Wyndham should be appalled to have this as one of their properties. Not only was it dirty but the furniture was appalling. At $137 a night you'd think you'd get something a little decent but this place was like a gross, truck stop, roadside, dive. We were two senior ladies who wanted to stay near the beach. Normally, WYNDHAM stands for quality but they totally missed the mark this time. |This was supposed to be a handicap room. We had to call the maintenance man in to try to get the hand held shower sprayer to work and when he finally got the hand held shower to work about 20 per cent of the water went through the hand held shower while 80 per cent was still coming out the spigot. The tub filled up with water because it wasn't draining. There was a shower chair that couldn't be accessed until you CLIMBED OVER THE WALL OF THE TUB as it barely fit in the tub, had arms on both sides of the seat, and couldn’t be accessed easily! This was ludicrous for a handicapped person. When the maintenance man and the front office manager were trying to get the hand held shower to work, we suggested moving us to a different handicap room and we were told there were no others available. There wasn’t even a handicap toilet in this “handicap” room!!! ! |The bottom of walls in the entire room and bathroom had bubbling under the paint as if they had been flooded and instead cutting and replacing the ruined wallboard, it was just painted over. We both have asthma and we suffered all night long with coughing and other issues. We believe there was mold under the carpet and/or in the walls because we were both having asthma attacks all night. There was food on the floor around the microwave and refrigerator, there was trash left underneath the bed skirts of the beds, there was something all over the bathroom floor that looked like chunks of drywall or plaster. |I wiped the TV remote with a sanitizing wipe and it actually turned black from the filth on the remote. |The Furniture looked as if it was picked up from the city trash pile. Complete pieces of trim were missing and everything was scuffed up unbelievably. There were rods sticking out from the bed frame which we hit our shins on.|The only redeeming quality that this location had was the personnel. Personnel were all very friendly and accommodating as well as they could be, aside from housekeeping of course. (The place was absolutely disgustingly dirty). The Breakfast Buffet I would rate an 8 out of 10. The only eggs were hard boiled, and there was no sausage or bacon. There were no sweet rolls or muffins. There were only bagels and toast and biscuits for the (packaged) gravy. The one saving Grace was the waffle irons but they looked unclean. I don’t think they’ve been scrubbed with a brush to get all the garbage off of them for a long time. |We’ve totally lost my faith in Wyndham. We used to be able to count on Wyndham’s integrity, quality and consistency. We would have left but we were exhausted from being at the beach all day and being seniors didn’t really have the energy to try and locate another room last minute. Shame on you Wyndham. We felt taken...
Read moretl;dr: A two-star experience at a truly two-star locale...
It was by far the strangest experience I have ever had at a hotel. On the one hand there was the overall experience at the hotel itself, and on the other the overall impression of the hotel itself. Let me start with the hotel itself...
The first thing I noticed was the black fence, wonky as it was, dented in places, and in others looking as if it would fall down on itself - it was the first red-flag of the place. Though the lobby area, small as it is, was well furnished and looked clean and relatively up to date, that's all that was truly appealing. The outdoor façade of the hotel is in dire and desperate need of updating, the room we stayed in was in dire and desperate need of updating, the parking lot could use a new resurfacing, and that fence definitely needs replaced - yes, you guessed it - direly and desperately.
Now, the overall experience at the hotel itself...It was good from the perspective of the customer service we received. We asked for more pillows and got them, we asked for a king bed and got that, but we also asked for a non-smoking room and it certainly was not. Given the conditions all around, and given that it was not an overpowering odor of cigarette smoke, just something that lingered in the air - we shrugged our shoulders and dealt with it. At the very least, the room was clean, the bed linens and bath linens appeared clean, and the smell didn't permeate other parts of the room - it was simply a lingering odor of cigarette smoke that we eventually got used to.
Additionally, I will say that the hotel had more of a apartment feel rather than hotel or even motel. I have no proof to substantiate this claim other than the sense from seeing those that were staying there appeared and felt to me as if they lived there, and by lived I mean this was their place of residence. Again, a strange and unsubstantiated feeling I will grant - but I guess you had to be there to see it and experience it. Thankfully, we really had no problems (other than the sound of gun shots in the distance during the first evening). To say I was relieved when we finally checked out and left the place is an understatement.
If you're needing to spend a quick night while on your way through Sarasota, I suppose for the price it's a half-decent place. But if you're looking to stay in town for more than one night, I would without hesitation look into other...
Read moreWe are originally from Sarasota and come back often to visit. Typically stay at La Quinta but La Quinta is now a Wyndham property, so we figured this place would be fine. Stayed there March 20-24, 2019 Well where do I begin...called requesting a 1st floor room ahead of time and early check in for our 4 day stay. Front desk clerk had no record of asking for early check in so we had to wait. After 3 pm we get a 2nd floor room facing parking lot above people who apparently live there. Door open standing outside smoking day & night. Upon entering the room the sink wouldn’t drain, the TV didn’t work, no bed spread on bed- a sheet??, could hardly open & close the door sticking badly you have to slam it. The AC runs continuously, loud. Room old & run down, needs a major facelift. Called about TV, then had to go to the front desk. Clerk was flustered with so many issues with guests. Called maintenance, he comes says -oh yeh we have had problems with this rooms tv, tomorrow I will get a new one for you. Leaves his remote so we can turn it on. Never to be seem again, oh wait I did see him at the breakfast bar. We read only cerain weight dogs allowed, yet we saw very large dogs staying there? So what is the pet policy? Seems information on web site is most misleading. The entire place is old and not well maintained. With a little effort, the place could be greatly improved on. Left a message for the general manager, but it appears she likes to reply by email and is accustomed to these reviews. The only positive I can report is good coffee and breakfast bar! We will...
