The food is flavorful and cooked well, the service was great. The owner is very personable and friendly, and we felt very taken care of. The space feels a little large, but it is modern and clean, and has some really cute little loungey areas; one seating area with a couch is near a fireplace, and it's really cute over there. The bar is lit nicely.
For drinks, we had the owner's recommendation, which is called "bath water." Inspired by Salt Burn, this cocktail was made with a smoky mezcal and coconut water, rimmed with coconut shavings. It was smoky and sweet and tasty. I also had a basic vodka soda, and it was a nice pour. I do wish they had a selection of signature drinks, but if you know what you like, they've got you covered. For food, I had the lamb chops and green beans, and my friend ordered the salmon, green beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was seasoned very nicely and cooked well; the zip sauce was really yummy on the lambies. Both of us really enjoyed the green beans which come with carmelized onions on top, and were a standout side, where at many restaurants I feel like they're either under or over-cooked and lack any flavor. Mashed potatoes were good. I was excited to hear that they'll be trying more specials coming up soon; I'd love to see what they come up with because their catering is so good.
I think this is an ideal place for lunch right now; if I worked in Southfield, I'd be here more often, as there aren't too many places like it. It would also be great for happy hour. I will say that I think the lighting was a bit too bright for dinner; I'd suggest they dim those lights. We were also there during the transition from dinner to R&B night on a Saturday night, and that time between 9 and 10:30 is a little odd - seating is removed, lounge furniture is brought in, and a DJ sets up and begins to play music. I think it would be ideal if they broke the space up a bit with more permanent soft seating, but I imagine the logistics are tough going from lunch all the way to late night. I do love that they have a big dance floor - this would be a great place to have a birthday party, and it looks like some promoters are packing the place out for events. I'd love to see that continue.
Overall, a good experience, and I'd love to try one of their...
Read moreI am writing this review from a place of pure revulsion and anger. My recent visit to Salt + Ko was not just disappointing; it was a truly horrifying experience that has left me feeling sick to my stomach. This establishment isn't just "dirty" – it's a biohazard, a breeding ground for pests, and a blatant disregard for basic human sanitation.
From the moment I stepped inside, a foul, stale odor hit me, a clear sign of neglect. The tables were visibly sticky, the floors looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks, and the restrooms were an unspeakable nightmare of grime and overflowing bins. I tried to overlook it, hoping the food might redeem the abysmal atmosphere. I was tragically mistaken.
Mid-meal, a cockroach brazenly scuttled across our table, mere inches from my plate. My appetite vanished instantly, replaced by a wave of nausea. But the horror didn't stop there. As I recoiled, I then saw a mouse dart from under the booth adjacent to us, disappearing into a crack in the wall. This isn't just an isolated incident; this is clear evidence of a systemic, severe infestation.
To say I was disgusted is an understatement. This isn't a restaurant; it's a health risk waiting to happen. The presence of roaches and mice indicates a severe lack of hygiene, pest control, and fundamental respect for customer well-being. I immediately left, unable to stomach another second in such a revolting environment.
I urge anyone considering eating here to stay far, far away. This place needs to be shut down for a thorough cleaning and inspection. No meal is worth the risk of consuming food from an establishment that clearly harbors such unsanitary conditions and rampant pests. This was not just a bad dining experience; it was a public...
Read moreHave you read reviews and thought....,"Wow, I hope this place is all they say?" That was my exact thought with Salt and Roe. I came during the lunch hour. There were 2 other guests.
The Good: Location is not to bad, off of telegraph in Southfield inside of the Radisson (who knew they were open again? 🤣) with its own entrance. Atmosphere was very quaint. Mimilistic, comfortable and clean. Presentation of food was great.
The Rest:
Menu is sparse, and a little expensive for the offerings (steamed broccoli for $6 and its about 4 - 6 stalks, mostly stem).
They didn't have the only dessert on the current menu (a sweet potatoe fritter) which is why I initially visited.
I asked for coffee, which they do not serve but I wasn't aware. My waitress (who stood behind the bar on her phone more than serving) got my coffee from the hotel (which offers coffee for FREE in the lobby) and brought it to me in a very pretty glass goblet style cup 😬, no sugar or cream or question if needed. So of course I ask for it and she brings 2 of each and nothing to stir 😤, so I get up and approach the bar where she is on the phone and she hands me a stirrer with no gloves on her hand after playing on her phone 🤢, I declined and got a covered straw. My coffee was $3... I asked for a refill, she brought me ANOTHER glass and my bill reflected 2 cups of coffee totalling $6. For FREE coffee. 🤔
I ordered the jumbo wings, which are actually wing dings, they were beautiful....and didn't taste bad. Not worth the $16 for 12 (Buffalo wild wings are better).
To say I was dissatisfied would be an...
