I rarely write reviews, but felt this experience should be shared. No one answered phone at 10:30 pm for airport shuttle for multiple attempts, despite reporting that shuttle runs until 11:00pm. No one answered phone at front desk. Took shuttle for Doubletree hotel and walked, only to find that this Holiday Inn Airport was a different hotel (there are 2 separate Holiday Inn SLC Airport FYI). Ultimately had to Uber to hotel around 11:15pm. I can take blame for that, but still think hotel should answer phone. Overnight, at 1am someone entered my room with a key that opened the door. Thankfully, latch was secured. Person attempted multiple times before I called out that room was occupied and they left. I got up and secured deadbolt and tried to sleep again. 30 min later, someone again opened my door with a key that worked. Door was stopped again with latch, the deadbolt did nothing. This time I went to door. It was the front desk agent who checked me in. He states that they got the "numbers jumbled" and he was trying to sort it out knocking on doors. However, he did not knock only accessed my room with a key. I was traveling alone and scared by this point. I wanted to hang a "do not disturb" sign, but I didn't have one in the room. I requested one from desk, and they he me he would place it but he never did despite 2 reminders. In the morning after breakfast, my own room key did not work to enter my room and I had to get new keys. They didn't even ask for my ID, just gave me new keys for the room number I requested. I was afraid to leave valuables in my room when I was away during the day given multiple attempts by people to enter my room overnight and lack of security. There was no safe. Therefore, I carried my computer around with me during the day for a job interview, which was awkward. I tried to request to speak with manager 3 times at different times of day (morning 0800, afternoon 1600, evening 1900), she was never there reportedly. I was told to leave a message on a notepad, which I did, describing my concerns. She never contacted me. This was one of the worst and scariest hotel experiences I have ever had. Please investigate these...
Read morePool was open until only 7 p.m.? Seriously? Never been to an HIE where the pool was closed at 7 p.m. I hope that's not some made-up COVID policy. Was planning to soak in the hot tub for a few minutes, but when we arrived at 7 p.m. and was told the pool closed at 7 p.m., that ruined those plans.
Terrible service at check in. Was not greeted as a Spire Elite member, nor asked if I wanted points or treat bag. Not a big deal, but I have never NOT been welcomed.
Was told to wear a mask or would not be able to check in. I explained the mask mandate was over, according to the CDC and the state of Utah. Was told it's private property and I had to wear a mask "per company policy." I understand that, but I have stayed in Texas, Missouri, Idaho, and other places in Utah during the pandemic and have NEVER been told I had to wear a mask. Front desk clerk -- not sure what her name was -- was a bit snarky and I didn't appreciate it.
Parking was RIDICULOUS. Drove around property for over one hour looking for parking on Friday night. At midnight I finally found out from a hotel clerk that the parking garage was not big enough to accommodate all the guests of the hotel and that I would need to find alternative parking arrangements. Parked in a public parking garage and had to pay $10 for the night.
So much for "free" parking as advertised by the hotel.
No housekeeping service. We left the room at 9 a.m. on Friday morning and did not return until after midnight. (Would have been earlier, but as I mentioned, the parking situation ... ) When we got to the room, our room had not been touched by the housekeeping staff. No clean towels, full trash cans, etc. I've had limited housekeeping serving in the past, but have always had extra towels left, trash emptied and used towels removed. Terrible service. I stay in Salt Lake enough, and many times our events are downtown at the convention center across the street, but I will NEVER stay at this property again. Especially if I have a vehicle.
Worst Holiday Inn Express experience every. Thought I would try it once, but...
Read moreI got this hotel on Hotwire for about $50 off my corporate rate for this IHG Holiday Inn Express, and I am not very pleased that I paid that. Many things in the room were broken: rips in the carpet, the wall mount holding the shampoos had a defective screw and each unit (shampoo, conditioner, and body wash) had to be taken out to use, and the conditioner pump was broken so I had to take the top off to use it. The HVAC wall control does not work, and the cover to unit controls was just sitting unattached; like, what's the purpose!? The location is close to SLC Airport, but no decent restaurants are close, and downtown is 15 minutes by car. You need a car to stay here. The bed, linens, TV channel selections were all superior, as was the morning breakfast and coffee, as well as the in-room Keurig with nice assortment of coffee, tea, and acutrements. What has never happened in close to 40 years of business travel (I'm on an IHG status challenge for Platinum, and I am Globalist with Hyatt-my number one choice by far-, Diamond with Hilton, and Platinum or Titanium with Bonvoy depending on the year-my most hated by far) and in the middle of a meeting with the do not disturb on the door before regular check-out time where I had received permission for a 1pm check-out, the cleaning person knocked on my door once, and I muted and said I was in the room. A few moments later, they knocked again, I muted again and yelled I'm working. The person had the unmitigated audacity to knock a third time, to which I muted one more time, yelled I'm working, not to bother me again, I'm in the middle of a meeting and will not come to the door. I spoke to the manager on the way out, and they just listened and likely did not know I'm in the top 95% of hotel reviewers on Google. Now...
