I needed to book a hotel room for an overnight work trip and this hotel came up as the #1 traveler ranked hotel, so I decided to try it despite my uneasy feelings based on a bad experience at another Comfort Suites down further south in IL. I have stayed at other hotels in Springfield that turned out to be less than desirable but this one definitely exceeded my expectations. When I booked the room, I asked for a quiet room since I would be using some of my time in the morning to review notes and prepare for an important work task later that morning. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by a smiling friendly employee who asked if I would prefer a second or third floor room (I chose the top/third floor so I wouldn't hear any noises above me). I grabbed a warm cookie wrapped in plastic and a cup of lemon infused water, which are amazing touches and delicious treats for guests upon arriving and after traveling for hours in some cases. I entered my room (number 317) and found that I had indeed been assigned a quiet room away from any highway noise, so I was pleasantly surprised because a request for a quiet room is not always granted. The room itself was quite spacious with a separate area for the fridge, microwave, and food countertop; a separate sitting area; and a long countertop extending the entire length of the bathroom. The bed and pillows were comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. The only downside here that bumped my review from 5 stars to 4 stars is that there were only three tissues left in the box, all of which I used, and there was not enough toilet paper, so I ran out as I used the restroom for the last time before leaving and had to use my own Kleenex. Most hotels have a spare toilet paper roll and/or spare tissue box, but I did not see any. Overall, a very comfortable stay in a very...
Read moreFirst I would like to commend the girl at the front desk. It was around 10:00 pm when we arrived, along with many others that came from the Solar Eclipse. There was a line and many more were coming in. The girl had to handle check-in's as well as phone calls and she was by herself. She was patient and pleasant and never lost her cool. Having to deal with a large amount of check-in's who were probably tired from a long trip and phone calls She deserves a metal.
I really liked this hotel, it was very clean and the staff always attentive and friendly. The room was very spacious; nice sitting area, a nice little area with a counter to prepare food, make coffee etc. They opened up an extra room for breakfast to accommodate the overflow of people which was great. They had a variety of items for breakfast. Ice water with lemon was always provided in the lobby. We also got a 10% discount at "Smokey Bones", right across the street, for staying at the hotel, a nice plus. When checking out we were going to buy some water bottles for the road trip home and the manager said before you do that let me get you something, he gave us 4 medium size bottles of water, no charge.
I would certainly stay at this particular hotel if I visit Springfield again. Not only was it a great place to stay it was in a great location, short trip to downtown Springfield, and many restaurants...
Read moreThe room looked nice, with nice stone counters. The beds could be accessed from only one side.
There was no one available to check us in upon arrival as only one counter person is ever on duty. My disabled wife had to sit in the car while I stood helplessly waiting for that one counter person to return. Upon finally getting our room, we found clothing in the bathroom from a previous "guest."
The room had a nice little sitting area with a pull out sleeper couch should such a thing be needed. However, the sitting cushions were flat and thus, the couch was very uncomfortable to sit on. We used the indoor swimming pool, which was nicely sized for a hotel pool. The water was a bit chilly, but we eventually warmed up to it, so to speak.
The morning breakfast was skimpy on cereal and fruit choices, but the coffee was good and was available well before breakfast hours, and the waffles and scrambled eggs were also good. All the staff was friendly.
This hotel needs to spend the money to have a second counter/chech-in person available and get DVD players that actually work properly (DVD players are available upon request). Other than that, one could do much worse when looking for a hotel of this caliber in the...
