Completely changed under new management. If you're looking for the original favorite staple flavors like Butter Pecan, Black Raspberry, Cherry Vanilla with the Bordeaux cherries etc. you won't find it here. Ice Cream is no longer made on site (they state it's from a "local source" called Urban Churn, an Ice cream shop chain with the closest location being Harrisburg.) So the title creamery is half accurate as they sell but no longer produce their own products.
Now on to the ice cream, it's mediocre at best for the price, melts fast and isn't as rich as before, probably processed longer in the machine to fluff it full of air to increase volume, and therefore "more" ice cream. I could eat a single scoop before and enjoy the rich and dense quality and be satisfied, not anymore. The ice cream is also adulterated with cheap filler, half the selection having some sort of sugar cookie/cake crumbled in, probably to reduce cost, but only from their pockets as the prices went up and they now charge for waffle cones! Onto waffle cones, they're thin and the ice cream seeps through it, again what does this mean? Watered down batter/less application on the waffle maker. Never did that before , and the previous owners didn't charge for them!
Regardless if it changes for the better, people will still flock and the new owners know this (very popular tourist destination). They're banking their success off the previous reputation of the creamery as it was before they took over, and are taking advantage of customers "nostalgia" while supplying low quality ice cream at higher prices. If you care about the customers, bring the flavors they want back, and if you can't find a supplier that will give you those options/quality what better than to make it yourself, I'm sure you have the equipment!
TLDR: Not good after new owners, none of the classic staple flavors, cheap quality ice cream. Save your time and money and enjoy a better experience especially if you're a tourist (locals too!) at Down on the Farm Creamery, Maplehofe Dairy, or Fox Meadows Creamery. All are superior to this failed...
Read moreThe last time I had an ice cream here was 22 years ago, when I was raising my daughter. The ice cream was creamy, full flavored, composed of cream and the servings were huge. Fast forward to today and here's what you can expect. Ice cream that is pumped full of air. The owner keeps the ice cream at an extremely warm temperature so that it quickly melts. I ordered a butter pecan, the same as before. About the only thing positive to say about the ice cream is that it had plenty of pecans. Absolutely no butter whatsoever. I'm surprised it's even called ice cream because the fat content is so low. And the help, absolutely terrible! When I complained about the serving size, that I ordered a medium and was paying $4.75 for it, she told me that that's what the owner instructed them to do. There was an African-American male who was also serving ice cream. I watched him with his bare hands handling garbage and wrapping it up. Then he walked over to the counter and asked me if he could serve me an ice cream. I told him no. And I waited for the other helper, a young woman in her late teens or early twenties. But that seems to be the way it is today, hire the cheapest labor you can get, employees recieve no sanitary habits and training, purchase mass produced cheap quality ice cream, serve very small amounts for exorbitant prices. Make sure the ice cream is pumped up full of air and served at a very warm temperature so that it quickly melts. And of course cut corner on all the flavorings and ingredients. The ice cream largely contains no cream. And the flavorings were terrible. I could have purchased a half gallon of ice cream from any grocery store and the quality would have been better. And instead of getting 6 oz for $4.50, I could have gotten 48 oz and the quality would have been far better. Terrible, absolutely terrible all the way around. It's nothing more than a tourist trap capitalizing like so many businesses in Lancaster County on the Amish. I will never return. McDonald's serves better quality ice cream and at least the staff there is trained and they employ...
Read moreWent here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Decided on here because my granddaughter is a big fan of chicken nuggets and milkshakes of which the restaurant had both according to their online menu. Unfortunately, their lunch menu has changed from what you can view on line (and on their digital menu display in store). I understand that there are supply shortages and being out-of-stock happens but they also showed pieces of fried chicken as being an option, but that also was not available. We ended up ordering the chicken tender meals and an order of broccoli and cheese bites. The gentleman who took our order was lacking in customer service skills, not that he was rude, but he was not very welcoming. It made me feel as if I was bothering him. The food took quite a while to come out, again I get it, many places are currently short staffed. When we did get it, it came out hot and you do get nice size portions. The chicken tenders were huge, so an order of 2 is more than enough. The downside was the tenders and the broccoli and cheese bites were very greasy. Maybe they needed to be drained longer, I'm not sure why, either way it took away from the taste. The milkshake I got for my granddaughter was also not the best. We got a chocolate milkshake and it just wasn't very sweet, in fact it tasted bitter. My granddaughter tried to add some sugar to make it sweeter but that really didn't help. I thought the food prices were reasonable but the ice cream was a bit expensive ($7 for a milkshake which I think was like around 20-24 oz). We didn't get any other ice cream besides the shake so really can't say much more about that. It's a cool place but I would skip the food and I am not sure the ice cream is worth it. I would probably ask for a sample before committing to a...
