We recently stayed at the Carriage House in Strasburg and while there were some positives, our overall experience left a lot to be desired.
On the plus side, the location is great — just minutes from shops and downtown restaurants, which made exploring the area convenient. The owner was friendly and welcoming at check-in, and we appreciated the quiet atmosphere; we heard no noise from adjacent units. The room was mostly clean, which we also appreciated.
Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives for us. The room and bathroom were extremely small and felt more like a dated Super 8 or Motel 6, even though some renovations had clearly been done. The decor may be aiming for charm, but it still felt old-fashioned and cramped.
The TV was quite small and lacked HD channels, so most content looked pixelated and blurry. Worst of all, the room was oppressively humid. Everything felt damp — the sheets, the air, even the bathroom. There was a noticeable musty smell, and we saw what appeared to be some mildew around the tub area. It made for one of the most uncomfortable nights we've had in a motel.
The window AC unit was loud — more jet engine than gentle hum — and while it technically cooled the room, the tradeoff was constant noise that made sleep even more difficult.
At over $200 a night, we expected better climate control and a more restful experience. Unfortunately, the humidity issue was significant enough that we would not consider staying here again in the summer months. If the room had been better ventilated and less muggy, we might’ve been more forgiving — but as it stands, the discomfort was too much...
Read moreWe will never stay anywhere else! We frequent Lancaster & usually stay at Amish view. We always pass by The Carriage House when we get breakfast at the speckled hen but had never stayed. Decided on Carriage house literally same day because Amish view was sold out- and we’re so glad it was! We Stayed in the Miller Suite, the cutest & most homey place we have ever stayed at. Table was perfect for our take out from Agape. All of the furniture was so comfortable; literally all of them - couch, chairs, and the bed. I’d love to know what that mattress topper was because it was amazing. All of the trim work and the wood ceiling was beautiful and made the whole room smell like cedar. So nice to walk in somewhere and it smells normal and not like straight chemicals. Check in & out were easy and quick; you get a code to enter and just leave on check out date. No annoying key cards. They even let us check out an hour late- we loved the room so much we wanted to enjoy it a little while longer. Bathroom is clean, plenty of towels & pillows, and I appreciated the shampoo & conditioner with all natural ingredients. The Breakfast voucher is such a nice touch and truly appreciated. And bonus you don’t have to deal with their parking lot, just walk right across the street! Wish I could give more stars. Will never stay...
Read moreThis was our first time here, we stayed overnight for our anniversary and we were thrilled with our experience! We stayed in the king suite and loved having the couch! Everyone here is so helpful and friendly, the space is peaceful and clean, and the amenities are amazing! Breakfast at the Speckled Hen was a huge plus as well. We truly have never stayed anywhere so nice. They really thought of everything when recreating this place, from the cozy atmosphere of the rooms to the comfort of the beds, to the great amount of natural light, and the recommendations for things to do in the area, topped off with a complimentary breakfast across the street.
This location can't be beat..only a minute or 2 from the railroad, and we of course had to visit the creamery during the afternoon which was an easy 5-10 minute stroll from here, and for dinner and drinks we took that same walk down the main strip to The Tavern by Spring House Brewing which had great food and atmosphere. Lots of historic houses to admire along the way too.
The only small downfall is that the rooms aren't very sound proof so for those who are picky about that I figured I'd mention, but for us personally, besides a noisy girls trip gathering in the afternoon, everyone quieted down when it got dark and we had an enjoyable rest...
