We checked in with my in-laws on 5/18/25 and checked out on 5/20/25.
The front desk gals on 5/18 were SO sweet and friendly!
When we got to our room, 704, I noticed there was a loofah in the shower. At first I thought that was a cool amenity until I checked my in-laws and saw they didn’t have one. I went back into our bathroom and realized it wasn’t very clean. I went down to the front desk and let them know there was stuff in the bathroom from the previous guests. They offered to send someone up to clean and I declined for that night just because we had a long day of traveling and were exhausted, plus my son would be in the room by himself while we ate because he had a bad headache. I didn’t want people up in the room with my 15 year old. I just asked them to let the cleaning staff know to please clean while we are out and about the next day.
On 5/19 we left early to go do some touristy stuff and when we got back to our hotel room late afternoon, the cleaning people had been there. Our beds were made and we had fresh towels, the picked up garbage, but they didn’t clean the bathroom. The same chain thing was still on the floor and the loofah was still in the shower.
I went down to talk to the front desk gals who were different from the previous day but just as wonderful as the previous days (there was also a gentleman who was behind the desk that joined in on the convo) and let them know I had talked to the gals the previous day about this but that our bathroom still wasn’t cleaned. I showed them some of these pics.
It doesn’t matter how amazing and friendly the staff is, a dirty room is just unacceptable. The fact that other people’s items were left in the bathroom when we checked in shows laziness and a lack of attention to detail. The fact that the same stuff was still in the bathroom and on the floor, is especially unacceptable. To me, that shows a lack of care for the job. Guests shouldn’t pay that much money for a dirty room.
It wasn’t just the dirty bathroom either, they didn’t have enough regular coffee. It was 3 decaf and one 1 regular. They didn’t give us more coffee or coffee cups when they came straightened up our room. It’s little details that seem like not such a big deal but with the dirty bathroom, it adds ups. Not all our garbage was taken from the room which wasn’t a big deal because maybe they didn’t realize we wanted it gone… I don’t know, but those things add up.
It makes me wonder now as I’m writing this if our bedding was even clean. The person who cleaned our room did such a terrible job. My in-laws room 705, was clean. Bathroom clean, plenty of regular coffee, replaced coffee, replaced coffee cups. It was a night and day difference between our two room.
The gals & guy I showed the pictures too also seemed surprised that chain thing was left behind. If I noticed it just tossing something into the garbage, how did the cleaning staff not notice it on more than one occasion when taking the garbage out? Maybe they did and just didn’t care? The gal at the front desk offered again to send up housekeeping, which I declined again because it had been a long day for us, I didn’t want to have housekeeping in the room while we were trying to rest up before dinner. This should have been done before we checked in or when they came in to tidy up our room before dinner.
The gal at the front desk was super sweet and apologetic, and gave us $15 off coupon for one of their restaurants, and I was so grateful for that, but more should have been done. I think money off the room should have been credited back to my in-laws since they stayed but I just graciously accepted the coupon which we did use.
Had our bathroom been cleaned, I would have given a 5 star review but the unclean bathroom when we checked in and then they still didn’t clean it while we were there, knocked off a few stars. I feel my 3 star is generous and it’s only because the front desk staff was so nice and pleasant to deal with.
Also, the light in the shower flickers on and off and the sink fills up and...
Read moreI decided to rent out the "Whitney Preserve Suite" for my anniversary. This room is a two story Jacuzzi suite that runs normally at $350-$400/night. Upon arrival, front desk staff was very friendly and helpful as I had a lot of questions. I was, however, extremely disappointed in the room itself. For a $400/night, two story suite, it didn't even have a kitchenette! There was a mini fridge, not full size. There was a dining area and table...with ONE chair. I'm sorry, but why would you only put one chair in a honeymoon suite? How many people rent honeymoon suite's by themselves? Anyways, there were two flatscreen TV's, one on each floor, which was nice and the bed was really comfortable. When we turned on the TV, we had cable, but no movie rental options so we had to go rent some movies. We got back to realize there was no dvd player at all so we had to go home and get our own. There were two bathrooms and one of them was out of toilet paper which tells me housekeeping does a poor job when preparing the rooms. Although the room was on the 9th floor, it was facing the parking lot and civic center rather than facing downtown where the good view is. The Jacuzzi was a bit small but just big enough for two people. The major problem I had was that there was a leak in the drain plug so water was constantly draining out of the tub. After 10 minutes of sitting with water off, the Jacuzzi was already half empty, thus we had to keep the water running constantly and crank the TV volume on full blast just to hear it over the sound of the running water. Overall, I wouldn't pay a dime over $200/night for this room and honestly, they need to take a look at some serious remodeling. This hotel has been around for a long time and between it and the Alex Johnson, this is where celebrities stay when they're in town. It's in the heart of downtown and has constant business so there is no reason why the hotel owner can't afford to recondition the rooms. If you stay at this hotel, don't pay more than $200/night for this room.
EDIT: Changing my review to 5 stars because evidently the owners heard loud and clear. The room recieved a complete remodel including a kitchenette and a much larger fridge. The new Jacuzzi is twice the size of the old one and glad to know it doesn't leak anymore. My wife and I have stayed her 4 years in a row since they remodeled, I just regret that I didn't see this review until recently to change it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Rapid. Our service is...
Read moreBuyer beware- Bed bugs in room 809 on August 2024. We made hotel staff and day manager aware of bedbugs on our room!
We had only one more night in Rapid City. Asked them to move our things to another room. 2 floors away- up or down. Came back to hotel after a day of tourism, to find they moved us to the room right next door! We were furious. By this time it was the evening manager and she knew nothing of bedbugs in the hotel, and or of our situation. Front desk told us there were no rooms. Then moved us to 5th floor, and fridge was brought in on a hand truck. Checked the room and fridge, it was dirty, fridge was sticky and filthy. Furious, I phoned the manager to come up to the room, and she did. She made a call, and magically there was another room in the hotel. It was a suite they had not wanted to give us, as it was an upgrade. We went to the room with a staff member who helped us with our luggage. We thoroughly checked the room. It was dirty but less dirty than the others. Clean fridge though much of our food was ruined from staff moving our fridge items from 809 to 808. Plus, we only had a few hours to sleep before we caught our flight, so we accepted the room. Didn’t unpack and felt uncomfortable. In the morning when checking out, after a four day stay - three of the nights in a room that had bedbugs, they gave us a whopping $50 off, our bill. They should’ve comped half or the whole stay acted like bedbugs were no big deal. They didn’t have any compensation for dragging our things and us to so many different rooms.
But for us, it was the beginning of our nightmare with bedbugs. We had to take our luggage through the airport and then home. We worried for if we were bringing the bedbugs back to our home.
I’ll never stay at that hotel again. We thought better of the best western but now we know there are many faults include covering up bedbugs.
We made the Rushmore aware of all there issues w no response back from them.
Skip the Rushmore Hotel. No one needs to bring home...
