UPDATE....01.09.25 This review is so sad compared to the previous review I submitted. Today my daughter and I came to enjoy Daebak as we have so many times since my 1st review in 2022 but today's visit is nothing like the previous enjoyable visits. Upon coming in i slipped in oil on the floor and almost fell, had my daughter not been next to me to grab on I would've fallen but thankfully I wasn't alone. The young lady that was escorting us to be seated absolutely didn't care! She looked at me but didn't inquire if I was ok or not. ALSO, I literally had to say to the staff to clean up the oil, really? Then we asked to be seated in an area that wasn't so cold and was told that they had to make sure there was no reservation at the table we requested and there was not. After we were seated I asked the person that escorted us in if the grill could be turned on and She said, "I have to ask someone bc we havent been seating anyone here bc the heat is broken on this side." REALLY! The young man that seated us just said he had to make sure there were no reservations for the table but she said the heat was broken!? Like if that was the case why were we allowed to sit there and why would reservations be made for that section?? It's now becoming apparent that we're not welcomed and then she asked, "Do you want this menu?" After saying yes, she laid one menu on the table and walked away with the other in hand. At that point my daughter asked if I wanted to stay and I put my coat on and we left. I get in the car and called to speak with a manager to let them know about what had just transpired and her response was *I'm sorry if you come back next time, give the staff my name and I'll have free appetizers comped for you". NOT ARE YOU OK or anything like that. NOT I APOLOGIZE FOR THIS BC NO ONE SHOULD BE TREATED THAT WAY IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT, AND I'LL MAKE SURE THE FLOOR IS CLEANED SO NO ONE ELSE IS IN DANGER OF SLIPPING/FALLING. Just I'll give you something free when you come back. I let her know that I won't be back as the whole experience (as brief as is was) exhibited a side no customer should ever experience, with no concern as well as the feeling of being unwelcomed. On top of the insult of being comped free appetizers as if I came there to be mistreated for free appetizers on my NEXT visit. Oh no thank you, Ms. Courtney, manager at Daebak...I doubt I'll feel comfortable there again after this experience. I can and will patronize another Korean restaurant where i won't be dismissed before I even order.
The food and the service is A1! I order from them often for this reason. Unfortunately for me, there was a situation caused by Uber Eats today, 05.29.22 and the manager of Daebak, Ms. Sarah, went over and beyond to get everything straightened out. I really appreciate all of your help and for going the extra mile to assist me with the Uber Eats issue. You all really deliver on being the best! Thank...
Read moreMy mother, as a Korean, took her friend for his birthday here because she wanted to show him Korean food for the first time. God, what a mistake and I hope Korean food isn't ruined for him after going here. First of all, the food was terrible quality. The meat was gummy and was not at all what galbi is supposed to taste like. Both of them had trouble chewing through each piece of meat. They didn't end up finishing it and just ate the potato salad side dish because that's the only thing that tasted close to decent. And my mother paid 90 dollars for this, including a 20% automatic tip for virtually non-existent service? Normally, for most K-BBQ restaurants, the servers check on the meat grilling for you so you can have a proper eating experience without worrying about the meat burning. Apparently there was none of that. The servers also didn't look like they want to be there and they looked inconvenienced to do their job and what they're paid to do. Korean restaurants are known for good food and good service. This restaurant had neither and cannot be considered a Korean restaurant. The name "Daebak" (Jackpot) is absolute bull. To this "restaurant", please stop scamming the community - either improve your food and service, or close up. The Korean community also should not have to pay money for this kind of crime to Korean food. To customers, give your hard-earned money to other Korean food joints in Ann Arbor like Tomokun KBBQ or Seoul Street, or places in metro Detroit like Daejanggeum in Troy. This place doesn't deserve your money and they act like they're...
Read moreThe service wasn't too great. I am not sure whenever it was the loud music, or the waitress was having a rough day, but she was quite impatient and seemed irritated. However, the short-haired blond guy was super nice. Even though he forgot to teach us how to use the barbeque, he really helped us out and made our stay easier. Also, the greeting lady was wearing a hoodie and a beanie, which isn't a problem for me, you can dress however you would like. But, in this case, it was hard to distinguish if she was a guest or if she was working there because of her casual clothing. Despite of the loud music and moderate service, the food was excellent. Especially the ribeye, it was delicious and, it was fun barbecuing it on the grill. Nevertheless, one thing which truly surprised me was that the cold soup (I don't remember the exact name) was really good. Usually, a soup is served hot, so it's a very interesting and creative approach to the dish. But, I do wish that they served hot tea here. I think that having some green tea or some other tea which originated from Korea would bring up the experience. To conclude, the service was alright. The music was a tad bit too loud. The food was great, and I had a pretty good experience here. I would reccomend this place if you like to explore different cusines, prefer more casual restaurants, and aren't looking for a place which...
