Wow where to start...
I had a medical issue that came up unexpectedly just before my trip.
I understood that there was a no refund policy.
On Friday April 4th, I called Expedia - from the hospital - who told me that the refund would not be an issue. The only reason why I didn't cancel there and then was because I was waiting on further information from doctors.
I was discharged and went home on Saturday.
On Monday, at 6:20 am I called back Expedia. There were no notes of my call. Anyhow, they now told me they had to notify the hotel for the refund but the manager (PK) was only in at noon.
The hotel refused to give a refund (I was checking in that Wednesday @ 3 pm). Expedia stated that Theresa - front desk - had answered - and said no.
So I called Choice Hotels custom service number, spoke to an agent who said that third party (in this case Expedia) was responding for any refund.
I then called the hotel and spoke to PK...who stated the same, Expedia was responsible for the refund. As a gesture for the inconvenience he was going to give 40 000 points to my Choice Privileges Account. I didn't have one, so we set it up on the phone together. I have not seen those points in my account as of April 15th, 2025.
At this time before departure, I am now in the middle of Expedia and Quality Inn pointing fingers at each other.
I decide to go because I don't want to lose the money. I was on the fence. I was in the hospital because of a return of my AFib. Buy I should not have gone. It was a dumb decision that could have been avoided if both parties had worked someone out. I would have even paid a cancellation fee.
So I arrived at the hotel on April 9th. Check in. Front Desk agent states that on my last day-Sunday 13th-i can leave my bags with Front desk after checkout that there is no problem with that.
I get to my room it's fine. But the smell. I'm still not sure if it was weed, pee, or the air conditioner, or a combined of all of the above. I guess I just became accustomed to the smell over my stay. But it was nasty.
Everytime I decided to check out the pool I noticed that no one took care of it. There was one guest on the 9th who was cleaning out the pool. It didn't look appealing at all.
Breakfast was ok. They were out of sausages for a couple of days. Other than that - breakfast was good.
Good location close to the airport which is nice. Easy to get downtown Sarasota.
Last day on the 13th. I checkout with Teresa. I ask her if I can leave my bags there because my flight is at 6pm. She says no. Only after I say - wow you guys change like the wind - that she takes it back and says. You can leave your bags here at front desk but we're not responsible for them. Staff comes back here.
I didn't know what to think. Are you telling me you don't trust your own staff.. Also, it's Sunday. And the only person I see there is Theresa.
I left the hotel at 12:30ish after I had done a few things in the lobby. I had decided I would just take my stuff and go.
That was the hotel stay.
Update on the conversation between Expedia and Quality Inn. A supervisor - escalation tram- from Expedia emailed PK on April.12th (maybe 13th) again to request a refund.
Today April 15th, I received an email stating that it had been refused and was against their policy.
I am never staying at Quality Inn or using Expedia moving forward.
Update April 17th, 2025. After the AI response I received my review.
I'm about to bring the manager PK into my discussion with Expedia.
It seems to me that there has been a bit of dishonesty in what exactly is the policy for refunds when there is a purchase through a third party.
The hotel front staff and the manager PK at Quality Inn have both let Expedia know that they would not refund my stay.
Although both Choice Hotels and PK himself have stated to me directly via phone, that refunds are the responsibility of the third party - in this case Expedia.
Furthermore, I just checked my Choice Rewards membership and I still have...
Read moreYou cannot imagine how worse it was!! We booked this hotel for 4 nights and it was our big mistake. The building was too old, the hotel posted pictures are not real at all!! The first night we were so tired and just checked in to have a place to stay and rest, so we did not see anything. Please look at the images that we captured in the morning, they tell you everything. The second night we saw two roaches that went into the radio device which was located on the nightstand next to the bed. Since the carpet was very old and there were so many cracks on the walls, they could not control this issue obviously. After seeing the roaches we went to the reception to talk about our concern. The reception told us "we have roaches, bugs, and lizards here and it is not an issue!! It is very common and you should not be scared." He was trying to convince us that you are visitors here and you do not know anything about the area while it was our fourth trip to Florida and we have not ever seen such a bad hotel and services. Then he gave us the key for another room to stay during the night. We went to the other room and once we entered, we saw a big roach on the desk!! You cannot believe how bad it was. We could not sleep that night. Again we reached to the reception and showed a photo that we captured from the room, he told us that the manager will come to his office at 9:00 am and he will full refund our expenses. So, We were waiting until 9:00 am to see the manager (Mr. P.K. Parmer). Once he came, he went to his room and a lady came out and told us the manager would come at 10:30 am and she is responsible for our issue (first lie). We described the nightmare that we had and she told us she is only a worker there (second lie) and she will try to do her best to assist us. She asked us to pack our stuff and when you come over to check out, she will full refund our expenses and will find out another hotel room for us (third lie) because it was new year's eve and we could not find another place with the same rate. We went to our room and packed everything. After 20 minutes she called one of us (we were four adults) and told us that she can only compensate for two nights and they are not responsible for anything else and she is out of the office and wold not be available for the whole day. After this phone conversation, we went to the reception again and she was there (fourth lie)!!! We talked to her for about two hours, there were two other lady staff who were only looking at our conversation and afraid of her to talk. They ruined our whole trip by their services. In the end the lady (Ms. Parmer) claimed that she is an owner of the hotel and did not allow us to see the manager. She was very rude and every second she was trying to change her word. We are going to report this hotel to the health department and let them investigate. Please do not waste your money and time to even think about...
Read moreUpon checking in at the hotel the manager was training a new employee. Even though the new employee was doing everything she could to take in the information passed down to her the managers attitude was lacking and very unpleasant towards the new employee. They proceeded to check me in and gave me my room key. I then proceeded to my room to find out that they gave me a room with double beds versus what I reserved and payed for a king suite. I proceeded back to the office to inquire about the mixup. I was told that there were no king suites available they were all full for the night. I questions that considering the room directly next to mine was a vacant King suite. I then questioned why I was still being charged the rate for a king suite even though I was put in a double bed room. I again was told by the manager that all king suites were occupied and that she could not change the rate on my reservation. So I was officially paying more for a cheaper room which is unacceptable. After trying to resolve my room issues I proceeded back to the room and found there was no Internet which the hotel had advertised on their webpage. After unpacking in the room for the night I discovered the sheets were dirty and it appeared that housekeeping didn’t even vacuum the carpet. I have to say I did sleep well thanks to the location being off the road and away from noise tucked in the back of the lot. I woke up the next morning refreshed and ready for breakfast when once again the day started on a bad note due to the hotel. I was walking to the lobby to get coffee at 5:55am and was told by the morning desk agent that I’m to early for breakfast. I told the agent, which was smoking outside, that all I want was coffee. He then said I would have to wait for coffee as for it wasn’t ready. After learning more bad news I just decided to check out and go eat breakfast and have coffee somewhere else.
No internet, Dirty sheets, Dirty carpet, No coffee, No breakfast, Unpleasent attitude from both the General Manager and other desk agents......... all for a premium price I was charged for a double bed room since my rate couldn’t be changed by the manager.
I am a platinum elite member with choice hotels and stay frequently with the chain due to work and this experience was hands down the worst of any choice hotel. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone when there are 2 other choice hotels in the same price point less then...
