Hungry Bear Cafe — Restaurant in Sonora

We went to the Hungry Bear Cafe this evening and ordered 2 pesto chicken sandwiches around 6:30. After about 45 minutes of not getting our food, I went to check on it. The employee told me that they had made our order, but someone else had grabbed it when they put it on the counter for us. Our buzzer to alert us when our food was ready never went off, so this explanation didn’t make sense. I asked if we could have a refund to make up for our very long wait. At this point, my parents, who had ordered one minute before we did, were already finished with their food. The employee called his manager and she walked him through how to refund us. I explained to him we still wanted our food. He said if they had already started making it, we could still have it. I guess he never communicated this to the lady cooking, because I went up about 5 minutes later to double check with him and he said that yes, it was already on the grill so we’d get it. But when 20 additional minutes passed and we still hadn’t gotten our food, I went and checked once again. The lady cooking came out and said she’d never heard of someone getting a refund and still wanting their food, so she wasn’t making them. They called the manager and she said if we wanted to pay again they could start making the food. Where we’re from in the Midwest, it’s extremely common to comp someone’s order when the service has been this slow or bad. Two of the employees did seem to be trying to help, but we heard three different stories about why we didn’t have our food yet, so it appeared they were lying to cover their bad service and disorganization. I guess we now know why they’re called the Hungry Bear Cafe. An appropriate motto for this company would be “come hungry,...

TLDR: don't eat here unless you like to wait for more than a half hour for your food, possible E. Coli, unprofessionalism, and bugs.

I stopped here yesterday on the way home from Yosemite. My bf and I ordered our food and sat down outside. There were lots of wasps flying around the tables so we went back inside.

After more than a half-hour I asked two ladies behind the counter who were gabbing if our food was ready. One lady said she didn't work there and the other lady said she'd bring it out when it was ready. I asked how long it would be since we still had more than a two hours drive home. The lady who didn't work there said something like "Well I guess that's my cue to leave" and the lady who worked there rolled her eyes at me and went to the kitchen. The food was already ready and just sitting there for who knows how long.

So the food. I ordered a salad. The lettuce was very, very dirty and I found bugs in it. To show my boyfriend how dirty it was I wiped pieces of lettuce on a napkin. Even small pieces of lettuce left large dirt streaks. Plus, you know, there were bugs in my food.

For reference, I have never left a bad review anywhere. I usually eat anything and my mom calls me a human garbage disposal. But dirty lettuce can give you food poisoning, or worse, E. Coli.

Avoid this place and either stay hungry or stop at the grocery store that is several feet away and just get a snack to...

We walk in and looking at the menu and the man just told us cannot have you in the lobby go to the back and sit down. Not even good morning. Very nice welcome then we’re trying to order at the register and he’s rushing us like we’re bothering him when we’re trying to figure out. If this is what we want to order we asked for a coffee and they were trying to see the sizes he said small or large very rudely. Not sure if the gentleman is racist, but was not a very welcome greeting. We didn’t order our food. We go sit down and we get one food to us and then the second plate was supposed to be two orders they only Made one we had to wait for another order and the pancakes were burnt. We didn’t wanna complain because we don’t know what they’re gonna put in our food. It’s very expensive $20 a plate very not nice made potatoes house potatoes look like they were from he brought up three days. No flavor he brought out our food and we asked for an extra plate to serve our child and it seem to bother him for us to do that. It’s very poor customer service not friendly not family orientated very disappointing will never come here again I wish I would’ve seen the reviews before I came to this place!
