Positives: Fashion Cents is a unique gem and I love it there! I shop and consign at the Strasburg location. I have always experienced great customer service in the store and reasonable prices for amazing finds and a large selection from clothing to household items and decor! I love their great sales that they run as well! Cashiers have always been very pleasant, helpful, friendly, cheerful, and respectful. Cashiers here are very speedy with check out when there are long lines, and are teamwork oriented to make that happen is great!
Negatives (I hate writing negative things and usually don’t, but…) I’ve noticed lately that FC has become pricey over the past year and a half and have begun accepting clothes that are really worn, rips, and stains on clothing.
Consigning has been super inconsistent and aggravating at Strasburg due to how inconsistent they are at accepting items!!! I have found exact items that I had tried to consign the day before for sale in the store. Other FC locations will take my items without a hitch while this location is super persnickety about item donations . I mentioned this to a cashier once and she even said “yeah, it’s weird the things that we do and don’t accept. Some things I think we should take and it would absolutely sell, we don’t take, while other things that won’t sell we take and sit on! but the least you can do is try to bring in the items.” It almost feels like a lottery system which I really don’t have time to play.
I have also encountered staff in the consignment area to be rude, short, and treating consigners as an annoyance. I have been given dirty looks if I ask for assistance in using the computer. Or have been met with stares and glares by staff as I’ve struggled to get the door open as my arms were packed with items to bring in. It wasn’t just me that this is happened to either. Some employees are considerate, polite and helpful than others, but if you are accepting peoples items and representing the store, common courtesy should be instilled in all employees , not just a handful. It has gotten slightly better.
I love this store as it is a unique gem and I hope things will continue to evolve and change...
Read moreFor a few years I really enjoy shopping at Fashion Cents and love to find treasures there. Recently, I took two baskets of clothes there for consigning. I realized they may not take more warm weather seasonal things, but I also had much cool weather clothes, too. Well, they hardly took any of my things. These were name brand, no stains, no tears/rips, within the last several year items. It looks like they took the things out and placed them back in my baskets without actually looking what they were. I had two brand new, with tags on, men's jeans (these were Royal King - which are a store brand I know, bought brand new with tags still on them) that we just bought a few months ago. They didn't fit my husband. They didn't take them. Many times I see pilly items, stained items, and torn items for sale in the store. There are many clothes in the store for sale that appear many years old, yet my things that are very nice (and many things went through by a prior employer who helped pick through items that she thought would sell) weren't taken. I am quite upset about this and the girl we were working with really didn't want to explain why so much was not taken for the store to sell. I know another person who buys name brand name clothes for her children and she tried to consign (she made sure no stains, tears, etc.) and much of her things weren't taken either. Is it who you know that they will take your things? Has anyone else experienced this? I did greatly appreciate that they didn't mandate mask wearing during the time our governor was making establishments do so. I was so glad to have that choice and not forced on us! THIS was a major plus of shopping here, especially...
Read moreI have been consigning here for several months. Out of the local options, I think you can earn the most money with the least effort at Fashion Cents. My first time consigning, I took in a TON of stuff, and they accepted 60 items (maybe 1/3 of the items I brought in). All sold within the month. After sort of figuring things out, even greater proportions of my subsequent consignments have been accepted. Most items sell in the first week. So far, out of the 100+ consigned items, everything has sold.
As a shopper, I do feel some frustration with old, stained, and even seriously damaged clothing hanging on the racks (a dress with the hem line completely ripped out). I am miffed sometimes by the items that are/are not accepted. On my last shopping trip, the store felt really picked over. I still found a few cool things for great prices to take home! But, my combined experiences leave me at a 4 out of 5. It's really a hit or miss place. If you're looking for something specific, you may not find it, unfortunately! I hope more people consign so their continue to be great finds for those...
