I am a blue collar worker. I work very hard for my money. I paid my money and arrived rather late, almost midnight, after 14 hours of travel. I asked the blonde hair female clerk at the desk the next morning if I could have a later check out and she said the best she could do was 1145. I was wearing my work attire, consisting of a safety green tee shirt and jeans with steel toe work boots. Ok fine. Another couple asked the same question and I overheard her tell them 145pm. Those people were business casually dressed. I feel like I was discriminated against because of the way I was dressed. Not everyone that stays in your hotels is a banker, University professor, or insurance agent. Some of us are truck drivers, construction workers, road pavers, or come from other blue collar professions. Every paying customer should be treated with mutual respect, consideration, and given equal treatment.
My other complaint is Marriott's (and Hilton too for that matter) cancellation policy. Many times I am on the road and need to book a room or a few rooms for a work crew, and after booking the room for that night, plans change or the mission is cancelled and I need to cancel the room or rooms. The misleading thing that these hotel chains do is they state "free cancellation up until 11:59pm on August 20th" but it's actually August 21st. So unless you are keeping up with the date of the month, one could be led to believe the room is refundable when it is not. Just say in red, "non refundable". This prevents misunderstandings. A non refundable room booked on the day of arrival is also a rip off. In one situation I booked a room, paid for it, then the mission cancelled 5 minutes later and the hotel refused to refund the payment. We all know the hotel pocketed that money then rented the rooms out again and doubled their income. That is shady. Until Marriott and Hilton change this policy I will not book with either of them again.
I like to do business with companies that appreciate my business and are easy to do business with. They're not looking for every angle to extract an extra dollar out of me. Other chains will allow you to cancel and provide a full refund. I book leisure and business travel all over the world for my clients in addition to providing logistical support for cargo or heavy equipment.

Read moreWe have stayed in Marriotts for years and are gold members. We has made arrangements for a ground floor by the poo l but upon arriving was told the only thing they had was was upstairs away from the pool. I had made the reservations 8 months early. The room was dirty, unlike other Marriotts where we have stayed. When I went to plug a cpap machine in I had to pull out the nightstand and it was filthy back there. There was 1/2" dust and dirt all over the floor. Other parts of the room were dirty, especially finger prints on the walls. The help was nice but not efficient. Everytime we went for breakfast (stayed 4 nights), the pans of eggs and bacon were empty, along with many other items. The girl was working hard trying to keep up with the business but was not able. The tissues in the room were made up of old small boxes stuffed with tissues from larger boxes. At first we thought they were used. Also, the paper towel in the room was filthy like it had been stored in an old barn. The manager did get us a new one, but it was as dirty as the first one. It was like she was so used to the dirt that she couldn't see it. We did have excellent service from a clerk named Jhaun. He was very nice and helpful. It definitely not the quality of...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Residence Inn Sarasota Bradenton while in town for work. At first glance, the hotel seemed decent and in a nice area. The young lady who checked me in was pleasant and professional, which gave me a good first impression.||||However, things took a turn when I got to my room. I immediately noticed small bugs (smaller than ants) on the kitchen counter, and upon closer inspection, there were quite a few of them. I reported this to the front desk right away, and the young lady informed me—rather nonchalantly—that her husband would spray the next day. She offered to move me to a smaller studio room instead, but I declined, asking that the current room be sprayed.||||Unfortunately, things only got worse. When I returned to the room, there were even more bugs—not just in the kitchen, but also in the bathroom and bedroom. This was extremely disappointing and unacceptable for a hotel of this standard.||||The staff’s lack of urgency in addressing the issue, combined with the worsening conditions in the room, left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied with my stay. I would not recommend this location unless they address these cleanliness and pest control issues...
