I was very disappointed by my recent stay at Detroit Marriott Southfield. I am a rewards member and often look for Marriott facilities when I travel. I encountered a few minor issues that once combined tarnished my feeling for Marriott. First, two weeks prior to my trip I contacted Reservations to change my room type (from King to 2 Doubles). I originally planned on travelling alone but ended up bringing a friend. When we arrived, this request had not been completed and there were no double beds available. Luckily we were able to get a King with a sofabed. I asked the agent if there were any drink tickets or anything complimentary for the inconvenience, she stated “we don’t do that anymore.” The second day of my trip, we were in and out of the hotel all day. When we returned in the afternoon, I went to the bar to get a hot tea. There was no one there to take my order. My friend went to the front desk for help because there were two agents there. She stood there for more than 5 minutes and neither agent acknowledged her. They never said hello or “I’ll be with you in a moment”. While my friend waited with the inattentive agents at the front desk, someone came to the bar and was able to take my order. During my stay, there were also sports teams in the hotel. As a mother, I am aware that children make noise and need space to play. With that being said, the hotel elevators and halls are not the proper places for children to play, especially as early as 7 am. As a former Marriott employee, who worked in a hotel that accommodated sports teams, I’m aware that there are ways to keep the parents responsible for their children during their stay (signed waivers). After these things occurred I asked to speak to the MOD. I cannot remember her name, but it was Sun. Apr. 30 in the early afternoon. I express everything that is written above and she was willing to listen. Yet, when I finished, she said “well, what do you want me to do for you?” I told her I just wanted to inform her of what was happening during my stay. As someone who has worked in customer service for over 20 years, I was saddened by the lack of concern by the staff at this hotel. Whenever I’ve encountered an unhappy customer, I did my best to offer an alternative or at least a coupon for their next visit. I have family in the area and this hotel is the closest Marriott to their home. But, I will not be returning to this site or recommending anyone else...
Read moreI was not impressed with the Southfield Marriott hotel. Upon arriving, I noticed right away that my room looked like it was not clean. There were food crumbs on the floor, in the bathroom, and on the bed sheets. Additionally, the bathroom also had hair in the shower, on the tiles, and the sink; the mirrors were all streaky/unclean; the toilet did not flush properly. Everything in the room also had a noticeably thick layer of dust on it, the couch had stains, and the walls were splattered with (food)? spots. I called the front desk to inform them of this and ask for another room. They assured me that someone would be up right away to attend to the dirty room. I waited for 20 minutes and no one showed up. Therefore, I called the front desk again and they said they weren’t aware of the issue. After I reexplained the problem, they told me they’d send a manager; the manager came up about 10 minutes later. He checked the room and said he’d get me another room. I waited for about 10 additional minutes and was finally given keys to a new room. However, I wasn’t offered any type of apology for the unclean room, which was very disappointing. When I arrived to the new room, I was just ready to relax; I was tired from the drive there and having to deal with the room issues. But when I looked over the new room, I noticed that it had the same issues as the last one! It was very dusty, the bathroom didn’t look like it was cleaned thoroughly, and there was debris on the floor. I couldn’t believe it! I figured the manager would have looked over the room prior to giving me the key. But that didn’t seem to be the case. At this point, I knew I didn’t just get a “bad” room the first time around. It seemed all the rooms were cleaned poorly. I really didn’t want to deal with having to wait around again and move rooms, so I just stayed in that one. Later on in the evening I received a call from the front desk. They were confused on what room I was in and didn’t seem to realize I switched rooms. I filled them in on the change and also informed them my new room was not any better. After reading over guest reviews for this hotel, it seems that this is a reoccurring issue. Overall, I was very, very disappointed in the entirety of my stay here and this hotel does not do the Marriott...
Read moreI recently spent one night at this property and found it to be an excellent choice for accommodations. The lobby area is well maintained and is stunning with marble floors and ample space for people to meet for discussions. As you enter the hotel straight ahead is a full service bar and just to the left is a full-service restaurant. The end door poor is well maintained with plenty of towels and the exercise room has the latest state of the arts gym equipment. ||Upon entering the hotel I was greeted by JaQuallia and Mariah, both of whom were professional and friendly and the acknowledged and thanked me for my Lifetime Titanium status. Checking in went smoothly and because of my elite status the associates stated that my sleeping room would be on the 6th floor near the concierge lounge. Even though the lounge was not open, it had been stocked with snacks and drinks. Because of the concierge lounge being closed on the weekend I was provided a free breakfast in the restaurant. The two front desk associates provided me with suggestions for dinner and since it was a holiday, even called the restaurant to make sure they were hope.||I found the room to be clean and having ample space with large windows and double shades to block out light from street lights or the morning sun. Even though this Marriott is located near a busy street I could not hear any noise. The bed was comfortable, the large screen tv worked perfectly and had extra movie channels. |I prefer feather pillows for sleeping and upon my request house keeping quickly brought them to my room.||The breakfast was buffet and contained hot and cold items and fresh fruit. During my stay the outside temperture was very warm and the morning front desk associate offered me a bottle of clod water as I was checking out. ||One can only become a Lifetime Titanium member by staying in lots of Marriott hotels. I can honestly say that in terms of service, accommodations, and efficient staff, this is one of the best I have ever stayed in. There is an old saying "a fish always stinks from its head"., meaning if an organization is poorly run, it is because of leadership. In this case the Southfield Marriott evidently has excellent leadership. I would never list this property as a 3 start hotel, it is...
