Iâve been to Rapidos a few times and I understand there has been some hardship starting a new Mexican restaurant where a successful one (Mariaâs) was (old business owner died), during a pandemic, trying to find staff, and so on. Iâve also seen the reviews about poor tasting salsa, chips being cut-up, deep-fried tortillas (thatâs what they are lol), and inexperienced teens running around. I think they have improved, worked out the kinks, and are now operating consistently.
When you sit down and get served salsa, ask for the medium and hot salsas. They have three levels. The hottest one seems like theyâve added some chipotles in adobo sauce to the mix, while simple, is very nice and smokey.
Order anything and have the house cheese dip added to it. Thatâs just a good idea at any Mexican restaurant. At Rapidos, Iâve had the fajita burrito, tres tacos, fajitas, chimichanga, tres enchiladas, and the fried ice cream.
The food is generally served fast and the plate is not overloaded with food. Out of the list of food items Iâve tried at Rapidos, the fajitas fell way short. Imagine the sizzling plate. You hear it, and know your food is coming. Not at Rapidos. No sizzling plate. Just a bunch of condiments, prepped earlier in the day (I hope), and popped in the fridge until an order comes in then slapped on the plate with some seasoned, grilled meat, green peppers, and onions. While not bad, itâs not something Iâd order again.
Iâve ordered beer several times and it was served ice-cold. They have keg beer on tap. Iâve ordered margaritas and they are pretty good. 50/50 chance that if you ask for no-salt, you will get it anyway - that is my experience.
Typically I spend from $35 to $50 with one round of drinks and dinner for two people.
There are not many options for dining, other than fast food, in Platte City, so having a nice Mexican place in town is very pleasing. I always take my dinner home, and cover it with the leftover salsa from my trio.
I will be going back to...
Read moreThis restaurant was very solid. Service was rapido as the name of the restaurant suggests. The atmosphere was somewhat plain but itâs ok. The food was really good.
House salsa: Tomato-based salsa with a great consistency and a lime undertone. Real good. House hot: Tomato-bases salsa with chile de Arbol making a really really nice smoky and spicy salsa. Not too hot and the flavor comes through very well.
Crispy chicken tacos- simple toppings but the chicken was seasoned and shredded perfectly. The contrast between the soft melt-in-your-mouth shredded chicken and the crunchy taco shell was very pleasing.
Black beans (side)- great. They looked simple but a nice saltiness level came through to deliver a great side dish.
Roasted veggies (side)- amazing!!! The roasted veggies were surprisingly tasty and reminded me of vegetables you would get at a Japanese hibachi restaurant. They were seasoned perfectly and made for an amazing side kick to the meal that you wouldnât expect to be so good!
Overall, this restaurant experience was really really good. Service from the waitress was quick and consistent. She brought the house salsa to me at no additional charge and was extremely friendly. I...
Read moreWent for my birthday dinner with my family. I was so disappointed I nearly cried. Terribly slow service. (But my waitress did have a lot of tables to manage on her own.) Party of 5 crammed around a small table. We had to use put stuff on the dirty window sill we sat next to. My daughter and I ordered the âstreet tacosâ. Neither of us could could finish even one. Terrible! Maybe it was an off night, bc heard good things at the street tacos is why I chose to go here. Super expensive bill and NONE of my family even ate their food. Full plates of food left & no one got a Togo box- thatâs unheard of for us lol. The âpina coladaâ drink was good though. Our waitress could tell we were disappointed but did nothing, said/offered nothing. Her look and demeanor just changed a bit and she avoided our table after we were served. We assume she wrote us off as a poor tip since we werenât really eating. (Not the case. Still a decent tip left bc it was a ~$90 bill) Would not recommend. Will...
