I was nervous about staying at this place after reading reviews, but it was the only place that wasn't fully booked. When we got to the room it was over 90° inside. No joke. It took more than four hours to get down to 83 degrees. This is after getting there at 11 p.m. and just wanting to go to sleep but it was way too hot. There was a Kleenex between the sheets; at least it didn't look used. I don't think the door handles had ever been cleaned within the room. I wanted to bring up the temperature issue with the owner the next day and he happened to be at the desk. He basically told me that it's completely normal on a hot day for the rooms to be hot... Apparently it never crossed his mind that a room needs to be suitable to stay in by the time a guest arrives. This blew my mind. I wasn't going to leave a rating at all, it wasn't going to be a good one either way, but the fact that the owner thinks this is acceptable is outrageous. For breakfast I had a bagel even though eggs, meat and waffle bar were provided. I didn't feel good about trying to meat or eggs so I can't say if they were good or not. To some people's standards I'm sure this room would have been just fine, it wasn't a total dump afterall, but I personally won't be staying here again as it did not meet my personal standards of cleanliness or customer service. I know it is likely that the owner will read this, so please (PLEASE) know that it is unacceptable for a room to be over 90° when a guest arrives. I did not appreciate your excuses for the room being hot due to the weather outside. Overall the staff was friendly along with the housekeepers, but it is very concerning when a hotel is under ownership that does not acknowledge suitable conditions for their guests.

With 42 rooms, The Bay Inn is the second largest hotel in the Tawas / East Tawas area, and in my opinion the best hotel experience for the money! We have stayed at the Bay Inn hotel since before it was the Bay Inn, and was a Days Inn hotel. Though in previous years, it had what I would call a rough patch, the current ownership has really done a terrific job, updating and refreshing the hotel. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, nicely decorated, and comfortable. One of the best features of the hotel is the breakfast area containing plenty of seating and plenty of breakfast items, including hot items in the morning. The good sized pool and hot tub are another strong suit for this hotel. The entire pool area is always well-maintained and clean. The only drawback is that it is located at the south end of Tawas, which, if you are doing most of your activities in East Tawas is a bit of a drive due to the very low posted speed limit.

3/5 - An Okay Stay. The location was fine, however big bushy trees outside my window blocked the view of the water. The window was heavy and very difficult to open/shut. The room was pleasant, well decorated and appeared clean, with exception of the bathroom walls. They had obviously not been wiped in a while. The beds were fine, but the pillows were so thin and beat up, it was very uncomfortable. The room had no clock which felt inconvenient and the toilet paper was the cheapest kind.

When checking in the first thing that the clerk mentioned is that the inn was short on housekeeping staff. (There was also a sign saying "help wanted housekeepers") We were asked if we wanted a room on the first or second floor. There was no elevator in the building so me and my (90 year old) mother decided to take the first floor room. The carts that were available to load our luggage and belongings were dirty. Once we entered the room there was a musty smell to it. There was no soap in the shower or the sink outside the bathroom. (we bought some air fresher and bars of soap at Walmart)The only clock in the room was on the microwave. The pool had a jacuzzi that looked lie it had never been cleaned. Although the room was cleaned everything was very old looking. I asked another clerk much later in the day if reservations were needed in order to dine at the Tawas Bay Beach Resort. His reply was ...."how would I know, we aren't part of them. " Definitely not the way to promote tourism in that town. The continental breakfast was disgusting so we ate breakfast elsewhere. The second night of our stay there was someone on the second floor that had a very heavy walk that was extremely loud. As long as we didn't spend any time in the room the rest of the trip was very enjoyable. The place is very run down and it looks like most of the windows need replacing. Go somewhere else if you...
