plug would fall out of the outlet, and on our first night, the fridge unplugged overnight and didn't get cold enough for the remainder of our stay to keep our food from spoiling. The hotel is in a terrible location for food delivery. Tried ordering Doordash, and only four restaurant options were available. McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, and Dunkin' Donuts. We will never stay here again, and we will never recommend this hotel to anyone. Would give negative stars...
Read moreUpon arrival, I was told that my room was unavailable. Already booked. I asked how this was possible, and the clerk/owner had no answer. He kept trying to show me the computer screen as though I did not believe him, when I just wanted answers as to the double booking that is evidently available via the Wyndham Rewards website at this location
We agreed to both check on our respective sides for Wyndham's website as to where the error lay. Regardless of that, we still needed a room, so we opted for a single king, and the owner gave us a cot for the eldest child. This was a kind gesture for him to do, and he could have charged us but didn't due to the inconvenience, and I thanked him as such.
The hotel itself is quite aged and in need of repairs and updating. The rooms smell musty, and the carpets desperately need cleaned or better yet, replaced entirely. The bathroom floors seem cleaner. Not a lot of grime built up in the corners like you see sometimes even in newer places. I'm not thrilled at letting my infant crawl around here. The room is so small that the bed and cot take up most of the floor space, anyway, so we're just staying on the collective bed space with him so he can play without falling off.
There is at least a tiny fridge and working microwave. Still really miffed about the lack of kitchenette, since we're here for 5 days and that was what I paid for. But we've made do with less on plenty of trips. Be prepared to need to run to the nearby grocery several times if you aren't ordering in. (Jimmy John's and apparently Pizza Hut both deliver to this location. )
The bathtub is surprisingly comfortable - angled in the back without an edge gouging into your neck or the back of your head if you lie down. But the tub doesn't hold water. I was able to jury-rig it to hold some, but don't expect a leisurely soak. The water is hot, and doesn't smell or feel weird.
Oddly, the TV is a very new flatscreen, and the channel listing is incredible. So there's that. The power block it's plugged into is from the 60s (not exaggerating - I'm concerned enough to not plug anything else into it, even a phone). There are not many plug options, and who knows what the wiring is like in this building.
The pool is out of order, and when I asked about it, the owner vaguely pointed to a heating unit and said, "the pool is cold". I suppose they need to install the heater, or have it installed. Big bummer.
There is a laundry facility on site, but it also is out of order. Of course it is.
Breakfast options are /extremely/ limited. Not even a waffle iron or yogurt! The coffee and juice are so watered down they have no flavour. My oldest son and I are both celiac, so our only option for breakfast was frosted flakes, which my son loved. (Gross.) Bread is rationed for you, and there are some cheap honey bun type pastries. I don't understand when a hotel is so cheap as to only allow two pieces of bread per person (not that /we/ can eat it), yet wasting money on the plastic wrap required to ration/temporarily prevent staleness. Just a pet peeve. One could easily take two packs of bread, I suppose. Whatever the case, we are now armed with gluten free waffles, so we shall sally forth upon the morrow.
There appear to be a number of permanent residents at this hotel, and there is an RV park attached.
Having wandered the area for a laundromat and grocery store, I find that the Platte City area in general seems run down and in need of repair. There are much better hotels in KCI airport area. This one is run by kind people, who have made our circumstances as decent as is in their power with the facilities in the condition they are. It could be a nice, older hotel, but it will take a lot of work to get it there. I hope they can make the necessary improvements before things deteriorate too much to...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would.. this place was so DISGUSTING. We were in room 220 and as soon as you walk in it smelt of dirt.. dust.. smoke.. and something I can’t describe.. very outdated but we didn’t care.. it was how filthy it was! The floors looked like they haven’t been vacuumed.. the blanket on the bed had visible stains... burn holes (it was a non smoking room).. and there was a stain guard sheet underneath the normal sheet that felt like you were laying on a thick black garbage bag the whole night! The blankets and pillows looked/smelled/felt like they haven’t been washed in a long time.. and it was not comfortable by any means.. woke up with bad back pains..on top of that the ac/heater unit was either WAY TOO HOT or WAY TOO COLD. I kept having to get up at night switching it back and forth.. also, the microwave/mini fridge/and coffe maker DO NOT WORK. Power does not even go through the devices when plugged in. When I called the front desk to tell them about it the woman was very rude and barely understandable. She said, “What do you what eh?! Oh they don’t work?! Yeah yeah sure sure.. you staying another night?? (I respond with, ‘no’...) OHHH I SEE you’re not staying again?! HMPH.. yeah I’ll check it later when you leave. Okay leave now bye!”. In a very disrespectful tone and acted like because we were not staying another night she wasn’t even going to check it! I felt sooooo so nasty I wanted to shower after sleeping and feeing so disgusting in this room.. but the shower was no better! There was hair all over the shower walls and had a film on the tub like it hasn’t been washed.. the shower curtain was very thin and flimsy with stains all over it and smelled so gross.. like a wet soggy moldy rag.. and the shower head was at my face/collar bone area!! ( i’m 5 foot three inches!!!) horrible horrible experience ! There was so much more bad things about the place but I think you got the message. DONT COME HERE I SWEAR THE PRICE IS...
