UPDATE AFTER MANAGER RESPONSE:
Well, I am surprised at how underwhelming this response was! You took responsibility for nothing and said you’d correct the staff. The staff did nothing wrong. I was clear this is entirely management.
I saw the note on front desk regarding my issue. Multiple times as I came and went. It was written and waiting to hand to manager when they arrived that morning. 5/17/25. I would bet money that message got to the manager. I was at the hotel another 4 days and wasn’t followed up with.
I filled out TWO guest surveys following my stay with all the same info I wrote here. One from Cambria and one from Choice.
I wrote this same review on TripAdvisor after I never heard back from any manager. I’ll have to find more places to post it.
Taking the angle of perplexity about my mysterious complaints that I supposedly never made (I have screenshots) is a failure of hospitality management. Check your follow up systems. I bet the data is there. It’s the give-a-f that is missing. The only thing you can guarantee is that I will never use Choice hotels again.
ORIGINAL: The amount I paid to be miserable at the Cambria is ridiculous. This was the one time I would have actually liked to talk to a manager about an incident. I sent in complaints through their follow up systems after my stay. I’ve heard nothing back in a month so clearly they don’t care about guest satisfaction.
To start, the doorless shower design is idiotic. No one wants to deal with a flooded mess of a bathroom every day. That alone is worth not returning.
Next, the bar/restaurant closing early was infuriating. I booked based on having those amenities at the times posted online. I actually switched from a different hotel to have these amenities. It basically feels like false advertising. I understand from a management perspective it’s losing money to leave them open when not busy. Adjust your posted hours if need be. Provide what your hotel promised.
They have smart TVs, BUT you just can’t access streaming apps. Instead you get 80s type cable channels that have no “guide” channel to show what’s on and when. Actually, we had the guide channel even back in the 80s and didn’t have to click for hours scrolling through.
Finally, the first night out of the five I stayed, I had a problem which I reported twice to front desk. The desk staff handled it well and would inform the manager. The problem was not the hotel’s fault, but rather unruly guests. However, it was a pretty bad experience and I would have expected the manager to have contacted me. Frankly, from a hospitality stand point I should have been comp’ed a night. I paid a lot of money to not get any sleep, and then had to cancel plans the next day to get some rest.
The staff was very pleasant and respectful. I interacted with several front desk, bartenders, maintenance, and a housekeeper. The accusation in another review of the staff being racist or bigoted is preposterous. I spent plenty of time downstairs and the majority of the other guests were also people of color, to which the staff treated graciously.
There were many nice aspects to this hotel (clean, safe, staff), but I will not stay here again and will advise others to avoid it. There’s much better available at this price. I’m done with Choice hotels. At least I know any Marriot will provide modern tv. Hyatt still takes...
Read moreWell I was going to leave a 3 star review for this establishment, mainly because of a few things. First off was cleanliness. I don’t care how old, new, remodeled, etc a hotel is, as long as it’s clean, we are happy. Although the room was very spacious, the first thing we saw was an Uncrustables wrapper in the space between the wall and mattress. It wasn’t hard to see, so I’m not sure how housecleaning could’ve missed it. There was also a large red stain on the wall and the bathroom didn’t seem to be wiped down very well. I added pictures for reference. There is no lid on the toilet, so knowing it wasn’t wiped down very well, doesn’t make me feel very confident in the cleanliness of the bathroom. I also took off stars because although the room had a coffee maker, they had nothing but decaf pods. When asked if they had any reg coffee, we were told they were out, so if you wanted any coffee, you had to go downstairs and have what they put in the big dispenser at the bar, which wasn’t the best tasting stuff. We were also unhappy about the elevators. While there are two, one of them was out of order and seemed to be out for awhile, because there were some other guests that walked up while we were waiting for it to come down, and they said, “Oh it’s STILL not working.” Which led me to believe they’ve stayed there previously and it was down at that time too and hadn’t been fixed in all that time. With having 4 floors it takes the elevator a long time to go up and down, so only having one, means you are standing there waiting for long periods of time. So now that brings me to why we are ending up giving them one star. The staff we ran into were nice and friendly, so no problems there, but when we went to check out, the front desk guy told us that when they ran our credit card when checking in, that it didn’t go through, and that he was going to have to do it again. My husband thought it was odd but went ahead and let him run it again. We were in town for a soccer tournament, so we had to get going to make it to the game, but as we were in the car driving there, I checked our credit card account, and sure enough there were two separate charges on our card. So it had in fact gone through the first time the day before, and also again today as we were checking out. My husband called them right away to let them know their mistake, and after leaving him on hold for several minutes, the guy comes back on and tells him to just dispute it with our credit card company. Why couldn’t they just reverse the charge? Especially when it had only been 20 min or so since we left. So now we have to take our time and be inconvenienced, when it was their mistake to begin with. The hotel wasn’t the worst, but definitely wasn’t the greatest either and that just put it over the edge. We stay at a lot of hotels and have never been double charged for a room before, and won’t be risking going...
Read moreI want to start off by saying that we’ve stayed at some of the best hotels throughout out our travels, from The Waldorf Astoria, Four Seasons, The Ritz Carlton, etc; even a 7 star hotel internationally. The people giving 2-3 stars are being nit picky and probably complain elsewhere. Is this hotel absolutely perfect… no but when it comes to cleanliness, convenience and modern updates, it’s great! We were remodeling our home close by and needed a hotel for a week. I didn’t want to rent an air bnb because I wanted to be able to relax. The original hotel we booked was more expensive than Cambria and not very clean so I wanted to switch. This is where the 5 stars comes in: We were greeted by Mashayla, front desk & operations manager. Not only did she make us feel welcome and appreciated but went above and beyond to make sure our stay that week was extremely comfortable. Our room was immaculately clean, comfortable and had plenty of room. The location was so convenient and walking distance to great restaurants. We weren’t impressed with the Bar, The bartender wasn’t extremely friendly and sat most of the time when we went downstairs for happy hour. The late afternoon, evening front desk also needs to take cues from Mashayla. I called to let the lady ( didn’t get a name, she was blonde with colorful clothes Thursday late afternoon 5/1) know that the iron in the room was ruined and that I needed another, she told me that her maintenance guy wasn’t there and sounded inconvenienced. I told her that it’s ok and I’ll figure something out. Housekeeping was extremely loud knocking and then cleaning next door pretty early on the last day of our stay but they’re just doing their job. My husband didn’t love the open concept shower because it made a mess and continued to drip for hours on the metal drain. We had to put a towel on the drain to stop the noise. Again, not that big of a deal compared to the amazing price of this place. Mashayla definitely gave this hotel an elevated feel and continuously gave 5 star hotel customer service. We will definitely come back should we need a hotel, or just want a staycation to go eat at the steakhouses and have drinks at the Irish Pub a short walk away! I’ll also recommend this hotel to all my out of town clients.
Those giving less than 5 stars: this hotel is absolutely amazing for the price!!! What more do you expect compared to what you’re paying?!? The $300-$600 a night hotels in DFW can’t beat the size of the king suite we had all week, along with the convenience and the treatment we received from Mashayla…5 stars hands...
