The Voyageur Inn has been my family's go to hotel for well over 30 years. We have had several family reunions here as well as after funeral meals using the conference center. Not much changes between our visits. Today I noticed the same couch set in the lobby that we had sat on 19 years ago to take pictures. The rooms are basic and outdated but big. They offer everything you need but not many frills. However, the room was clean and we appreciated that. Every employee we encountered was great. They were welcoming and polite. We are in Marty's for breakfast twice and the Asian lady waiting tables was really helpful and worked hard as she appeared to be by herself. Every morning we saw the property owner, Marty Koenecke, having coffee with friends in the restaurant. While the property could benefit from updates and landscaping outside it is a great place to stay while in the area. You can't beat the prices, the space and the proximity to the Dells. We stayed for four nights at $300 with tax. What a great deal. I hope the Voyageur is here for years to come as we will continue to come back here.

It was so damn hot. We stayed here on a 90° humid day in early June, so we were looking forward to a nice, refreshing air conditioned room, but the room was so awkwardly big that the poor little A/C unit never got our room down to a comfortable temperature or humidity level, and we slept in a sticky mess of our own sweat. So we went to the pool to cool off, and were met with a wave of hot, humid air as soon as we opened the door to the pool room. The water was very very warm, and was over-chlorinated. So we gave up on the pool and decided to buy some cold drinks, but BOTH vending machines were broken, and of course, so too was the ice machine. This place just couldn't give up with the heat. In the morning you don't get breakfast, you get a small discount at their restaurant. Eight years later I still think of this terrible hotel. It's cheap because it's bad. Don't spend the night here!

This is a surprising little gem of a place! They have an attached supper club steak house that is fantastic! The overall SURPRISE is the VAST amount of Norman Rockwell memorabilia they have, it ranges for his entire career at the Saturday Evening Post and beyond. This in itself is worth a trip to have a look!

Our family was on a multi-state road trip and taking our hotel stays day-by-day. When we decided to land in the Wisconsin Dells area, we were debating whether to spend 1 night or 2 in the area. I came upon the Voyageur Inn and was attracted to it because it boasted of WiFi, a pool/hot tub, an on-site restaurant and bar. I saw from the pictures that it is an older property, but we’d been having good luck with older properties this trip, finding several that were clean and comfortable, and we hoped for the same from Voyageur. I envisioned that we might be able to use the pool with our tween, then my husband and I might enjoy a cocktail at the bar in the evening while he played with his friends on his iPad in the room. If the room/amenities had been as comfortable as we’d hoped, we’d have stayed 2 nights. We ended up leaving after 1, and gratefully so. First, there is no WiFi in the rooms, they say they’re “working on it,” but based on the signage it doesn’t seem like they’re planning on finishing that “work” anytime soon. The woman at check-in was sitting at a desk in a back office facing the front, but still made us ring the bell before she would come out, though she knew we were standing there. She couldn’t find our reservation initially. She finally found it, and gave us our keys. We noted that the main hall smelled funny, and the halls where the rooms are located are DARK. Looks like something out of a horror movie walking up. We opened our first room and it was HOT. I turned the AC on and noticed it didn’t seem to be blowing very cold, but we thought we’d go to dinner and leave it running, and see if it cooled down. It didn’t. When we got back and it was still hot, we went to the front desk (rang the bell again), and the woman’s response after we told her we went to dinner and came back was, “It just takes a while, give it 10 minutes.” We said it’s already been over an hour. She said, “Well, I’d have to come check it,” as if we wouldn’t want her to do that. We said, “Yes, please do!” She did come confirm that the AC wasn’t working, and told us maintenance wasn’t in. We asked for a different room, and she said she could move us, but the other room’s door key wasn’t working so she’d have to figure out the key. We asked to be moved, and after some time she was able to bring us a key for the new room. We learned that the restaurant and bar is only open from 5-8 in the evenings, so no chance of that evening cocktail. No towels at the pool, we used our room towels. The WORST part of the whole stay, though, was what passed for a “bed”! Sleeping on the floor might have been worse, but not by much. The king-sized bed was literally like sleeping on a cot. It doesn’t even feel like a real bed. Thinnest mattress I’ve ever seen in my life. That alone would be reason enough to cut our stay short, if we had planned on being there more than one night. It was truly awful. Pros: The rooms are large. They were satisfactorily clean. There was a stain on the carpet and some stray hairs in the bathroom, but other than that it did seem pretty clean. And the complimentary breakfast ticket at the restaurant next door IS nice. We had a great breakfast of scrambled eggs, meat, toast with jelly, and coffee, in a nice sit-down restaurant atmosphere, free of charge. That was nice. Also, the Norman Rockwell art collection on site is pretty cool. There’s a nice little biographical write-up of Norman Rockwell available in the lobby, and their collection of his complete works is on display in the halls leading to the restaurant. That being said, our overall experience at the Voyageur Inn was… lacking. We’ve stayed in some old hotels and motels that were really well-run, clean, and nice. This wasn’t that. This was a property in decline in EVERY way, not just by age. Do...

This is a hidden-gem hotel in a small town close to both Wisconsin Dells and Baraboo. Overall, I would stay here again. Here are some pros and cons of my experience:||Pros:|-Ritzy vintage vibes. The lobby is decked out in red carpeting and chandeliers. The wallpaper features Victorian scrolls and there is classical music playing on speakers throughout the hotel.|-The staff. The front desk staff was incredibly helpful and attentive. Holly, the bartender at the hotel's lounge, was an absolute delight!|-The Black Squirrel. This is the aforementioned bar/lounge attached to the hotel and the hotel's restaurant. The old fashioneds were $3.00! |-The location. My husband and I loved the small-town feel near big-city attractions.|-The price is right and you get what you pay for. |The Cons:|-Super dated and in need of major renovations. The wallpaper is peeling throughout the facility, there was water damage on the wall in our room near our bathroom mirror, and the screen was bent and almost falling off our window. Generally, it appeared as though not much was updated since the 80s.|-the Pool. They are storing a pool table with curtains and wood on top of it, pieces of fitness equipment, and a ladder in the pool room, which is pretty unsightly. |-the breakfast. The breakfast was a free buffet breakfast in the attached restaurant,, Marty's steakhouse. I was looking forward to a departure from traditional, bland hotel breakfasts and it unfortunately was not good, and the only items there were scrambled eggs, ham, and a cinnamon roll. They appeared to be out of some things.|-the beds. My husband and I stayed in a room on the 3rd floor, and I did hear a rumor that other beds on the lower floors have been updated, but our beds were terrible. They were hard and lumpy and it was difficult to get a good night's sleep. There was also a yellow stain on the sheets and sand or other pieces of small debris on the fitted sheet that I had to brush off. ||Overall, the friendly staff, quaint atmosphere, low price, and unique style of the building would bring me back here again, and hopefully they have made updates...
