If you look at my profile you won’t find negative reviews so I do not leave this review without reason or without knowing it can be impactful to a small business. We have really enjoyed our time in Rapid city and have done our best to support the local economy by visiting Vertex (5 star), Toastique (5 star), Harriet and Oak (5-star) and a number of local boutiques and establishments along Main Street. We walked our way through Main Street today and found the Essence of Coffee for breakfast and coffee. After spending over $50 for a couple of coffees and some breakfast, we were confronted regarding the iced coffee that my daughter had been carrying from another establishment earlier in the day. Despite our patronage of their restaurant, without any compromise, and after ordering and paying for our meal, we were asked to leave without eating or dispose of the coffee. This policy is not consistent with what we have found in other local restaurants and establishments who work to support one another versus act like they are the only show in town. This policy is short sighted and the customer service was ridiculous. Food was marginal at best and coffee was top notch. Do better when it comes to customer service and be a better member of your local community that thrives on...
Read moreSo ordered the Aussie breakfast (one of the most expensive breakfast items), Veggie burrito, and some coffee. Got it bagged as it was to go. Opened the bag that it was put in and the Styrofoam box and a spider crawled out. Took it back and the employee asked the manager on duty and she said that once it leaves the building it was on us and I could pay to have another one made. Left them with the box and no food no return. I chose this place based on so many positive reviews. Definitely want to let others know that the experience I had definitely did not match the reviews.
Edit based on comment from owner. You are correct that I miss commented on the styrofoam container as it was a cardboard type container. It wasn’t 30 mins as I was down at the Walgreens a few blocks from your location when I turned around to return it back. A refund would have been nice, but I’m back in Wisconsin now. Might have been a little harsh with the 1 star food review as the veggie burrito was pretty decent but the whole return experience clouded it. I get your hesitance in taking ownership of “spiddy” but even offering a free X dollar value worth of coffee would have been better than being written off that I can purchase...
Read moreThis is my boyfriend's favorite coffee place in town. The service is pretty good and they are always busy which can make seating hard to come by. There is a big table in the front that should be replaced with a smaller table to allow room for customers who are standing in line to order and who are waiting for their drinks. It's awkward sitting at that table when people surround it while they wait to be served or place an order. They have a variety of food options and offer gluten free bread. This visit my boyfriend and I split the avocado toast and the biscuits and gravy. The food is good and the service is quick. They used to serve matcha and no longer do, which is a disappointment as my favorite drink from there was their lavender matcha. I do like that if you order food, they give you a number to set on your table and bring the food out to you. I've only eaten breakfast there, but they do serve burgers and salads for lunch and afternoon. In addition to the coffee, they also have a variety of loose leaf teas and some bottled drinks as well. The roasters are Australian and they do seem to try to provide items that...
