I have family in the vicinity and have stayed here several times without incident. However my recent trip in Oct 2015 was a different story. We stayed 5 nights, 2 of which we required no housekeeping service, we got clean towels ourselves. The next 2 days we tipped Jennifer, the housekeeper $5 per day, she seemed to do a good job and was friendly. On the next day (for our last night), we tipped her $5 in advance, got towels and removed our trash and told her we would not need any other service (her supv witnessed this) and since our grandkids were visiting we all left for the tiny pool downstairs. Jennifer was there when we left. My bf took our laptops down to the car and since no one was supposed to be in our room, I felt I would be ok to leave my purse in a desk drawer. My granddaughters purses and some prescription meds were also left in the room. My bf came back to the room in a few minutes to get something and when he opened the door, he found Jennifer kneeling down by the desk with the drawer with my purse open. She jumped up and when he asked her why she was in our room, she said, "Uh, everything's ok, nothing is missing". She never answered. We made it clear, we needed no service and staff are to prop the doors open when working in them. My bf called me and the Mgr. I checked to be sure nothing was missing (she didn't have time). The Mgr again asked her why she was in our room......she still had no answer and she was fired on the spot. The Mgr asked if we want to call the police and in the confusion neither of us heard him. After thinking about it overnight, we spoke with the Mgr again the next morning when we were checking out. He comped us our last night and returned the 5$ tip for that day because of this incident. He then told us that we have to call the police and not the hotel, as he was not a witness to her actions. He made a veiled threat that we should be very careful of what we put on the hotel's FB page...... He would not give us the owners contact info, nor the corporate customer svcs contact info. He stated all complaints are handled locally, by him. We did call the police, and the officer advised us that since nothing was missing, a report would not be appropriate but since Jennifer was an employee of the hotel, the hotel Mgmt should have called the police. Bob, the Mgr gave us incorrect and/or misleading information more than once. I did complain to corporate when I received their survey email and I was contacted by the owner, who apologized and gave me back half of my loyalty points but no refund of my almost $300. So basically we paid $300 to have them let someone go through our stuff and violate our privacy. Jennifer goes scott free to do it again somewhere else and who knows how many times she searched our room and other customers' rooms and maybe stole from other unwitting people.
As a former loyal customer, I would have expected a full refund, plus all my points for our inconvenience, stress and worry. What should have been a relaxing, fun visit with family turned into a nightmare. This was not handled in a professional and open manner and needless to say, we will not be returning to this property, nor to the other property owned by the same people Motel 6 in Spfld, IL.
When I stayed there in Jan, a staff member (male) knocked on the door and entered without saying anything, before we could answer and when he saw us, he said, "sorry, wrong room." At the time I just thought it was an accident, but maybe not...... I won't be...

I recently stayed at Microtel Inn, and I must say—it’s the kind of place that pretends to be modest but delivers a full-blown hotel experience that rivals the fancy spots (minus the snooty attitude and ridiculous prices).
Cleanliness? Spotless. I’m talking “you-could-eat-off-the-bathroom-floor” clean (please don’t actually do that, though). The rooms are sparkling, the linens fresh, and the common areas look like someone’s constantly doing a deep clean just for fun.
The staff? Absolutely wonderful! Super friendly, helpful, and always smiling like they’ve had three cups of coffee and a motivational podcast. You don’t just check in—you’re welcomed like a long-lost friend returning from a world tour.
Let’s talk amenities. The room was surprisingly well-equipped—mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and a flat-screen TV that didn’t require a master’s degree to operate. Oh, and the view from my window? Chef’s kiss. Whether you're sipping your complimentary coffee or pretending to answer work emails, the scenery just makes everything better.
The location is also unbeatable—restaurants, cafes, and shops are just a lazy stroll away. And here’s a pro tip: show your room card at select nearby restaurants and get 10% off your meal. It's like your hotel key suddenly moonlights as a VIP discount card. Nice, right?
Now, the free breakfast—simple, satisfying, and saves you from awkward small talk at a diner. Bonus points for the waffle maker (because let’s be honest, it’s everyone’s favorite part of hotel breakfasts).
And here’s where Microtel’s sense of humor shines. You'll find a fun little note reminding guests that—due to the overwhelming popularity of certain in-room amenities—they're now considered for sale if you "accidentally" take them with you. Want that towel as a souvenir? No problem—we’ll just assume you bought it and charge your account accordingly. 😉
In short, Microtel Inn is everything you need and more, minus the fuss. Whether you're in town for business, a getaway, or just hiding from your responsibilities—this place has got...
Read moreWe had and extended stay here for business at the hotel. Most of the staff was amazing, Ms Robin and Ms Christy both were amazing and the only reason I even put one star. The main problem is the owner/ manager Jay Patel. He tried continually to raise the rates. They have pamphlets for there reward program all over the lobby but do NOT honor the program. They had trash and debris all over the parking lot. They do nothing for the prevention of COVID_19. The only cleaning done was by the front desk and that was vacuuming. The housekeeping is poor. We decided to make the change when we learned (from the front desk staff) that the owner/ Manager Jay Patel honored a contract with one of the homeless shelters for overflow the homeless . The parking lot is full of people drinking, walking dogs on chains ( link for a fence not a dog chain), Pool is open with NO REGULATION for social distancing or mask. The back door is broken to the main building. The elevator is very dirty with dim lighting from the bug filled lights on the ceiling. Guest leave trash and towels cluttered about the hall ways. The owner/manger Jay Patel is need of some customer service classes as well as some hotel management training. Sad to see such a nice hotel treated this way. Sad to see staff with such great potential being lead by a money hungry, incompetent, unprofessional leader. Moving to Springfield we will have several family members that will come and need a place to stay... we will NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone... and any chance I have to tell the story of how poor our experience was I will do so.... Shame on you Wyndam for allowing this kind of behavior to happen at one of your hotels....BTW I am a Diamond member of the...
