Day 1: Arrived for check-in around 6:30pm after a long afternoon at the Mall of America. Trevor, I believe, was the attendant at the front desk who helped us. The first problem occurred when we got to our room to discover there was no sleeper sofa. After going back to the front desk we found out that Hotels.com screwed us. This hotel does not even offer a floor plan that contains 2 queen beds and a sofa sleeper. I called Hotels.com and they contacted the AmericInn. Between Trevor and the website something was eventually worked out so we could get a room for the same price we had booked the room for on Hotels.com. Trevor showed us 2 different rooms and we picked one we felt was suitable for our needs. Trevor also indicated that he would give us a 15% discount because of this problem with the reservation. He did not. My card was charged for the exact amount the room was originally booked for. The next issue this evening came in with the rollaway cot. We needed to get a rollaway cot in order to have a bed for everyone in the family (2 adults, 3 teens). After the check-in process was completed Trevor told us we could take one of the cots we passed in the hallway before when he was showing us the rooms. We had no idea if these cots were clean or not, they were all folded up and didn’t appear to have sheets. We got to our room and then asked one or 2 more times about a cot and Trevor eventually got one to us just before 9:00pm. I was very disappointed in the fact a hotel guest was being asked to determine if a cot was clean when it was sitting outside of someone else’s room. We don’t work for the hotel housekeeping staff, I’m not going to unfold a cot in the hallway to find who-knows-what from another guest. Through all of this with Trevor, he was very polite and he actually seemed to feel bad that Hotels.com screwed us. Next issue, the POOL AREA. The water was murky at best. The waterslide was roped off and there was a sump pump and tools lying around inside the poorly roped off area. All of the chairs and tables along the pool deck were rusted about 1-2 inches up from the bottom of each leg so I’m sure there were bits of rust laying around on the deck. Extremely disappointed in the pool area, a dirty experience.
Day 2: Breakfast. Typical of what you’d expect for a free breakfast at a hotel. The part that almost made me physically ill was when the lady attending the breakfast area came walking through with a clear container with what I’m assuming was freshly microwaved, frozen omelets. The container was over half full with yellow liquid and she just dumped it all into the serving dish for the eggs. GROSS. We ate back at our room after avoiding the eggs because the seating area was full and the tables that weren’t taken were dirty. We left our room around 10:15am, we removed the Do Not Disturb sign when we left. After a long, tiring day of sight-seeing around the Minneapolis area we came back to our room around 5:00pm. Our key cards did not work, had to go to the desk. I was told that Trevor apparently has a problem getting the number of days correct for the keys. When we opened up the room we discovered it had not been made up. We were gone ALL DAY. The front desk checked the housekeeping log and said the housekeeper indicated we had the Do Not Disturb sign on the door which we did but only until we left at 10:15am. Someone finally came to our room and we just asked her to clean the bathroom, she indicated that the original housekeeper should’ve come back to check on our room later.
Day 3: Skipped breakfast altogether and got the hell out of here. Will NEVER RETURN. We were on a super short, jammed packed family vacation and just wanted to relax whenever we returned back to the hotel but given all the hassles that was...
Read moreNo concern for health and cleanliness. Review of AmericInn by Wyndham Shakopee Near Canterbury Park Pending review This was supposed to be something fun for my daughter. Also i have been a restaurant and hotel chef for the last 13 years. We came here because reasonably priced and they have hot tub, sauna, whirlpool, water-slide, kid pool also they advertise a free breakfast(but not true) for my daughter to swim and play. Also i have been here a 3 times prior. And did not witness what i did this time. Upon entering it looked nice and clean. As one would anticipate during the pandemic we are in. But that is not so. We were told the pool was closed for the day at 750 pm by the front desk. Check in was fast and easy we got to our room was nice and big tv was small. Everything worked but all the housekeeper seemed to do was make the bed and remove the trash. Everything had crumbs on it floor was poorly vacuumed. I understand things get old; but you can clean old still. So I sanitized what I could and went to the bathroom and noticed we have only 1 wash cloth and 1 hand towel. For a king suite? I walk down to front desk with my child to ask for towels there is a new front desk person but no where to be seen until i looked in front of the fireplace and he's on his phone for 5 minutes with a friend it sounded like also i notice there were 2 boys and a man in pool when i was told it was closed until the next day. So i ask for towels and if we could swim he replies phone still in hand all the towels are being washed not available until tomorrow but i could swim until 11pm. Just sign up on sheet and if there's 10 people on the sheet i would have to sign up and come back. I said you if you dont have 3 towels how will i dry off? He said they are available in the am. The next day we go down to the pool and as we go in i see patches of black mold all over the floor. I go up the water slide and the water is so cold it takes your breath away.We go down grab the towels and i took a few pictures. We find every piece of furniture is rusted so bad its brittle. Someone had spit there chew out on floor there was a used bandaid on the floor patches of black mold in almost every corner. The floor of kiddie pool had dead bugs sand rock and looked like the same water that was there pre pandemic . None of the pool floors were close to clean and in the deep end of the waterslide pool way what looked like human feces. I get my daughter out and immediately tell the front desk there is a piece of feces in the pool. She tells me thats impossible they just cleaned the pool 1 hour ago so i show her all the mold and the filth on floor and in pools she says the black spots are from people smoking in pool area. I just shook my head and we walked to our room showered packed and as i checked out i said you should close that pool down it is not the best time to have your business be that disgusting. I spent 195 dollars to use this waterslide and pool i live 20 minutes away and I'm checking out a day early because that is disgusting. And we left with no refund. What a disgrace.Show less Date of stay:...
Read moreThe staff we encountered was a mix of friendly, helpful people and less knowledgeable and far less friendly. While some of the people there were pleasant, there was a lack of uniformity among the staff.
The lobby in the entrance is very nice. It is very large and has many soft comfortable seats, a fireplace and a small library of books to read.
We stayed in a king suite with jacuzzi. The room was very spacious with king bed, jacuzzi, dressers, television, microwave, refrigerator, coat and luggage rack, and vanity in the main room and a separate tub/shower and toilet room.
Cleanliness: Slightly below average. I am particular about cleanliness of a room. These were not terrible, but the tub was dirty, the floors were not very clean, and the sink had built up lime scale on it. The bed was clean and the pillows smelled fresh and clean. The dressers, tv, toilet, microwave and fridge were all satisfactory.
The bed: Slightly above average. There were 4 very flat pillows on the bed. The blankets on the bed were thin and not very warm. The mattress was medium firm and did not have any sagging parts.
The jacuzzi: Very nice size. The room had a very large corner jacuzzi. It is very deep and contoured nicely. It was not very clean. Upon filling the tub, we noticed particles of fuzz and some unidentifiable matter floating in the water. We drained the tub and refilled it before using.
The decor: Expected The room decor was pretty standard for a large hotel chain. The room offers a desk with two chairs, long dresser, two bedside tables, and large vanity sink with hair dryer.
The appliances:Expected There was an alarm clock, fridge, phone and microwave in the room and all were in working order.
Outside the room: Noisy While inside our room, we could hear a lot of people yelling in our hallway. We were located on the main level just past the front desk so we were in a high traffic area. This is a kid friendly hotel so be prepared for noise.
The Pool: Large family friendly We walked over to the pool twice with the hopes of using it however, it was jam packed both times with a lot of adults and children. They have a smaller kids area to play in (which would have been nice if we had brought our children) and a larger area for teens and adults.
The continental breakfast: Above average Bagels, mini-muffins, eggs, pancakes and a variety of beverages available on their breakfast. I was impressed with the coffee and tea bar. I am a tea drinker so it was a pleasant surprise to have a nice hot cup of tea with my breakfast. They had six different types of tea to choose from.
Parking: Scant The parking area directly in front of the hotel was very small and always full leaving us to park in a side lot. In the summer time this would not be an issue for us however, in below zero temps, it was not so fun.
Area Attractions: CASINO! We had originally planned to stay at Mystic Lake hotel but the rooms cost twice as much as AmericInn. The drive to the casino is less than four miles.
All in all, I would stay here again. I would bring better pillows, an extra blanket and some...
