Best Western Plus Sonora Oaks Hotel & Conference Center — Hotel in Sonora

Like most people I rarely leave a review unless the experience exceeded expectations or was less than expected. Hoteliers take note! This is THE BEST Best Western Hotel hands down and feels like a luxury brand hotel stay! Whoever is managing has set the tone for the staff. Each staff member is genuinely warm, professional and helpful. We were cheerfully greeted by front desk staff and the presence of other members on the grounds were available but non-intrusive, offering pro-active help when needed. Example, offering fresh towels as we approached the hot tub and grounds keeper making friendly small talk in an otherwise rainy/cold night while getting into our room. It felt like they genuinely cared and were there to help us. The hotel itself is very well maintained and felt safe, VERY clean, and well maintained. The check in and out experience was smooth and quick, despite being fully booked over the holidays! And the lobby offers nice hot tea, hot chocolate and coffee, nice touches! The hot tub was hot despite the cold/wintery night. Our room featured a nice keurig coffee maker (love this for early mornings!), a mini fridge for leftovers, and a microwave for a late night snack. And stocked vending machines offered convenient snacks and drinks right downstairs. Our beds featured FOUR fluffy, clean, pillows! And the thermostat was easy to warm up our room and keep it cozy. Overall I would HIGHLY recommend a stay while in Sonora or while visiting Pinecrest/Dodge Ridge. General location is fantastic and easy to find and parking is plentiful and felt SAFE. And there are many restaurant options nearby. They also offer a hot, continental breakfast, which unfortunately we missed this visit, since we were tired after holidays with family and it ended at 9am, before we had a chance to get our sleepy butts over there, ha! I would only recommend that they might consider extending it to 10am for lazy guests like me! : ) Overall, we really appreciated staying with them and definitely will again in the future as we visit this area often to see family and friends. The staff was so kind, friendly and helpful. We originally were going to only stay one night, but decided that after our wonderful experience we had, we would stay another night and make a mini vacation out of it. When I went to the front desk to ask if we may stay another night, the front desk staff was so kind and more than happy to make the adjustments for us.

When I asked for any suggestions of things to do the two women that were working the front desk gave me so many wonderful suggestions of things to do and even asked the ages of my kids, so they could make sure they were making suggestions that would be relevant and fun for their ages. We went to the Jamestown train museum, Columbia State Park and Even had a horse drawn wagon ride, shopping, etc.

Even when I had to stop by later to ask for directions, instead of verbals giving them to me, the staff took time to draw me a map, as I told them I get lost easy and my service wasn't great up here. They just always seemed to take the step to go above and beyond.

The room was perfect as well, everything we needed. The beds and pillows were clean, fresh, soft and ssoo comfortable!! The bathroom was clean and came with refreshing soaps, and shower needs that weren't just little bottles. The TV and WiFi worked great.

And even though it wasn't exactly swimming season yet, we still took time to enjoy the hot tub and pool!! The landscape was beautiful, there was a nice pathway with plants and flowers to walk your dogs or just take a walk your selves.

I could go on and on about this place and any Best Western Plus, we always enjoy our stays here and always stay at Best Western Plus because you just can't beat it. A 2 star turned into a 4 star... I'm a regular at Best Westerns because they have a good rewards program and good breakfast. Normally the BW Plus hotels tend to be slightly pricier and nicer but the one at Sonora was neither. The initial room we were given was on the first floor facing out towards the parking with a bathroom lock that didn't work well and a toilet that had a lot of water. The location of the room happened to be a spot near where some smoked and trucks back up and warm up their cars in the morning so our room got cigarette smoke at night and exhaust in the morning, so it wasn't the most pleasant. Explained my issue with the room to the front desk and they were accommodating and switched us to a 2nd floor room and everything was great for the 2nd night. The breakfast was good as usual at all the BW's and included in the price. No waffle maker but the staff is super friendly and makes you fresh ones in the back. The restaurant is recommended and has a huge selection, including a full Indian cuisine menu. Seemed strange given there weren't any other Indian restaurants in the area but we gave it a shot and were pleasantly surprised! It was legit Indian food.
