Boy, I am on a roll but not in a good way.
I took my daughter and family out for a long overdue family breakfast and we decided on the IHOP closer to their home than mine. When we arrived they looked busy on the outside but discovered there was plenty of room inside and was greeted and seated immediately.
I noticed the high chairs on top were not clean so when it was brought out my daughter gave it a cleaning with wipes the best she could. Now it was three adults and a 15 month old well-behaved toddler and we were seated right outside an entrance to the kitchen. No big deal, we just situated ourselves accordingly.
We placed our drink orders (waters, OJ with meal, iced coffee and regular coffee) and looked at our menus. Took awhile but our drinks arrived and we placed our meal order for we three adults. All simple and pretty much per the menu.
While waiting on food I noticed the Man behind me (to my left actually) inform the waitress how his pancakes were wrong and she took back to correct. He ordered Blueberry pancakes and it lacked the toppings...oh, oh.
Then our food arrived. My SIL got something that was "suppose" to have sliced avocado on it but it looked more like guacamole to us. My daughter's came out but they forgot the blueberry pancakes and mine actually looked fine. Requested more butter and began to prepare my food for consumption while I waited on the butter.
My daughter's pancakes arrived but no blueberries. I also noticed that what little butter I had on my pancakes that I shared wasn't melting on the hash browns as they were barely warm. My eggs were like what I ordered so I began to cut them up while I waited on the butter.
My daughter's blueberry pancakes arrived but now they had whipped cream and the like on them, so she scraped it off instead sending back again. My butter was not melting on anything now so I went to season my eggs and...while the pepper came out, the rusted, yes, I said rusted salt shaker wouldn't allow any salt out so I unscrewed it and I discovered the salt was all clumped up from moisture. Concerned that it had been tampered with I grabbed one from another table and it was the same. Three more times I tried only to discover ALL their salt shakers were clumped together like kitty litter. Not good.
By now ALL my food was cool to the touch and my SIL had finished his whatever. And then my daughter discovered that her blueberry pancakes were fluid in their middle and the batter was uncooked. Not good.
Sent them back and just asked they be removed from bill as we had been there long enough. I did not eat my ham as I volunteered it for my grandson and that was fine. They said it would be thick BUT it was less than half the width I expected or saw on the pictures of the menu.
The waitress, who was a sweet girl, came back and said they were also taking 10% off the bill. HOWEVER, my daughter was still charged for the pancakes in her meal but by then we needed to leave for my SIL's "meal" had upset his system and he needed a bathroom ASAP.
To summarize, my daughter's meal was screwed up and we were charged for pancakes she never ate. My SIL suffered an upset system from poorly prepared AND presented food, and mine was so cool/cold that when it came out, butter would NOT MELT when placed on it. I will compliment them on the fact they provided me with separate dishes so no eggs would come in contact with what I provided for my grandson though - he is allergic to eggs. And our waitress was fine but frazzled from the kitchen screwups and having to apologize multiple times.
I did recommend they add unprepared rice to the salt-shakers but was told that the manager wouldn't allow it. I mean come on, ALL the salt shakers were clumped and several were rusty on the OUTSIDE of the cap, and that ISN'T RIGHT, NOR...
Read moreOn Sunday, August 8, 2021 at approximately 1:30 pm, my party of three arrived at the local Springfield, Illinois IHOP for breakfast.
Upon entering the establishment we were “floored” by the attitude and demeanor of an employee, later identified to me as “Alexa.” While waiting to be seated, Alexa was seen preparing a to go order for a customer already ahead of us. As Alexa was packing the order, she yelled from behind the hostess stand, “I’m glad we have cameras to see people out there waiting while the manger stepped out.” From Alexa’s tone, she was clearly upset over something prior to our arrival.
Next, Alexa the came from the rear of the hostess stand with a poor demeanor and attitude. She was rude and discourteous to me, my children and the surrounding customers and staff. When Alexa sat us down and he introduced us to our server, now know to me as “De’Nasha” (sp), she asked if we needed anything.
It was then I requested the manager who promptly came to our table. When I expressed my concerns of Alexa’s unprofessionalism, the manager assured me that Alexa would be removed from the floor.
Alexa and the unidentified manager (no name tag) went to a back room where a discussion took place. It was then that in plain view for all customers to see and hear, Alexa replied to the manager “I DON’T CARE THEY CAN EAT SOMEPLACE ELSE!” So we did.
After offering to pay for three drinks, the manager declined and told me not to worry. We left and went somewhere else.
I assure that this is not a reflection of all or most IHOP locations and this specific establishment with this particular staff has an underlying issue. In these uncertain times, employees should note that their actions are a reflection of the businesses they serve and their actions can and will be scrutinized.
My views, experiences and opinion with this specific incident is not a reflection of YELP and or their affiliates. Furthermore, not all IHOPS are the same and can be independently owned/operated.
I will assure you that me or my family will not return to this location. I hope that future training is in the future as I am not seeking any...
Read moreEverything about the visit was horrible. First, we ordered coffee and when we were offered creamer, they brought French vanilla creamer instead of regular without asking. When they took my order, I asked for a side of broccoli as it was on the menu and there were three pictures of plates with broccoli and I was told they didn’t have it and then I had to choose something else. The waiter could not find it on his electronic Pad therefore he believed they did not have broccoli. I had to ask him to go back and check on it and he came back out and said that it will show up as mashed potatoes on the receipt. I asked for mashed potatoes as my second order and clarified that I wanted broccoli and mashed potatoes. my boyfriend ordered the crispy fish platter that came with three pieces of fish. When the food finally came out, I had a double order of broccoli, no mashed potatoes, and he had only two pieces of fish. They didn’t provide us silverware and just set the plates down and said he would see about the other piece of fish and left. I had to get silverware from the other table and he never came back to give us refills, provide me an opportunity to ask for my mashed potatoes, or ask about the fish. We had to get to an appointment so when he finally did come to the table, we told him we did not have time for the other piece of fish and we told him we were not happy as he had gotten our entire order wrong and didn’t provide us with silverware or refills and brought the wrong creamer and he still charged us full price for everything. Since we were trying to make an appointment on time we did not have an opportunity to talk to a manager and had to pay for the meal and leave even though we did not get part of the items we ordered. When we paid, we paid with a credit card and the waiter handed my boyfriend the slip to sign with a highlighter to sign with. My boyfriend said “a highlighter?” And the waiter replied “doesn’t it work?”. Obviously, he has no idea you are to sign...
