A once nice hotel, it seems that it has gone under new ownership, continuing to charge a premium for what the hotel was, not what it has become. Luxury hotel costs for motel standards.
I generally don’t post very many negative reviews, so let the following serve as fair warning. Sitting at the front entrance, I heard customer after customer share similarly disappointed experiences.
Buckle up. This is the longest review I’ve written, so I’ll summarize: this is an expensive yet poorly maintained “hotel” that feels more like a boarding house. No room cleaning and does not include breakfast.
If you don’t read the whole thing (understandably), just skip to the important bit at the very end where people are actually living throughout the hotel; something confirmed collectively by residents, other guests, and hotel staff.
The good:
When you first walk in, it is a beautiful hotel. At one point in its history, this was probably a premier hotel in the region.
There’s a small, in-door pool that seems nice (I didn’t use it), although it’s more or less in the lobby, so you’re in your bathing suit are on full display for other hotel guests.
The bad:
The room doors don’t close very well; I almost left mine ajar more than once. You really have to slam it shut to get it to latch. Something I’m sure my neighbors appreciated at 5:30 AM about as much as I did at 2:00 AM when they were slamming theirs.
The cost of rooms was expensive, but the stay was made more expensive by the fact that breakfast is not included. Expect to pay $10+ per person for pretty standard hotel breakfast, free elsewhere.
I stayed for 4 nights and never got new towels, bed was never made, and trash was never taken out. I heard similar complaints from other guests as they checked out.
The in-room coffee maker was not cleaned by house keeping and still had an old pod in it from previous guests. Also, the disposable coffee cups were unwrapped and dirty.
At 6:30 AM, I requested more towels. I was told it would be two hours to get some because the desk clerk said that she was the “only one working at the hotel right now”… which, if true, seems problematic.
Generally, this hotel just felt unclean. Between the hallways being unvacuumed and various details I observed around the hotel, I decided to wear flip flops in my room since I was a uncomfortable with general the lack of standards.
Because of a faulty shower head, a significant amount of the water leaked straight down, hitting the faucet, and splattering all over the floor, even with the curtain closed. This would be a serious fall hazard for someone at risk for that kind of thing.
The key cards randomly stop working. Talking to others, this was a fairly common problem.
There are a lot of little details that would suggest this hotel is poorly maintained and likely only to get worse. The floor numbers on the elevator appear to be written on in white out. The credit card reader, vending machines, lobby games, and business center printers are all Out of Order. Public facing equipment looks kind of rigged together. It’s more of what you’d expect from a small, no-name motel rather than a Ramada that is charging an arm and a leg for room rates.
The ugly:
People live here? And maybe that’s more common than I think. However, when someone’s cat peaks out of the atrium window, suddenly you feel like you’re no longer staying at a hotel, but invading someone’s home.
Similarly, I spoke with someone who stayed on the 5th floor who told me that there were kids running up and down the hallway at all hours of the day and night. When asked, the kids said they all lived there. That would also explain the smell of Indian food that permeates the entire 5th floor, which would seem to imply people are cooking in their rooms at the hotel.
Between the long-term residents throughout the hotel and the businesses that appear to be running out of the rooms, it just all-in-all feels a bit more like a boarding house than the nice hotel it once was and claims...
Read moreI am so upset right now. I went down to Sheridan, Wyoming for Christmas and stayed at the Holiday Inn. my partner and I got a great deal, booking the room was easy with the main reservations line and I thought you couldn't go wrong with such a well known hotel chain. I also joined up for the rewards club, knowing we would be staying at the Holiday Inn every time we went down to Sheridan.
We were wrong.
We got to the hotel at 1AM on Christmas Day after spending Christmas Eve with Lance's family. We checked in, got up to the room, slept, woke up and wrapped presents and left at 8AM (I remember so well because we were running late for Christmas morning).
Yesterday, December the 26th, I checked my online bank statement to see something and noticed that there was an extra $40 charge to my card from the hotel. I called to inquire about it and supposedly a lamp shade was missing and I was going to pay for it. Obviously this upset me, a lot.
First, we had nothing to do with this lampshade. I don't even know what I would do with a lampshade. If I had broken it I would have taken it downstairs, notified the staff. If my dog had an accident in the room and I had been charged I would have been more than willing to pay. But for a lamp shade on a lamp that wasn't even in our room, I'm not thrilled at paying $40. We had nothing to do with it.
As I explained all of this to the general manager (who was quite pushy and rude on the phone, she just seemed to want to get me off the phone) she simply said it was there when the room was cleaned before we arrived and missing after we left. When I stated "Why would I steal a lamp shade?" she responded "I'm not saying you stole it ma'am, I would never accuse someone of that, but it is missing, there is nothing I can do."
So, from my understanding, the manager is saying I had nothing to do with it, but I still have to pay. We finished the phone call with her saying she would talk with her staff tomorrow and let me know.
I got a call from her today (December 27) and it is no longer just the lampshade missing, it was the entire lamp. It seems odd to me that the story is now changing, I'm still being charged (but not accused) and there is nothing she can do.
I get it, it looks odd, a lamp and/or lampshade missing after a customer stays, but if I had stolen it (which I didn't, I don't need a new one) why would I bring more attention to it?
I told the manager that I hope the lamp and/or lampshade is more important than two customers, because we will never stay with Holiday Inn again. I hope that Holiday Inn is pleased that they are getting $40 from innocent customers that will take their business else where.
I know it's just $40, but I didn't have anything to do with this lamp and/or lampshade, and as a recent college graduate, $40 goes a long way.
I will never stay at this hotel again, I hope this story is a warning for other people as well. — at Holiday Inn in...
Read moreUpdate: 5/12/2024 Not much has changed, rooms are still poorly cleaned, plumbing is iffy (my toilet didn't flush correctly, sink didn't drain and faucet leaked all over). I did once again find a deal online that came out to less than $100/night during graduation weekend so I was pretty pleased with that since they said over the phone that they couldn't do less than $150/night +tax. The pet area appears to have been expanded to include the entire grassy area on the south side of their lot but the fenced in portion is still just as terrible as it was on my original review. Grass was also about 8 inches tall which make cleaning up after your pet a little difficult.
New "update" from my last stay is they just leave exterior doors wide open. No restricted access, anyone can freely walk into the building from any of their access points. Not a particularly secure feeling when traveling away from your home.
The exterior trash cans were overflowing from Saturday morning until I left late morning on Sunday. Still has poor management/upkeep and keeps it 2.5-3 star rating. While not great, it is passable for a quick trip.
Original: Over priced, poorly cared for hotel with a lot of potential if only someone was there to care. Thankfully I found a discounted price by booking online (saved about $20).
Amid COVID-19 where cleanliness is king of it all I found dust bunnies and the air filter for the heater/air conditioner completely clogged show in pictures. This is where all the bad stuff is trapped and then later released back to you, the unsuspecting visitor...
On this trip I had contemplated bringing my dog, sadly she tore her paw pads chasing a bunny so I opted to leave her home and I am so glad I did. The "Pet Area" looks very nice from a distance but as you come up to it you realize the ground is covered by those prickly pine needles from the tree next to it. Now it is a dog run and I don't expect perfection but even my tough German shepherd wouldn't want to use it and judging by the many land mines leading up to it many dogs felt that way. The yard has 2 giant metal tie downs, most likely for electric pole at some point and a pipe sticking out of the ground with wires dangling out of it. All this is also shown in the pictures.
The over all facility is decent, the staff was great which is what bumped it from one extra star. I have stayed in much worse but I think I had higher expectations as COVID-19 scared a...
