My family and I stayed at the Sturbridge host hotel and conference center, in Sturbridge, Massachusetts for Christmas. The hotel’s decor was stunning. The room that we reserved was a great rate for the perfect amount of space, with a bonus private deck on the back. The deck was perfect to sit out outside for the sunrise with a cup of coffee. The room was clean and had all of the WORKING amenities the website promised. The pool area was enormous and in the middle of a common area where you could rent rooms. So your suit could be right off of the pool. How perfect for watching the kids while mom or dad relaxes. The pool was a unique blob shape. It was large and warm and had plenty of space for everybody. They had a huge absolutely gorgeous Christmas tree set up. My son was obsessed with that and the bridge which were also located on the common area where the pool was. There is a restaurant on site that we ate at. It was quite delicious, but I did not get pictures because I forgot my phone. This is 100% a hotel that I would go back to again and again. If you visit, or if you have ever been, let me know what you think in the comments! #sturbridgehosthotelandconferencecenter #massachusetts #fyp #foryourpage #roadto10k #newcreator #realmomlife #momtok #familyday #christmas #hotel #newengland #bellhop #babiesoftiktok

I want to defend this hotel so badly but unfortunately I can't. I'm so incredibly disappointed by my stay here, this property has so much potential and it seems like management just does the absolute bare minimum. I'd hate to see this place just fall into disrepair but it seems like that's the direction it's going. I booked here as part of a wedding party block and reserved (and paid for) a "King Stepdown" room. I came in with pretty low expectations due to the other reviews but figured I wouldn't be spending much time there anyway so I wasn't too worried. Check in was fine, the man at the desk was very sweet, though I did find it interesting how much they reiterate "no smoking" while the entire property smells of cigarette smoke a good 80% of the time but I digress... I was pleasantly surprised when I made it to my room (no small feat given that this place is a MAZE). The room smelled slightly stuffy but otherwise seemed clean, spacious, and I really liked the layout. Unfortunately about 15 minutes after getting into the room, I noticed a wasp flying near the window, and soon after that noticed a 2nd wasp in the same area. I got a little closer to the window (cautiously as I am allergic and was not looking to make a trip to the ER) and quickly noticed the ABSOLUTE HORROR that was in the corner of the window (pictured). It appears the window and the wall were separated from each other creating about a half inch gap just open to outside, and no less than 6 or 7 wasps had welcomed themselves to my room. I called down to the front desk and explained the situation (including the urgency due to my allergy) and was told they would see what they could do and call me back. I waited 20 minutes before eventually vacating the room and going back down to the lobby to speak with someone face to face. The same man who checked me in found me a new room and gave me the keys and I thought that would be the end of it, but I was unfortunately mistaken. I was told the new room was "pretty much the same" as my original room and the only difference was that it would be a queen bed instead of a king (I'm usually pretty laid back so this was fine with me). What I walked into was a tiny, filthy room with a bed that was very clearly not actually a queen and more of a full. The security lock at the top of the door was broken off, and the AC unit in the corner was ancient and we could see through the vents that it was full of dust and dead bugs, we were scared to even turn it on. There was dirt on the walls, what looked like boogers smeared on the bathroom walls, the toilet was dingy and barely flushed, and the curtains to the back sliding door were so filthy that dust and debris would fall from them anytime they were moved. Everything about this room was a deep DEEP downgrade from the room I paid for, yet I was not afforded any sort of partial refund or even any transparency that I was being moved to such a vastly downgraded room. I would have requested another room change if I had the time, but I was in a wedding party and had events to attend, so I did not have time to play musical hotel rooms any further. The entire experience added so much strain to what was supposed to be a happy and fun weekend, as the bride also had issues with her room, as well as many of the other guests in the block, one of which arrived to a room with blood on the bed linens. I really hope the owners start to take these reviews seriously and take the steps needed to bring this place into the 21st century. If not, I hope they sell it to someone who actually cares about hospitality and is willing to take proper care of the property, because the current state of this property is pathetic and not at all suitable accommodations. Just very sad and disappointing to see a unique property being absolutely neglected.

First, I would like to mention that Joseph at the front desk was incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the location and its amenities. Joseph helped book my reservation over the phone months ago and was also at the front desk when we checked in. Joseph was great, please give him the praise he deserves.

NOW… the hotel itself seems decently nice when you walk into the lobby. You can clearly tell that the owners have put a decent amount of money into renovating the lobby area / indoor balcony area for some of the rooms. HOWEVER, I have never been more disgusted and disappointed with a hotel in my life. As soon as you get in the hallway where the elevators are for one side of the hotel you could tell that there is little to no cleaning done. Once entering the “King mini Suite” I had reserved for $200, I was immediately disappointed, turned off and disgusted with what I got for spending $200 for ONE NIGHT at this decrepit, hotel when I could have spent and same amount or less on a better and CLEANER hotel 2 minutes away. As soon as we walked into then”suite” we noticed that the carpet is basically black from all of the dirt, grime, and BLACK MOLD. The coffee table was never cleaned and had dirty coffee ring marks all over from the previous guests. ALL of the cabinets, stands, and every surface were completely covered with half an inch of dust and to top of it there was a massive dead moth on the counter in our bedroom which clearly proved, again, that no one actually cleans the room.. they just make the bed. ALSO, to make it even better, the hotel leaves an ENVELOPE on the TV stand with “House Keeping Tip” written on the outside, as if I am supposed to leave a tip for them in general let alone when they don’t even clean the rooms or make them safe to stay in.. I was absolutely appalled and completely offended when I saw this. That is highly unprofessional, and honestly pathetic when providing rooms that are filthy from top to bottom with tons of broken furniture items and a bunch of other issues. I have worked in hotels for half of my life and I can honestly say I have never felt so sick to my stomach in my entire life, and that’s not even half of it.

The absolute worst part about our “suite” room (ROOM 516) wasn’t the fact that everything is outdated, or that the amount of dust could kill someone, or the fact that the bed is about 25 years old, or that the pillows are a literal joke, or the hair all over the inside of the bed, or the fact that the balcony is a very dangerous slip hazard because it is covered in moss and mold, BUT the WORST PART OF ROOM 516 is that there is was not only LARGE GREEN PATCHES OF MOSS GROWING ON THE CARPET BEHIND THE CURTAINS OF THE BALCONY DOOR INSIDE OF THE “living room), BUT THERE WAS ACTUAL BLACK MOLD GROWING AND SPREADING ALL OVER THE THE CARPET IN THE LIVING ROOM NEAR THE BALCONY DOOR, AGAIN, ON THE INSIDE OF THE ROOM. Not only is this mortifyingly disturbing and disgusting, but it’s also an actual health hazard that could potentially get guests very very sick and or kill someone.

Lucky for the hotel, if I wasn’t spending the night for a wedding, I would have checked out and slept somewhere else but all of the other hotels were booked up because it was so last minute. I contemplated sleeping in my car instead as I do not want to get sick or die because of sanitation / health risk issues with this hotel.

I would never EVER recommend staying here unless you don’t mind getting sick from mold and other things.

I am here for management/owners to reach out to make this better. Clean the place before the board of health gets sent there from someone dying.

LASTLY, Not only did we have major issues with our room but everyone else in the wedding party had major issues. (i.e. pull out sofa with broken sign on it and more mold, etc.)

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! THE PICTURES ON GOOGLE MAPS ARE EVERY DECEIVING SO DONT FALL FOR THIS TRAP.

I will happily remove this review if they make their wrongs right with me because I am beyond upset and traumatized from...

I want to defend this hotel so badly but unfortunately I can't. I'm so incredibly disappointed by my stay here, this property has so much potential and it seems like management just does the absolute bare minimum. I'm not sure where to even begin on this place. My advice to those just scrolling and don't have time to read my whole story is ABSOLUTELY DO NOT STAY OR ATTEMPT TO BOOK A WEDDING BLOCK OR EVENT HERE.

We entered a room-block contract here in summer 2020 for our wedding that was taking place in October 2021. I had come here about 5 years ago for a conference and thought it was a good option with a nice pool and view of the lake, but admit I should've read the more recent reviews first. We had a specific number of rooms requested over a 4-day period, paid a deposit that also covered booking the outside bonfire area and attached conference room for the night before to have a welcome party for our guests.

Upon visiting the location in July 2021 (we hadn't sooner due to the pandemic), we discovered they blatantly didn't honor our room requests and booked over them and couldn't provide the agreed number of our contractually obligated rooms. They also refused to honor the booking of the event space. Despite having a signed contract with a down payment, my family having a shouting match with the front desk (in front of a high profile/celebrity client of theirs no less), they still offered ZERO apology or resolution.

As this all transpired 100 days before our wedding, our options were severely limited to make other arrangements and we had tried to plan accordingly due to Sturbridge being busy in the early fall by booking over a year in advance. We started to call around (which all the other hotels in town weren't shocked the Host screwed us over) and finally found a place with availability. While we were lucky, it was in another town which made our wedding weekend a logistical nightmare we had hoped to avoid as we got married down the street from here. In addition to the added stress of them completely dropping the ball, we ended up having to add costs with the need for a bus for our party and guests along with the increase in price of a different hotel block since we were "last minute" booking.

While looking for other arrangements, we kept trying to reach out and multiple attempts to contact them were unsuccessful. The sales manager wanted everything in email so he had a paper trail, but still refused to call us to work out anything. Finally, 2 months later, the director of sales, refunded our deposit when we said we requested the contract be voided and said we will take further action.

I'm 100% certain that since we were getting married on a holiday weekend, they intentionally booked over us cause they knew the demand would increase with the pandemic settling and it being a busy area this time of year. Hence the blatant disregard hoping to get rid of us. As I alluded to earlier, the other places in town weren't surprised and all of them were so great at helping us find a resolution. Even our venue felt bad for not warning us of...
