NEVER EVER STAY IN YOSEMITE INTERNATIONAL HOSTEL! This is by far the most disgusting hostel I’ve ever seen, upon arrival the hostel looks dingy and run down. The check in staff are very unhelpful in regards to information about local services such as Taxi’s and bus services and promptly pointed us to some flyers about local bus services. $10 for washing is robbery. No towel supplied upon check in instead you are required to pay $5 for what is only the tiniest hand towel. This is only the surface of some of the atrocious conditions we faced. The actual room can only be described as some sort of outhouse where the timber frame looked beyond worse for wear with tape keeping the door together. The beds were filthy with actual hair found on the mattress .. there was no toilet present instead you were requested to go behind this shack of a room where the toilet and shower facilities were with no actual door on the toilet .. the showers were scummy and slimey at any moment I was expecting some kind of rodent to run under my feet. The spider population within the hostel was around 10 times that of the humans present. I felt sick at the thought of staying here. The WiFi was pretty much non existent. It was impossible to stay the four nights we had planned here and instead cut our trip in half and moved on to more Adequate accommodation as the facilities here can only be described as unsafe .. unhygienic.. and just absolutely repulsive. When we expressed our concerns to the reception staff and handed back our keys and said we couldn’t spend any more time here they had absolutely no reaction and said they would notify the manager and closed the door .. due to the skin crawling conditions we grabbed our belongings and got away as fast as possible! DO NOT STAY HERE! Unless you want to catch bed bugs of course or enjoy crappy WiFi which may or may not work and don’t mind using outdoor toilet facilities where you can’t even flush the toilet paper down the toilet in a first world country. I’ve stayed in a fair share of hostels but the fact this place even qualifies as a hostel...
Read moreThe only good thing about this place is that it's near Yosemite valley. We paid our deposit online to reserve and then we had to pay the rest upon arrival but they would only except cash?? When we first arrived at the hostel no one was there so we followed the instructions on the window and it said go the office across the road from the hostel. You go up a dirt track and you feel like you in a teenager slasher movie from the 80s as the place is no office. The dorm was in a shed-like building next to the road side and all you can hear is the traffic all night and into the early hours. There was only one bathroom with a toilet shared between 3 other dorms! Ours was a dorm of 10 and even though additional bathrooms were apparently available, they weren't sign posted or clear to find. Neither the main entrance nor the room door were self locking- we found this out when returning from dinner to find we didn't need any keys to walk straight into our room. There were no lockers to securely store belongings, we were told to keep valuables in our car (that's if you have a car) but the car had to be in a car park 40 meters up a hill with no lighting, CCTV or any other security. It's far too expensive and the metal bunk beds are very noisy when anyone moves. The worst place I've ever stop in, very little value for money and would...
Read moreThis hostel is adequate. Kitchen good but during COVID anyone must have their own cooking pots plates utensils. Beautiful redwood tree off large deck. Private double room had small heater. Great hot water shower! We did not find the hostel to be dirty as other reviews reported. Floors, bathroom, kitchen and room, bedding etc were very clean. No mold in bathroom. Doors to rooms and buildings have locks. Very safe! Maybe there are new caretakers or better caretaking happening. Groveland is a sweet little town. We were camping in Yosemite Valley and decided to leave because rain and snow approaching as did many other people. All area hotels were booked and/or 2x or 3x the price. This is expensive compared to many hostels and not much charm but we were very happy to find it as it was our last option to be close enough to Yosemite to return if we wanted or enjoy the trails nearby Groveland. Proprietor was friendly but has enough English to make checking in smooth. Car with all our camping gear was in a safe private parking lot. We lounged at the Mountain Sage Coffeehouse. We walked around town and found a great sandwich shop with healthy chicken salad and gluten free bread. Everyone we talked with was friendly...
