Big Boy — Restaurant in Southfield

I went to this Big Boy about a month ago for the first time and it was fantastic, everything was cooked well and delicious. Today I went and had a very different experience. I ordered the spaghetti, which comes with salad and garlic bread, and my friend ordered the fish and chips with a salad instead of coleslaw. We each got a drink.

My salad came out first, and my friend's never did. Eventually, my spaghetti came out without garlic bread, and my friend's fish and chips came out with no salad. When the waitress set her food down she said she'd be right back with the Cole slaw, and my friend reminded her that she had gotten a salad. A few seconds later, someone dropped a plate on the table with what I assumed was supposed to be the garlic bread - it was a Grecian roll that had been squished on the flat top, no butter or garlic was involved.

My friend started to eat her fish, but it was overcooked on the outside and yellow on the inside. It definitely didn't flake like fish was supposed to. She sent the whole dish back and asked for a grilled cheese instead. The grilled cheese came out - 2 pieces of bread and 2 pieces or cheese. Then we got our bill. My friend had been charged $8.99 for a Slim Jim and fries. Not to mention the 2 $2.69 drinks that we never received a single refill on in the 2 hours that we were there.

The woman who took our payment was great and helped us correct the bill, but it shouldn't have been necessary...

I started coming up to Big Boy a couple of months ago. Originally it was just a one-off visit but my experience there was really positive so I kept coming back. Now I am there every Tuesday morning...and for several reasons. One is that the breakfast platter I get is top-notch, with a solid serving of fresh s scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and sourdough toast. Price is reasonable and the atmosphere is very comfortable. However, what has really kept me coming back week after week, are the employees who are very friendly and provide super service every time I'm in there. Specifically I must call out Syrenity, my server, who is extremely friendly and very good at her job. I never have to ask for anything, she's totally always on top of it, and a really fun person to be around. Then there's Holly, who won me over immediately by cooking my bacon exactly as I like it (almost burnt, but not quite) and has gone on to be a very warm and inviting presence during my visits there. After just a few visits, I realized I had no choice but to make this a regular haunt and I doubt that would have happened had I not been treated so kindly. So, in the end, I suppose this is a long-winded way of saying this is a quality establishment with great food and service and I recommend it heartily to anyone who is looking for those...

If I could put 0 I would. Girlfriend and I walked in, never been to a big boy of that style. Waited because there was no seat yourself sign and employees were behind the counter and walking around. Waited 5 minutes while 2 customers went up to a counter to pick up carryouts. Finally a man asked if we needed anything, I replied yes we’ve just never been here didn’t know what to do whether to sit or order at the counter. He said sit down someone would be with us. We waited 10 minutes while multiple tables around us were waited on by different employees. We walked out and after we left I called spoke to a man who claimed to be manager, explained my situation he said well you left so what did I want him to do, then said I was getting smart when I said at this point I wanted to know why we were ignored, and he hungup. They were not overly busy or under staffed at the time we were there. Beyond ridiculous and whoever that manager was obviously does not know how to run a restaurant or deal with customers at a professional level. Will not be back. Too bad big boy used to be decent. Would love to talk to the owner concerning my experience I’m sure our visit and our waiting was caught on...
