A couple of friends of mine own and operate stores similar to Elysian Fields in other parts of the country, and usually I am a fan of fun, new age, spiritual shops like this one. Sadly, Elysian Fields misses the mark on what makes stores like this great for me.
All of the items in this store are imports. You won't see trinkets, art, or anything neat that was actually made by the hands of any locals. That, to me, is a big let down. I love seeing local work, and native residents being supported for their craft. Instead of local flair, what you'll find here are astronomical prices on neat things that all come from overseas. I guess that's alright, but it gives the store a largely commercial feel instead of a warm and personal touch.
The employees, for the most part, are not particularly warm or inviting. I've gone into this store maybe ten times over the span of six years, and I'd say eight out of those ten visits I was doggedly followed around the shop by one or more staff members watching me like hawks as though I were some kind of criminal. It's somewhat off putting to pick up on the anxious vibe a store employee gives off when they are staring at you, and awkwardly following you around expecting you to shoplift. Every time I made eye contact, whichever employee was currently hovering anxiously asked if I needed help finding anything. Nah, I've been asked that ten times in the span of twenty minutes, so please bugger off. I brought my Hispanic husband in here perhaps three times, and Lordt, if you want to see an uncomfortable middle aged white woman squirm, just bring a bearded, tall, male person sans white skin in here for ten minutes.
I've practiced several forms of metaphysical healing daily for the past thirteen years, do totem readings, and pre conception energy work. When you wander into such areas you also tend to wander into a bit of snobbery and pretentious behavior. I feel like this place captures that elitist essence quite well. That's not really what I'm into.
If you are a middle aged or above demure white woman with a lot of money to spend, I'd say you have the best chance of at least being treated somewhat decently here. If you are younger, of color, or don't fit the image of what a "spiritually enlightened being" looks like, you run the risk of being treated like a lowly, thieving serf in here. Maybe try Pixie Dust downtown or The...
Read moreI love Elysian Fields! I have been a customer of this beautiful store for over a decade and every visit leaves me with some peace and serenity. This store deserved more than 5 stars! I have shopped for books, gifts, candles/incense and all kinds of authentic, and unique products there. When I walk in, I am greeted by my name, which makes me feel right at home. The atmosphere is always inviting, positive and calming. Sometimes, I'd go there after a very stressful day/week just to get recharged with good energy.
No, I do not work there, nor do I have a family/friend working there, so this review is as credible as they get. I have seen the employees' interactions with other customers and I can tell you that I am certainly not the only one leaving this store with a smile on my face (and in my heart), each and every time.
I am especially fascinated by the spiritual work done by the readers here; my favorites thus far are Catherine and Christine, but I think different people will have different experiences with the different readers, as we just vibe on different levels as people, and connect a little bit differently. They are truly gifted, turning skeptics into believers - I say that because I was one of those skeptics for a long time, until I visited them! I have seen skeptics also come in and come out, speechless. (From my humble experiences WITH OTHER local readers, honestly, I never left with much of validation.)
So, I highly recommend visiting this store not only for the shopping experience (great crystals and jewelry by the way, books for the deep mind too), but also if you are curious to learn more about yourself/your life, certainly the readers are a great resource; however, be sure to make an appointment ahead, although they are pretty good on availability (and price too!).
Thank for all the wonderful experiences, Elysian Fields! Happy New...
Read moredisappointed. Iâve been a customer here for years. I went to Sarasota high school and spent after hours shopping with Elysian Fields. I walked in today with 3 friends, weâre all 18, and immediately got asked to leave the store. we asked why and they said it was posted on the front. The sign claimed no minors or Sarasota high school students were allowed without an adult. We went back in and showed our ids, and explained how we graduated last year in 22â. the lady talking appeared to be a manager and we had multiple employees surrounding us. she told us we were not welcome despite what we said due to stealing problems. Such a âpositive environmentâ presented with such hostile judgmental and negative energy. way to show costumers you care. horrible experience. shame on them, loosing lots of youth business due to...
