Powell Place — Hotel in San Francisco

The staff was rude. There was only one woman who has worked there for 30 plus years that was nice. The hotel is very dated but suitable for basic needs. I got cheese on the bed and tried to clean it with their dish rag that was light blue. The cheese came out but the spot was still a little damp upon check out. The elevator was out of service one day but had been repaired supposedly. Upon check out I got stuck in the elevator. When the doors finally opened I had to walk down the stairs while 6 months pregnant on a sprained ankle. When I got home a man called me and told me they have to charge me $500 to dry the mattress as they have a guest checking in. The woman who was polite and helpful expressed to me 2 days before how empty they were as they only had 6 guest in the entire building. When I told the man to let it dry and sleep any new guest in a different room, he told me the new guest were elderly and can't do stairs even though they have no ground floor rooms and every room requires an elevator or stairs. My room was on the 2nd floor out of 3 floors where guest stay. But actually it's the 3rd floor as the lobby is on ground level. He was rude and unprofessional. I will never stay there again and I don't recommend anyone else book a room here. Nightmare !! We were asked to board our dog upon arrival and we did. We weren't clear on the pet policy regarding ESA and booked our vacation. So our bad and we ended up boarding our pet for the whole week while we were there .. but the real nightmare started afterwards. The manager kept calling us at odd times almost daily ( sometimes at 10.30 pm ) and we would get her calls while we were riding trolley, having dinner, breakfast just randomly to confirm that we did board our dog. Talk about trust issues !! Her crew and staff kept opening our room door at odd times , many times when we were still inside our room.. they would just say sorry and close it behind them quickly..they were doing that probably to make sure we don't have our dog with us. I have no idea how many times they came inside our room and poked around when we were away during the day . but still it felt like such a violation of privacy and to be honest kind of harassment..we stayed in that old dump for seven days.. stuck as we couldn't get any reimbursement if we checkout early.. they kind of ruined our vacation. All with their micro managing and trust issues. Will never ever board here nor will recommend this place...

The old lady that works there was a complete jerk and said we couldn’t have our key back cause we had an extra guest. In the rules it clearly states that we can have extra guests until 11pm, it was only 7pm at the time we were asking for our key so I don’t understand why she needed to be so nasty. She was horrible and unprofessional!!

When we first got there we asked if there was a spot for our luggage till we could check in and the man at the counter didn’t make eye contact and was very uptight and rude said just throw them by the fire place, we asked if they will be locked up and he says with a snooty attitude “no they won’t be”

The people here are cranky and rude and shouldn’t have a job dealing with people cause clearly they don’t know how to interact and are not nice people. They send out bad vibes and are very unpleasant. We will never stay there again. Not to mention how stupid it is that you have to turn your key in to them every time you leave...
